A Spiritual Successor to Eve Online

The X4 star wars mod especially

Ikr ? The servers must literally be out of this world.

StarCitizen outclasses EvE in every way, especially regarding the number of active players, the storyline, and the possibilities. Most importantly, the community is not as toxic as it is here. There, in combat, your skills matter. In EvE, the random number generator matters. Tested on two identical ships, identically manned.

Interesting, but 5M players have a different opinion.

I really wish there was a laugh react so I could laugh at this post. But since there isnā€™t one Iā€™ll just laugh here instead -

First of all, I actually am a Star Citizen enthusiast, within reason. I havenā€™t given them any money yet, but Iā€™ve been watching development since the beginning.

If weā€™re going by player count, then I guess Fortnite is the best game of all time? GTFO of my face with that kind of logic. Eve has been a fully realized game for multiple decades and is always within the top 10 of greatest MMO lists. Star Citizen will be in development for decades soon  EDIT - Itā€™s already been in development over a decade - since 2012

Star Citizen combat can never compare to Eve combat. SC is basically a first person shooter. You spin around in circles trying to shoot at people. Who gives a *** about that? You can get the same combat in War Thunder or Star Wars Squadrons   :kissing_smiling_eyes:

Let me clarify - I think Star Citizen is awesome. But we havenā€™t even mentioned the monetization of that game, or the thousands of dollars theyā€™re selling ships for. A lot of people complain about that. I have no problem with devs making money, but ā€œoverpricedā€ is an understatement when it comes to Star Citizen.

The game has potential, but it will never compare to Eve. Itā€™s an FPS, whereas Eve is 3D chess.

SC is a shooterā€¦ if you could punch someone in the face with laughter I would gladly do it.
It follows that you have never played but you are an expert because you observe themā€¦ logic worthy of a patient in a mental hospital.
It may be in development but it has attracted more players than pseudo mature EvE. There your skills mean something, in EvE nothing. And then there is this toxic company with intelligence limited to EvE.
PATHETIC.

Lol. I will be playing Star Citizen when I get my new PC. I just think comparing it to Eve is a lost cause. Nothing compares to Eve, especially not a first person game. Maybe youā€™re right, but Iā€™ll never agree with you until I see PvP videos, killboards, epic battles, politics and warfare that actually rivals Eve - when that happens, then you can talk.

Elite Dangerous VS No Manā€™s Sky VS Star Citizenā€¦ it really is an unsolved mystery. There are good and bad aspects to all of them. Decisions, decisionsā€¦ should we just play all of them, or can there be only one? Maybe none of them are good enough. Maybe Eve will always be the King of spaceship pewpew.

Personally I am enjoying every minute I spend in Stellaris right now. Never played another game with such depth and imaginationā€¦ aside from Eve of course.

There is nothing like, nor will the ever be, EVE Online!

Of all the games Iā€™ve played Albion online comes closest.

Aside from the obvious difference of a top-down medieval fantasy game versus a spaceship game the game is so much inspired by EVE that itā€™s almost a copy of EVE and very much a spiritual successor. As someone who doesnā€™t mind the beautiful spaceships and space sights but was drawn to EVE for the persistent multiplayer economy in a single shard full loot PvP world, I really enjoyed Albion as well.

Itā€™s a shame Albion stopped being a persistent single shard game though when they introduced the new servers and forced players to choose between content during our timezone on the new server (or rather, a lack thereof on the old server) versus keeping our hard-earned (and grinded) progression we had on the old server. Itā€™s something EVE does a lot better as I love the single persistent world here with the shared stories, and itā€™s what made me quit Albion and go back to EVE.

Having a few servers for different timezones isnā€™t a huge deal. Doesnā€™t Eve also have a couple of other servers for China and co. ?

Wouldnā€™t a server with less players actually be a good thing in Albion? That game is completely overrun with blobs, much more difficult to survive as a solo roamer than in Eve.

Also, +1 for Albion. Amazing unique game. I was actually a founder back in the day, and been playing it off and on ever since.

Unfortunately it is very simplified and fast paced compared to Eve. Yes itā€™s an Eve clone, but condensed down to the level of a MOBA like League of Legends or Smite. Still a great game.

So, decide: do you pay for SC or not? Because my impression is you lie.
EvE is great, you say.
Why has the number of players remained the same for a decade? Did you even try to read opinions on other portals?
Total disgrace.

Is a stable player base in a decades old game a bad sign now?

Yes. Just like a stable paycheque over a decade is bad.

When something stays the same in a world that increasing makes it irrelevant, itā€™s not good for that thing.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

More like a stable job rather than a stable paycheque.

The paycheque of EVE has increased in that time, or did you miss the commotion when CCP changed the monthly cost of the game?

Youā€™re wrong, but Iā€™m not going to get pulled into a pointless argument with you. You are second only to @Gloria_Exercitus in the dishonesty of how you debate.

Spew your willful ignorance at Open AI or DeepSeek. Theyā€™ll be more than patient with you.

Mr Epeen :sunglasses:

Iā€™m glad not to get pulled into another debate with you, theyā€™re not enjoyable at all. Have a nice day!

I for one would love to pull Mr Epeenā€™s Epeen

Lolā€¦ I said that I will be playing Star Citizen in the future. I never once claimed that Iā€™ve played it yet. Where is the lie or inconsistency there? Maybe you should brush up on your English some more :kissing_smiling_eyes:

Iā€™ve been a supporter of Eve, off and on, since roughly 2007/2008. Iā€™ve always championed this game regardless of what anyone else ever thought or said about it. I havenā€™t sunk money into the game in years but I will do soon because I still love the game.

Maybe the game has seen better days. Maybe itā€™s getting old. Maybe itā€™s slowly dying. But I personally DONā€™T CARE because this is EVE ON freaking LINE. There is no other game like this, and God only knows when there will be another like it. Eve has stood the test of time like very few other online games have. Itā€™s been displayed in the museum of modern art. It deserves every award and praise that itā€™s gotten over the years. If itā€™s gonna die, then Iā€™d like it to go out in a blaze of glory. Just one more reason for me to come back and break the entire game :sunglasses:
