Happened to find a stray Captains Quarters screenshot that I somehow forgot to include in my Captains Quarters Screenshot Storybooks.

Also found a couple of conceptual Art renderings done by CCP for WiS:

This room interior looks like a Command Center on a Caldari Station:

And here’s one of the bridge leading into the CQ:

Found another one of CCP’s Concept Art rendering for Captains Quarters, this one is Gallente Hallway to Docking Bay:

Damn! I’m such a newbie. I only started playing after the captain’s quarters feature was removed. Such an injustice. I really hope they bring in back. Why did they remove it? Some performance issues?

CCP implemented it without actually including any gameplay content to go with it. They said it would be added later but due to technical issues, CCP couldn’t get it to run multiple characters without crashing and due to them taking so long to develop the initial Captains Quarters, a lot of vocal resistance from a small minority made CCP backpedal and focus their attention on other game play content.

Eventually CCP posted a Dev Blog and cited some bullsh*t about how there’s hardly anyone using it so they decided to remove it. For justification they stated that approximately about 5 weeks of Dev time per year is spent on maintaining the code for Captains Quarters and since the code was old, if they were to work on WIS content in the future, the Captains Quarters would have to be removed and coded again. Supposedly removing the Captains Quarters would free up Dev time to work on other game related stuff.

Basically it’s all a bunch of bullsh*t, they said the code for Captains Quarters could be upgraded to current graphics technology but that would take 6 to 8 months of work and since it wasn’t being used very much, it was better for them to just remove it. Course they wouldn’t admit that the main reason it wasn’t being used very much is because they didn’t implement any gameplay content with it.

Anyway, it definitely looked great, just couldn’t interact with other characters, not even conference video calls to other characters. It’s a shame, so much potential wasted.

A complete and very comprehensive answer. Thank you, DeMichael! I understand now what happened. But still I can’t help but express my sadness for not having this feature in the game anymore, or at least having the possibility to play with it for a while, before it was taken down. I do hope they bring it back in the future.

I sincerely hope the “never” part is not true. You know the saying… “never say never”. I would like the feature back at least as it was.

Considering the fact that CCP is now owned by a company that specializes in games with Avatar content, I’d say there’s a very good possibility of that happening sometime in the future.

I’ve never seen this thread, I’m really glad it exists, thank you all for posting this stuff, it’s really great.

Also, there’s this thread:

Its also amazing but in somewhat of a different way.
Note that link might jump you to a sort of random spot, I’m using the mobile app at the moment so links are a little hard to test before posting.

…how was this necro even possible? I thought threads without posts for 3 months got auto-locked. :open_mouth:

you know what boys

I miss it.

I never got to see it and it’s starting to get under my skin a bit.
I don’t see how they could possibly have to spend that much time updating code for something they weren’t developing after they got it going, unless they were doing development on it and no one ever saw the results…
If that’s the case I want to see that stuff really badly.

Amarr Hallway leading to Captains Quarters from Docking Bay

Indeed the Amarr stations were the coolest, IMO, because they had statues flanking the CQ entrance. Gallente was second, Minmatar 3rd, and Caldari 4th, IMO. I’m sure a Google Search can give you a better glimpse of a past era, however, since I never took any screenshots of my CQs. :slightly_frowning_face:

I have been googling old Eve stuff actually since I started playing (when I was really new this caused me all sorts of silly problems).
It’s always struck me as kind of random how things are added and removed.
There’s a place called Ginnungagap (to the east of Minmatar on the map) where a black hole used to be visible, but they got rid of the black hole so when I got there I spent a hell of a lot of time flying all over the place trying to see it. If you do show info on this area it still says where you can see it from but it’s been gone for ages.
I have no idea why they got rid of it and left the text, it’s a good example of them being random.
