CLOSED! From n00bs for n00bs: learning together (see also [c0bal])

Hi there,

I am new to the game, probably just like you. Just in case you want to explore the possibilities together—but, let me mention one thing first:

I also have a main in EVE Uni. That’s a great place to go, in case you want to see more people and have a busy discord channel. For n000b, I am in the process of setting up a forum. (I’ll update this message.) Also, don’t hesitate to send me in game messages. Those are certainly going to be interesting. Looking forward to hearing from you!

o7 First & foremost. Welcome to New Eden!

Just want a little clarification for this topic:

Are you looking for a corp/group of friends with similar playstyles or something in between :face_with_monocle:

With the exception of stating your main char in E-Uni, the rest of the topic seemed vague regarding what your goal is?

Whatever you do in Eve remember, Fly Reckless o7

First off, thanks for the kind answer, pointing out the obvious “immaturity” in a kind way.

oh, that’s a good one!

Yes, looking at the game for about a month now, I feel, there is still a lot of potential in this game that some people are wondering how long it will last. Now, the next morning, I realize I should rather go elswhere and tell people about the game and whoever get into the game via me, that’s a win for eve online against all the much less smart games out there!

Hello again Imicos! I hope New Eden has treated you well since I last replied a week ago. Consider this a friendly check :check_mark: up.

Have you put any serious thought  into what you want to do exactly every time you undock? Eve as a whole is a marathon, not a sprint. If you wish to build memories to past & a reason to login every time you have the time to spare, a formulated career path is the key to success in that regard.

Essentially, decide what you’re passionate about in game then narrow down how to optimize your fun p/hr, not your isk p/hr.

Strongly advise you don’t take the more common path of spreadsheet warrior. This leads to bitter vet syndrome….nullbear brain rot is real folks.

Advise you take the lesser known choice of small gang operations. Essentially you choose to be the David against the Goliath of your chosen protagonist. Best fun p/hr in game by far, 10/10 would :ok_hand: recommend.

I have np guiding you in the right direction & career path, but you have to put the work in. No coddling, take the plunge: reap the reward.

Hey Koloblicin,

I feel that I have to explain why I tagged [n000b] as PVP before I answer. I am inspired by one of the golden rules.

So, yes, indeed, I would expect that people want to undock from time to time. Not more. Not less. However, that is not a strict rule either. The main point of [n000b] is to get better at knowing the game and the meta.

Execute a plan.

The difficult part is finding the right compromise between

and unprepared target. You need a plan to avoid getting blown up randomly. It may be as simple as stay in high-sec with a cheap ship so that suicide bombers won’t be profitable against you. Actually, I have not done my research on this. From my experience, getting blown up in high-sec is not likely. I am sure somebody has done the calculation of how likely it is to fall victim to pirates relative to worth of ship/cargo. Jita may be the outlier, but I have not done my practice for all the alignment tricks for quick warp as an alpha (Sunesis, bookmark, burn …).

Let us look at what greybill writes.

The ganking activity produced lots of killboard-entries and losses, obstructing the small gang activites in other areas to some degree.

So, it seems as if it is not that simple to have small gang operations going on a big scale. I agree it would be a fun way to get started and the problem of becoming too well-known is not a real problem. So, yes, it is one of the options that make sense, in general.

Change of topics incoming! I have some restrictions for how I would “play” the game: I think, most of the time would go into preparing for what to do in short sessions. I simply cannot squeeze in more than 1 hour at a stretch given that I also have a RL.

So, yes, best fun per single hour is a great measure to aim for, and even better if I can shrink the hour to 45 minutes.

Let me conclude this post with an observation. The real treasure of EVE online are a minority of extremely interesting people out there that don’t give up in believing that this game is great. Actually, I was toying with the though of adding “interview with EVE celebrities” to the n000b-forum. The first contact with one of them was when I got my n00b-ship from @Mike_Azariah . For now, I am just growing my EVE online “network.” You may be my first big catch

o7 Interesting follow up & observations from a new players point of view!

I only have a few casual observations & remarks to add:

I’d strongly advise against this but you do you brother. My references of small gang operations do not include nor consider hig-sec at all. Personally, I haven’t resided in high-sec space in over a decade. To me it’s only a place to pick stuff up from Jita and transit as quickly as possible from Jita with said stuffs & back to what I do…which is lose said stuffs in engaging with others to make them lose even moar said stuffs

I did read greybill’s article you linked. Appeared to be an insightful breakdown from an also newer players point of view. To elaborate on said article & clarify something. The “Eve Fame” & groups akin to “Rooks & Kings” are still out there doing what they do best. The only real change is that said groups aren’t really committed to documenting & editing what they’re doing for the sake public advertisement & promotion. When recording their interactions with other groups on the regular, most of said documentation & videos are kept internally or shared among select other groups for zkill showing off & br’s (battle reports). That is all I have comment on about that. Personally I do fall under the ‘small group/big action’ Eve interactions…but I am likely unknown to practically 99.9% of the Eve Community which is exactly how I prefer it to be. The article did get 1 thing right tho, most said groups avoid fame & fortune in a public venue mostly due to said reasons stated: they only care about the pew itself & internal interactions within their respective communities. Their thoughts towards “I wonder if anybody in high-sec or YouTube wants to know what I’m doing?” are exactly like mine: non-existent.

Mostly an uninformed decision you have made their, but also seems to be focused on high-sec stuffs…which I have 0 knowledge nor interest in.

If you do get serious about interviewing “Eve celebs” and have a proper pod-cast I could prob connect with a few people who’d fit the criteria of ‘Notorious Warriors & Content Creators of Eve’. However it would be a cold day in hell before you’d catch me doing said podcast.

Good luck & Fly Reckless o7
