Since that’s never been published, it’s hard to guestimate (beyond the concurrent player count).
It’s publicly available. Anyone can look it up and go daaaium!
Dazzle me then - how many players does EVE have?
It’s one of the most long running and successful MMOs of all time and has world records for most players in single battles… yeah there’s really no excuse at this point.
Probably 2 or 3.
By the way Josh Strife Hayes just made an “ultimate MMO tier list backed by science” with hundreds of games listed based off of Internet opinions (highly subjective and often wrong about what an MMO is). Yet it was a good video and Eve online, of course, was in the top 10. We all know it should be #1 but I can settle for top ten all time.
Yes, it is a good game. Too bad it’s being mismanaged for maximum profit.
Hi, @ARES_DES1DERATA I haven’t played EVE for a long time at all but I think that Sins of a Solar Empire II is worth playing as it gives a strong EVE vibe and the visuals are very nice.
It isn’t a multiplayer PvP game I’m afraid but I thought I present it to you anyway if you like space games.
Take care!
the sucessor of eve would be elite dangerous, no where near the quality of eve, but has better quality of life than eve that attracts the consoletards i mean players
Devs like to eat
I like to eat also.
I also like to earn my worth. I get regular raises, not because of time spent at my co, but more my value as an employee. And maybe your right, that might not be a value these days.
My Dad taught me that whatever you do in life, be the best that you can at it. “Even if you’re just a ditch digger, best the best ditch digger you can.”
Fortunately, I did a little better than that.
A working EVE 2.0 would brake bank in the game world. Problem is no one can figure how to balance it. Same problem we have today, never mind tomorrow…
Stick a résumé in then and we’ll find out if your ideas and alleged Japanese work ethic are up to the task.
Okay. So. I’m gonna post this here just in case there is someone else out there like me who is looking for that Eve-like game but can never find it.
The reality is, there is nothing like Eve. There isn’t a single game out there. Elite Dangerous, I’m sorry. It’s not really close. You literally have to spin around in circles in that game in order to shoot at people. It’s an FPS. Before anyone cries, Elite is a great game and definitely something I’ll be playing when I get my new PC. My current one can’t handle any decent online games right now.
So I’ve been playing on Xbox. It’s been a while since I seriously sat down with a console and gamed hardcore. But doing this has taught me a few things and it also finally got me to stop obsessing over Eve (at least not as much).
Limitation breeds creativity. I didn’t have the money to realistically buy or build a decent PC at the time. It was quick and easy to buy a 300$ Series X, boot up my old microsoft account and buy Game Pass.
Basically, the moral of the story is that we must accept that there is absolutely nothing like Eve out there, there are a few games that are “similar” in some respects. I do believe there will be a game like Eve some day in the future (when some genius company realizes the potential of this game).
And there are games out there that offer much of the same (or similar) strategic depth that Eve offers, but with lesser player counts, or just not in a science fiction setting. You must be willing to compromise in this regard.
So I had to narrow down my options of what to play. First of all, the game had to be online, or at least have an online option. It had to have as many other players in the game as well, preferably in the same server, or else it had to have huge battles and strategy.
I’ve never been into strategy games, but when you stop and think about it, Eve does share some similarities with those games.
But I started with the MMOs. To play online on Xbox you need the Game Pass subscription. Which is definitely lame, but it also means you can play a ■■■■ ton of games without buying them.
This list is for Xbox. On PC there will be more options.
MMOs: Elder Scrolls Online, TERA, Throne and Liberty - huge game worlds, lots of depth, the ability to PvP
Survival games: ARK, Conan Exiles, DAYZ, Rust - huge game worlds, lots of depth, the ability to PvP
Arena games: Smite, etc. I decided I wanted to master a different kind of game, the MOBA. I started with League of Legends, but when I realized my PC was too garbage to handle any other games, I switched back to my Xbox and decided to stick with Smite for now. Really fun game, easy to jump into, hard to master.
Multiplayer shooters: games like Halo MCC, Fortnite, Hell Let Loose, etc. These are good games to just jump into, they’re pretty fun, I don’t take them too seriously but they help to keep you sharp and hone your reflexes.
There is also a good war simulation game called War Thunder that I’ve been getting into, it’s pretty cool. Lots of tanks and aircraft to play.
And now we have the games that actually finally gave me those Eve vibes - the strategy games. There are a bunch of them on Game Pass, but only one that actually made me feel like I was playing Eve for the first time - it’s called Stellaris.
Stellaris is basically like Eve, except instead of just controlling one ship at a time, you control and build many ships at once and basically control the entire map as you slowly develop your civilization toward galactic domination - it’s kind of like a miniature Eve simulation where you control the entire game world, and yes it does have multiplayer.
Learning this game, for someone who has never been into strategy games, is pretty daunting. So in order to learn the basics of strategy games, I started with, well, the basics - Halo Wars 2. Learned it. Beat the campaign. Then I moved onto Age of Mythology. Beat it, learned the ropes. Then moved onto Dune Spice Wars - another awesome game where you battle for control of the planet Arrakis. This game also has multiplayer. Beat the absolute crap out of this awesome game.
I am now currently enjoying my journey in Stellaris while I wait to get a new PC - I’m hoping to have one by spring/summer so I can hop back into Eve and take over the game.
Stellaris is a completely one of a kind game. It has multiplayer but only for a few players at a time, to battle for galactic supremacy - but the depth of this game is amazing, it’s a love letter to the science fiction genre. Your populations might revolt against you, other factions might declare war on you, there are different species and all types of different playstyles, diplomatic, militaristic, etc.
Highly recommend all of these games, but especially Stellaris - and I can’t wait to come back to Eve with everything I’ve learned from these games. I’ll be seeing you all soon enough. 07
Star Citizen - is still in an alfa state, full of bugs but but it outclasses the current EvE by several levels. The number of players as well. And then there are the emotions…
The Problem with StarCitizen is, that it takes place in the year 2945 (SQ42) / 2955 and we don’t know if game will be released until then. Maybe it comes out some time around the year 3000 and will then be a history simulator…
Netflix ! I mean…it would appear half the people who ‘play EVE’ are actually watching Netflix.
You could try, Real Life MMO.
Imo, it trumps all MMOs.
It’s quite neat:
You’re in space in a walking spaceship, living on a giant sandbox greenhouse spaceship floating in solar system.
You get to merge and industrialize on an intimate level with other walking spaceships in order to make other little walking spaceships.
You can join a corporation, make currency to sustain your needs and upgrade your life in the community of walking spaceships.
You have an almost infinite amount of exploration sites available to you.
You can engage with anyone or anything in the world in however you see fit, and will always get a reaction (good or bad, depending on your choices of interaction obv).
You can even choose to go full-on mindfck and join a simulated spaceship environment inside your own spaceship environment, via a little square box/window with lights and cables, or via boosters/substances found and provided by your sandbox environment.
And if all that is not enough, you can even create such worlds within world, by yourself if you want, via a special cerebral conduit called : Imagination.
I def think you will meet your match with that one, have fun !
PS: The best part of it, practically no one knows if the MMO continues after losing your walking spaceship in this sandbox, but practically everyone is pretty much certain it does, because everyone keeps walking regardless.
Well, if you want to play Eve Offline I’d recommend X4 Foundations. It’s pretty much Eve without MMO.
That one can get 90,000 people into Wembley Stadium without any tidi is clearly a highly advanced simulation.
+1 for Real Life Eve
-1 for claims that Star Citizen outclasses Eve in any way, shape or form.
