Post something that isn’t “I don’t believe you”
Post something to show I’m wrong, after spending a few hours in Different Discords, TS, Mumble channels - Where the most popular topic was what do I do now with my army of alts. If even half the people i encountered over the last 2 weeks drop subs they can no longer justify paying for - CCP is going to have to find a crap load of new players to sustain income levels.
But this is just my opinion from a couple of weeks talking to others, I could be completely wrong and those players will continue subbing multiple accounts they no longer use.
Sorry but this is my last reply to you - conversing with trolls is not my thing.,.
according to helmar, “16,000 people try eve every week” so it seems a large amount of people (if what he says is true) Are playing the game, they are just not staying. If this is true, they just need to find out why and eve’s population will sky rocket.
LOL oh my, delusion and lack of business acumen is strong here.
The number of players IS the revenue base, without players there is no revenue - Unless you have some new business model that changes the way business has been done for centuries - Customers create revenue, lose customers = lose revenue.,.
Except that Alpha accounts generate no revenue and players may only buy subs which is generating the minimum revenue. So again “CCP is a business and it is the revenue they generate that is important NOT the number of players.”
Oh and your last comment came off like you were a Trump supporter.
Population is the key to everything, from income, to longevity and over all health of the game.
This is why creating niche based games like eve from the start are such horrible idea’s. You will never see ccp in the billions of dollars, because, ccp did not have designers intelligent enough to think of, or know this.
But somehow I don’t think they wanted to create a niche game. At least not from the beginning. By the year 2003 EVE online wasn’t that niche of a game, the whole MMO industry was niche if you ask me…
There were so many tech limitations that caused EVE to be EVE, sadly some of the result of that limitation is still not solved by now, and probably won’t be solved in the near future.
The problem now is, either you change so much to embrace the general public and risk loosing a big chunk of current population, or try to keep the niche and stay small. This choice must be hard.
Na, they had to of made that choice because of the complexity levels, that or the designers are oblivious on how to make a game and got lucky (which is possible).
Complexity, as well as the (in those days) high graphics requirements seemed to suggest they were building for a target, smaller audience.
This is actually a really easy choice, its just a very scary move. Its not that bringing eve up to the modern industry positions and concepts is hard, or even a bad move, its that doing so may cause a loss, and there is no gaurentee of gain.
The problem with this is, its what sun tsu would call “death ground” you either make the move, or the game dies.
Sadly in terms of business, it has to make money, at least to the extend to support the development of the next game. CCP failed on so many other games like Dust and Valkyrie that EVE online is the only cash cow now.
Yes…that must have been it…no other reason for ccp not to take you seriously.
Perhaps. Some might consider the constant and ridiculous bias a frequent and…vocal commenter such as naari displays on a thread about the direction ccp intends to take their game to be of at least minor relevence.
You’re probably right, though. There have always been people like that in EvE and indeed in all the interwebs.
About EvE as a business…
CCP’s situation has changed a lot.
Things are very different in the PA era. I speculate that CCP may feel even less beholden to pleasing more people now.
Please allow me to quote myself from another place;
" Yeah, that’s why PA paid such a hefty price to acquire CCP - they were really buying CCP’s established permissions to access the potentially lucrative Chinese gaming market. Pearl Abyss could make a lot of money tapping into the Chinese smartphone gaming geyser.
This is the beginning of that project and is not unexpected.
The whole paradigm of EvE as a business has changed whether any of us like it or not. PA is calling the shots now. PAccp is not dependent on the current EvE playerbase to keep EvE going long-term and cover CCP’s payroll and stock health.
All of us currently playing EvE could quit, and it won’t prevent PA from possibly making a boatload of Yuan on what is admittedly a fairly clever business gamble. The situation is not similar to diablo immortal.
Personally my plan has not changed since shortly after the buyout of ccp by PA was announced - I plan to keep enjoying eve on pc until the server hamsters are re-homed by the RSPCA. Whether that will be sooner than I had hoped or many years in the future, it’s been a fun ride with hopefully much more to come.
But let’s not be under any delusion that we the playerbase control the fate of EvE anymore. That has changed."
Good.
Eve went to ■■■■ because the playerbase got listened to.
The world craves leadership by people who have earned their positions through hard work and creativity. On the other side there are indeed a lot of people in this world who do need to be told to sit down and shut up. Even if they have good ideas, their low tier communication skills wreck everything.
Egalitarianism was a myth. Let the adults in the room run things. Everybody else who came to have fun, just relax and do so.
Gaming itself, in the way that we understand it now, was a niche for nearly 20 years, until people discovered there was a ■■■■-ton of cash to be made by targeting the general public instead of the limited “nerd” audience. The introduction of the PS1 changed gaming from something seen as the domain of children and nerds to being something for everybody and socially acceptable.
Some devs followed the money and became huge enterprises that offer variations on a theme, others decided to continue targeting the smaller audience, preferring quality and innovation over cash flow.
You will never see ccp in the billions of dollars,
In the past CCP appear to have made a conscious choice to not pursue the big money, instead being content to turn over a reasonable profit and make something a little different from the norm; which incidentally may be one of the reasons that Eve has outlived 90+% of its more mainstream competitors.
because, ccp did not have designers intelligent enough to think of, or know this.
I think that they were well aware of this, I believe that they chose to go their own way knowing the limitations of their design choices and product in relation to the mainstream; that doesn’t make them deserving of your scorn.
You have as little an idea about the internal thought processes and design decisions that CCP undertook as anybody else, unless of course you are an ex CCP employee that was party to them. That said, no idea seems to be your default state.
It may well be the case that CCP still see themselves as a niche market filler, one that is content to let others pay for the use of their IP as the basis for more mainstream market access.
Filling a niche and doing it well is what most businesses do. They don’t usually set out to be billion dollar companies. I’m sure even early on CCP recognized Eve had more niche appeal and from the beginning they were actively looking for alternative games to broaden their market penetration. Remember the White Wolf purchase?
The reality is though CCP as an independent studio was not very successful at releasing games. The few that did make it to market had limited success, but so many resources were spent on failed projects. That wasn’t because of Eve, and in fact was only possible because of how successful Eve was and is.
The good news is though that now that CCP has hitched their horse to PA, that really isn’t an issue anymore. PA is wildly successful and rich so the chance of Eve dying as an IP are near zero now. Sure, CCP as a studio could be disbanded, and Eve could be ruined, but these crocodile tears about Eve being too niche to survive have no basis now that Eve is part of a larger gaming conglomerate. As long as Eve remains profitable to run, PA will keep running it. And they’re very likely to keep experimenting with Eve-like games and the Eve IP beyond the niche CCP has served well.
Not many game companies are larger than PA so talking like CCP is still some indy startup studio struggling to survive to push for your pet game change is inane.
