Their complaint shouldn’t be 'eves core principles are lost’ unless they, like you say, complained at all the other compromises.
But they didn’t. Some of them in fact celebrated it.
That’s why it’s phoney. They don’t give a damn about ‘core principles’. They might have their reasons for disliking it. But I assure you, the disregard of core principles is not it.
Dude, it’s not the trivial market impact of this one ship on this one sale that people are freaking out about.
It’s what this sale means for everyone who builds anything.
What if next month it’s hulks? Or HACs, alongside a doubling of their inputs?
What if they decide to keep scarce-sperity in place and straight up sell capitals for dollars instead of fixing their fuckups and making them profitable to build again?
Whether someone did or didn’t complain in the past doesn’t have any impact on the validity of the claim that this violates EVE’s core principles, though. Just because someone isn’t arguing consistently or in good faith doesn’t necessarily mean that their argument is wrong.
How many times have I seen you chastise people for saying EVE has a win state? You know P2W doesn’t apply in this game. I could dredge up an easy 25 posts of you saying it.
Don’t keep changing sides to suit whatever argument you are making at the moment. Just pick one and stick to it.
I disagree with this contention. And if you think that my support for the war dec changes after I was shown evidence that they were having a significant negative impact on player retention was me somehow selling out “the core game” then you don’t get the fundamental point that if we don’t have a game at all, the core game fundamentals don’t matter anymore.
Sometimes you have to do something you otherwise wouldn’t be inclined to do because the alternative is worse. That’s what we did with the war dec proposal. And, that being said, you’re generally not going to see me supporting nerfs to ganking, otherwise creating more safe space in the game, or advocating for anything that removes PvP or otherwise makes the game more risk averse.
And the whole idea that we can’t complain about this because we didn’t complain about other things (the T20 scandal was way before my time as a daily player or as a CSM member - I didn’t know about it until years after it happened, for instance) is absurd. For the most part, the people who signed this letter were the same ones complaining about all of that stuff, when it happened.
And here I thought the idea with this package was to give some content to suicide gankers. New players to extort with a permit after the easy kill. “Here, see how your real life money is destroyed in 10 seconds by people who wants to drink your tears.”
we spent 2 years dealing with scarcity because too much mining and now ccp shits the market with out-of-market t2 mining ships your argument is t2 bpo… your are special…
Exactly. That’s why this pack is good for everyone. New players can experiment for $10 or $20 - way less than when he decides to go Omega - older characters can always use the pack if they want to and CCP get to pay their employees for another month.
The alternative is the servers shutting down, no one wants that.
The frustrating thing for me is that while this is a (tiny) issue, protests like these take away from when we actually do have a “crossing the red-line” issue such as the selling of gold ammo (as an easy example). If CCP offers +10% damage for gold ammo next July and the community rightfully freaks-out, are you going to write yet another open-letter? Wont that make this letter seem a wee bit petty and misplaced?
Open letters are big guns and they need to be used wisely…was this really that big of an issue all things considered?
They already did that via some sort of neural booster. Yet again… that line has been crossed years ago. I might be wrong it might not have just been $ bought but I do mind that.
I agree but my point is more that is it would not be a short-term offer by CCP but rather something always on offer for $$$. A regular type purchase rather than an event. Think Gold ammo in WOT or one of those P2W type games.
