You guys are off-topic…

No. I was correcting you on your view of what EVE is. You then got dodgy and still are trying to evade it. Maybe you only don’t like what EVE is. You tell me.

We know that. It was @Zachri who brought in his definition of what a PvP game is and we are now discussing why this is, more precisely, why he thinks EVE isn’t a PvP game when it may well be one of the best PvP games in existence.

Absolutely, but there isn’t much to be done about that. When you show him a bone, he just keeps chasing it. Even if it isn’t a bone.

Hang on.
If “isolationist” is a player type then they are very much into interaction; to wit actively avoiding it can take a lot of effort, simply because you need to put a lot of energy into evading everyone else.
So really, its no fun evading contact if there was no one to evade.

I like the concept of mining minigame. CCP doesnt seem to care tho. Maybe they think that mining with Rorquals would have to be affected and will cause outrage in goon empire.

Don’t forget a mini game for ratting too, otherwise ratting will continue to be botted. Want to buy or sell on the market? You must complete a mini game first, because market bots are a thing. We should just add minigames for everything!

No i’m totally not serious!

The J0seph G0ebbels of Goons crying about botting…

That’s cute.

That’s like a pastry chef fighting against diabetes.

Everything you do will require one of these:

What makes EvE successful is the fact of the wide variety of activitys and behaviors that are possible.

Unlike reality you wish to start “modifying” peoples behaviors because you don’t like them. Not necessarily because they are doing something wrong but because you disagree with them. This is the path to EvE failure, limiting activitys or behaviors because of a personal taste is ultimately a horrible idea unless the behavior is illegal.

At the end of the day I don’t like what a great many people do in EvE, but I wouldn’t try to change it unless its damaging EvE overall. Saying anything mining in hisec is damaging EvE is a lie, and you know you are lying when you are saying it because of Rorquals. Using your own “opinion” like the worthless CSM to ■■■■ on peoples activitys that are meaningless in the big picture is the road to failure.

So, how is that different from real life? There’s good reasons why some third parties use EVE as a petri dish :stuck_out_tongue:

Easiest way to at least slow down botting is to give all npcs at sites scrams and webs.

I don’t want to change anyone’s behaviour. Don’t visit my intentions, actually read what I’m saying rather than making stuff up. If you make stuff up, you end up arguing against nothing that’s been said.

Players modify their own behaviours based on their interactions in the game. This is called ‘adapting’. If you don’t adapt, you lose. But my intention is not to modify anyone else’s behaviour, it’s to play the game.

  • community encounters repeated botting problems
  • issue identified as mining being easy to bot
  • proposes a system/mechanic, that would make it extremely difficult to bot*
  • gets backlash from community because that system would “for some reason ™” be bad
  • community goes back to bitc-…complaining about the issue

…why I even bother…

*If anyone could please show me a bot that can effectively handle the randomized grids generated by exploration mechanics, I’d be very grateful and nominate said bot creator for a nobel prize in pre-sentient AI research…

There are exploration bots already GG

Welcome to why the war against bots is hard.
Because you can’t sacrifice all the regular legit players for the sake of it.

That is where you are wrong. There are many other kinds of bots and you did not address them.

This problem is more complicated than a simple game change. The problem is CCP not investing enough resources to tackle the problem because they think it isn’t a big enough issue to varant a dedicated team to actually tackle it correctly.

Nice work blowing them up, btw.

Wasn’t me, all @Lawrence_Lawton’s work.

Unfortunately I only have two ganker alts. May have to scale up a bit.

Well the only types of bots that are prevalent in the game are:
Mining bots
Ratting bots
Market bots
And if some industrialist can’t be arsed to perform those 3 clicks for setting up jobs, then indy bots.

(If I forgot any, please feel free to correct me).

All activities require very little from the player in regards of complexity. All activities require just a few clicks.
Mining:
ctrl + click the rock, F1
Ratting:
ctrl + click the rats, F1, watch local
Market:
check prices, open order, update order, wait for another price update
Indy:
If = { jobs < max_jobs }
jobs ++
endIf

Make these actions more complex, more demanding in terms of player action (and potentialy more fun, because seriously, if you enjoy watching rats explode for hours, you should sign up for staring contests), and suddenly it’s not so easy to bot them.

Adn for the obvious trolls here, I am not proposing ratting to be replaced with a minigame. CCP have already stated that they plan to eventually roll out the current Trglavian AI and mechanics to all rats, mission NPCs and such, which might actually be what is needed to reduce the amount of ratting bots, given the carnage they cause on HACs and Gilas.
