Change in citadel benefits

Help out a guy who’s short on caffeine and home with a podling today: what is your proposal exactly? I scrolled up through the thread and didn’t see anything explicit, but it’s entirely possible that I missed it.

Except that the mechanics there are entirely different. Once you mine ore and put it in a can, you owned that ore, and someone else taking it from the can could be considered theft. The aggression was the theft, not the harvesting.

I agree that moon mining should be that way. Under the current system there is virtually no risk to ore thieves or to folks hiding behind shell corporations. But with the current mechanics (i.e. refineries pull mineable asteroids into space) it cannot ever be that way. You’d need something like a PI planetary launch where the ore is launched into space in some sort of can anyone can open but is owned by the same corporation that owns the refinery that produced it.

Just monkeying around with suspect flags and wardec mechanics won’t do that, you’d have to fundamentally change how moon mining works.

Moons can only be mined by the corp that owns the structure that generated the ore.

I would consider a slightly less strict alternative where anyone outside the owning corp gets a suspect flag but can mine if they are able to survive.

Right, but by analogy the ore in space is in a “jetcan” where it sits temporarily until you finish the extraction process. The exact mechanics are not identical but the principle behind them is the same.

That would be weird, because you can see the asteroids, but cannot do anything with them. Suspect flag is better IMO.

Asking non-sarcastically: how would that work? Would the moon goo asteroids only be targetable by players in the corp owning the structure? Or would only players in the owning corp be able to activate harvesters on them? Or am I missing something?

I’m asking because there’s zero precedent for either of these game mechanics. They sit firmly in the realm of “Generating a suspect flag for activating a resource harvester.” Yeah, you could do one of these, but if you’re already introducing groundbreaking (and possibly game-breaking) mechanics, why not just revisit how moon mining works as a whole instead of trying to slap a band aid on it?

I’m not saying “no”, but it seems like we’re all trying to address an issue (i.e. the weird way that CCP re-tooled moon mining) without looking at the actual issue.
