Are you familiar with the Avalanche?
Half the cargo of a standard freighter, but it also has 2,000,000m³ Infrastructure hold. It may not be able to move a whole lot of Tritanium, but it’ll move an ungodly amount of other stuff!
This is a complete list of what it can haul- 2,000,000 m³! (for reference, this baby will move 7,000,000 units of Heavy Water in one trip without using the 200,000m³ cargo hold!
In addition, the Avalanche has 6 High Turret slots for heavy launchers capable of giving it 1,000 DPS (if you have the missile skills - I’m currently working on mine so I can’t yet get the full potential), 3 medium slots, and 3 low slots. It’s also capable of using the Capital Flex Shield Hardener which lets you “patch holes” in its resistances. Unlike the T1 freighters which are all 0% EM resist- forever. Can’t change that.
Basically, the freighter I described had no weapons, no 2,000,000m³ infrastructure hold, and simply more cargo space. Not really that far fetched next to the Upwell freighter.
The Avalanche which is way better than the faction freighters and is the same price as they are. They’re all 2 to 3 billion in price. That’s quite a big hit to the wallet no matter what you’re carrying. Especially if you’re flying a jump freighter! That’s got the worst cargo space of all the freighters and costs a whopping 9 billion!
Freighters are expensive.
Take the Orca:
Cost: 2B
Cargo: 26,000m³
Drone Bay: 200m³
Ship Maintenance Bay: 400,000m³
Fleet Hangar: 40,000m³
Mining Hold: 172,500m³
This ship holds that much even though it’s not a freighter. It’s an industrial command ship. It has features and strengths that make it very good at what it does, but since it holds so much, it doubles as a freighter and for the same price as a standard freighter.
My point is that the standard T1 freighters are already very outclassed by other ships for the same price (except for the vastly overpriced Jump freighter).
The faction freighters are out of date. An Avalanche has half the cargo capacity of the standard freighters, massive defenses, very decent DPS, and an infrastructure hold that is so massive that you can grab just about anything in one trip. All that for the exact same price tag.
