Bumping needs a suspect status penalty

Give it the same timer as bastion mode?

Before you propose making bumping suspect, you need to define a clearly laid out way to differentiate between people who are actively trying to bump into someone in order to interfere with what they’re doing and people who bump into another player just as a result of navigation.

This is considerably harder than you’d think, and nobody has come up with a clear cut answer.

Care to try?

perhaps it would only become valid if someone has clicked the “approach” button with your character selected, i mean sure in WH’s and NS we bump our buddies for fun, but high sec is another thing.
if you click on someone and click approach perhaps a warning saying “caution if you bump this player you will recieve a suspect timer” this way people bouncing off each other on undock are left alone, it would have to be a back ground mechanic used to check to see if the user is specifically approaching the person or not, this way if its not your intention to bump them you can use either orbit or keep at range options.

if you’re in the same fleet / corp / alliance you are exempt from this suspect timer, this way any outside entities would be considered hostile towards you and bumping you considered a hostile action.

so you sit there and some random turns up and intentionally bumps you, you now have a means to deal with it, however this could equally be a trap, but someone in fleet, corp, or alliance turns up and gives you a good old buddy bump, no timer.

typed this out quickly as on my way out the door.

might mean some coding on CCP’s part just adding certain factors to aggression / suspect timer or whatever its called

can’t finish this in any good fashion, meant to be out the door already.

fly safe guys o/

I can intentionally bump people without using the ‘approach’ button. Next suggestion?

Not really sure because the exhumers are so much weaker. I’d say the devs would need to do some research to figure that out. Ideally the exhumer would have some chance of survival but only for players that are on the ball and have some level of tank fitted.

Fixing the bump ship is a fools errand and we know it.

Giving the mining ships a way to stay on asteroid is the easy fix.

you’re missing the point, approaching someone and bumping them would then count as an aggressive action, if you want to waste your energy and game time bumping people without using it, go ahead. at least now there is a sepration.

I don’t think he is. You specifically spoke about using the approach button to be the signal to consider the bump an aggressive action. @Gerard_Amatin is simply pointing out that you don’t have to use the approach button to bump someone, which due to your proposal would not be an aggressive action.

it would at least narrow it down a bit more, if you have the skills to bump that way then bump away, nothing saying the other player can’t go somewhere else, the reason why i suggested it this way would be to prevent excessive spamming of undocks for jita for example of people who just happen to bump, or people who intentionally stop their ship to cause others to bump.

at least if you’re pointing and clicking and trying to move your ship manually you’re actually being more immersed into the game.

it may not be 100% perfect but it makes it so people who bump who are not alliance, fleet or corp need to put more effort into it to achieve the same results, it also prevents people griefing and farming people on undocks or at gates and such things.

if you had it that “any” bump would cause suspect timer we have the jita undock bump farm problem, everyone would just be suspect and blapped to death.

besides bumping isn’t all that bad, like i said we’ve all been bumped by people, friendly, a jolly good old friendly nudge, hell even i’ve been catapulted out of an asteroid belt, at the time, sure its annoying but looking back, its just good fun and part of the game.

bumping people in belts as far as i am aware you just click the dude hit approach and turn on your prop mod.

so if you really wanted to make it so something happened from this behaviour, just make it harder to bump, bump without using approach.

in my suggestion, bumping can be done amongst friends and still used for things like titans and such things without effecting docking rights or jump timers.

it would be someone who was clearly not allied with you in some way would then recieve the bonus and prevents suspect spam in jita.

it doesn’t end bumping but at the same time, we don’t need bumping to end, i can see why it upsets people so my suggestion would be to curve it just a little bit.

This is why we are having this conversation now. There was a massive discussion, several full threads over the years. It was clear what was the problem, but instead the devs decided to “do something” instead of really understanding the problem. That something solved exactly nothing, but they did close the threads, pat themselves on the back and walk away.

So what did they do? When it was clear the real problem was not warping, but staying still; they went ahead and added the 3 min warp timer to fix freighter bumping which was never really a “real” problem, it was one of player laziness.

Meanwhile new players, miners, are getting knocked off asteroids like pool balls.

All they ever needed to do is allow exhumers (and mining barges) to anchor in place, instead they caved to whinners and did a half assed fix for nothing.

I gotta say, i actually really love this response, when you say anchor in place do you mean, literally like a structure or something being anchored and completely static?

because if that was what you meant, although i fully admit its a brilliant idea, I can see how in terms of the game lore it wouldn’t truthfully line up with the universe of eve and how it works.

my further suggestion to this would be there could be some change to how mining lasers work, or perhaps a new type of laser (que my go to for trig technology here)
something like while active they add a copious amount of mass due to the fact they’re using (insert lore here, assuming some kind of gravity tractor beam) and thus cannot be bumped

drawing all that ore in would need a lot of power after all. exhumers having an “update” to have a new “mining core” feature which keeps you anchored while lasers are firing would be pretty good.

should they ever put eve valkyrie connected to the main universe this would be very much like shooting at the cores the carriers in those games have.

It would ‘narrow it down’ like putting a band-aid next to a wound.

Probably less than you think.

Bumping a target is often done with manual piloting (the one and only use for first person view) because using ‘approach’ will miss a moving target. It really is nothing to the bumper to manually pilot.

Quoting for emphasis.

Unless you manage to get yourself aligned very well with your target’s velocity vector (or your target is stationary), using “Approach” to bump will be a glancing blow or an outright miss depending on how fast they’re moving. Plus, after the bump your ship will try to automatically adjust course to point back at the target which will probably slow you down for getting into position for the next bump.

Good bumpers manually pilot to where they think the target will be, not where the target is right now.

Anchoring to a physical object, like an asteroid is more plausible that just “anchoring” in open space yes?

true, but when you say anchoring my natural thought is something like structures or MTU’s, if i’m orbiting something or keeping it at range thats not what i call “anchored”

Maybe an alternate tractor beam application that pulls the ship toward the fixed object at the TB’s speed? Makes for some potential fun games zooming through space by ‘grabbing’ onto anchored objects to fling yourself around

This must be a bad train of thought because I’m starting to like it!

Anchoring the ship to the roid seems to make more sense as you have an actual object to grab. Maybe something the Tractor Beam II can do. Just spit balling with the concept…

The implication is that the ship is not moving, it is anchored to the asteroid and cannot move. Which is balanced in that it is both a blessing and a curse. The ship can’t be bumped, but it also cannot escape a gank very quickly.

What happens when you bump a marauder while it’s in bastion? Cant test it myself.
