They are thinking of selling training accelerators in the store, so it’ll be like selling SP. It is just mindset changing. Game world is turning from subscription based game into F2P. It’ll be hard to convince that it is not P2W. All that bull**** that SP don’t matter when you need higher level of skills to fly some hulls of use T2 modules…
So do you really think they’re seriously considering removing the ability of characters to skill train (skill queues) in favor of injected / store bought skills (only) as an option?
Well if all you need is one logged in account at a time limited to 20mil SP and which stops training at 5mil SP then alpha is certainly for you. Not sure why you think it will be easier to make ISK that way, but that probably depends what you are doing right now.
If he’s subbing with ISK bought PLEX then that’s more than 1.5 billion a month “profit” in real terms simply from not subbing / staying alpha right there?
You can sp farm tho, so in reality it’s much less
True. Still some though, but I can’t be bothered to do the math
I don’t know. 20 mil SP is one year on regular subscription. It’s a new model and I think they want to try how it goes. EvE subscription is one of the expensive one on the market. Maybe they’ll decided both.
WOW; Did you even read what I wrote?
I’m still not sure on something - Alpha clones can now train 20 mil SP, yet you keep saying they will stop training at 5 mil SP - Is it me or you not understanding what a skill training limit of 20 mil SP actually means?
I’m pretty sure Alphas having the ability to train 20 mil SP means, they will train past 5 mil.
And yes, as I stated (a few times) one account will be enough - There really will be no need for multiple accounts logged in at once - I may even keep a few of my old gank accounts now they have better skills as Alphas. But I certainly won’t need the army of cynos and other alts I have now.
Why would I need to “make isk” - I have 19 characters, most with well over 100 mil SP. Extract all bar one that is roughly 1.8 bil SP + 165 mil from the one I’d keep to play (extract it to the new 20mil Alpha limit) to sell.
Alphas will stop free training at 5 mil SP. After 5 mil SP you will have to be Omega or inject SP, after that trained skills in alpha set, will stay till 20 mil for F2P Alpha.
Ok, seams I did misunderstand you, so looks the change will benefit you greatly.
It is indeed the case that once an alpha reaches 5mil SP the traing will stop. You can then either train with an omega subscription or by using skill injectors. Rise said that right at the end of his talk.
The reason for this is pretty obvious, if alphas could train past 5mil SP this would result in massive SP farms where you could basically produce as many SP as you want for 0$.
The first year of skills imo are the most important portion of the skill set and like the notorious learning skills the “first” thing you must train in order to do anything in Eves world.
Allowing players to pay as they want is a really good move by CCP to draw alphas in and giving older players enough skills they can be useful in any area in Eve thereby making Eve more vibrant as fewer older players will quit for breaks because they cant or dont want to pay for the game.
Of course there are corps using alphas to gank. Never heard of Suddenly Seamen?

Here’s a piece of INN news.
You guys also have to factor in how fast tech 2 eats up skill points.
Tech 2 small blasters, rails, ACS, artillery, pulse, beams, rockets, light missiles, rapid light missiles and then the t2 medium versions of all those guns.
That’s 10m+ easy of the 20m max.
I understand the “not training past 5M SP part” but being able to inject 15M more. But what about a 26M Omega turning Alpha after a sub expires? Will he have 5M or 20M? And how will it be decided which 6M he loses?
Does anyone reckon it’ll be exactly the same, with every Alpha assuming any ship they can access for free is bad purely because they have access to it?
the alpha changes won’t make much difference . BC/BS aren’t the preferred ships for ganking , and alphas aren’t the preferred characters . players gank , not characters . and people that pay for multiple accounts with plex , won’t give up their scouts / eyes on undock / ability to rotate characters waiting out timers .
You will have all the skills in the Alpha set, meaning every skill which you could train as an alpha. The skills or skill levels which are omega only will still be inaccessible if you go alpha again.
You could be right. CCP’s management has a long inglorious track record. It has taken some time, but the hiring on an EA person to the C-level is really starting to show in CCP’s decisions.
It is a sad thing that Eve was corrupted so long ago by CCP’s allegiances to the null sec cartels at the expense of every other gameplay style. Every decision’s impact on current affairs takes time to filter through. But over time, bit by bit, choice by choice, CCP has driven away paying customers. Now, they are driven to desperate measures like moving to the PTW model.
The tinfoil and tears in this thread are great. I like this thread.
@Ima_Wreckyou We don’t multibox, and you know us. Though I guess a fleet of 1 ganker and some eyes really isn’t a "fleet ".
Anyhow, the alpha change doesn’t even do anything for our ganking activities, we prefer the solo style with spotters. But, I guess in the event we were to move away from that it could help our operations; I don’t see that happening.
