CODE - Forums and Discussions

It’s not as simple as that. Try avoiding CODE in a Freighter and you’ll soon see why it’s not that simple. The problem is that there is no way to avoid dedicated gankers. Personally, I have never played in HS as its a waste of my time but by having such an insane and brutal learning curve, all you’re doing is preventing the game from growing.

I agree that there’s too many players growing away in hs but when it takes five years or £2000 to get some skills, this is just what’s going to happen

60% is being generous. When I say 60% of accounts, I mean active accounts. There will ofc be inactive accounts but anyone who playes EVE and is honest would estimate there to be a maximum of 10k players. The amount of multiboxing going on in this game is crazy which is the only real issue I have but this is linked to the game not growing

You can’t expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.

How do you tell?

I have dropped into a system, seen that code was active, warped to a belt, warned a mining ship… who replied immediately… and then he was ganked…
He wasn’t a bot and he wasn’t AFK…

Hypocrisy?

So how does ganking create more demand for multiboxing?

And do you have a source for that 60% figure?

Nothing about Freighter ganking is preventing the game from growing. Freighters aren’t a new player ship and that is also shown in the actual Freighter loss stats.

For example, pulling the last 1000 Freighter losses in highsec (up to a few hours ago), the initial breakdown is:

Earliest Loss: 11 March 2020
Latest Loss: 28 November 2020

Total Days: 262

Type of Loss Number
War 100
NPC, Insurance fraud, Baiting, Other 231
Possible gank 669

Mean Freighter Ganks Per Day: 2.5 (or approximately 1 every 10 hours)

Of course, it isn’t exactly 1 every 10 hours as there are peaks in ganker activity, so much longer periods where no freighter gank occurs.

The last time I counted freighter movements in Uedama for example, it averaged 20 movements per hour. Making an assumption that it is still about the same, that puts approximately 200 freighter movements through Uedama per gank (but that is just illustrative and needs confirming if it is still the case, and also the actual number has peaks and troughs, so it is more movements at some times and less at others).

But what about the ages of Freighter pilots?

Measure Value
Mean age in Years 6.4
Median age in Years 6.5
Std Dev in Years 4.48

So 84% of all Freighter ganks involve pilots more than 2 years old and half of all losses are by pilots older than 6.5 years (with the oldest being 16.8 years in the game).

Plotting the age of the freighter pilots at time of loss, new players losing freighters just isn’t a problem:

As someone that has a freighter alt that flies all over highsec regularly, avoiding gankers is simple, because:

  • Freighters just don’t get ganked often in comparison to how many movements they make
  • There are 1212 highsec systems and only a small number that present any real risk at all, so that narrows the focus of being careful
  • With 1 alt to assist, that risk even in those limited systems can be reduced to near 0

It’s just not an issue, and certainly not an issue for new players. Older players that lose Freighters need to take responsibility for the loss themself. They should know how to protect the ship better.

How Will I be encourage to pay a permit. You can’t even wardeck the Peremeter tower which alliances are behind the Fall of Niarja. Except if your In the Side of the Triglavians which is not necessarily a bad thing because the 4 Empires has their own Hypocrisy.

Freighters are designed to be in a Fleet. Imagine a Freighter being guarded by Nestors with remote reps and bunch of combat drones. Hauling a billions of isk cargo Solo in a big slow ship is not wise.

Wow, you are just chock full of useful information about Highsec!

Don’t mind Him. Seems He forgot that Null and Lowsec players are not somewhat a protagonist. They are more unforgiving that Highsec PVPr’s

This is ‘griefing’, and we should cry and scream about the terrible thing that has been done!

=*************=

This is ‘elite PvP’, playing the game as intended and nothing to whinge about!

The fact of the matter is everything CODE does is harder in Highsec, and easier outside of Highsec, which means everyone we kill deserves it, because they got killed even with all the Highsec protections.

Speaking of Griefing. CCP seems not doing anything to Help real new players. They are becoming a collateral damage in eve pvp wars. It’s really impossible to pinpoint whose a new player and an Alt. I’m sick of many players just always blaming your alliance. The hate is unreasonable already.

The fairly recent changes to wardec mechanics have made wars opt in; at least in hisec. I think that CCP could do more to warn newer players that joining a corp with a structure has inherent risks, and that corps that do have structures should make clear that they are subject to random wars.

I don’t think it’s CCP’s job to teach people how to play the game.

I agree that it is unfortunate that newbies who can’t be expected to know any better are recruited and exploited by incompetent corps and never taught how to survive in EVE. Perhaps CCP should have a system where corps with an established record of competence are somehow highlighted and given preference in recruiting? Maybe new players should automatically join CODE. on character creation?

You should also have to disable a safety setting in order to activate a mining laser.

There should be a pop-up, “Are you sure you want to steal Princess Aiko’s ore?”

Exactly. One of those tutorial popups explaining that mining in highsec without a permit is illegal and may result in ganking, so that new players understand the consequences for their actions. And maybe the career path should include a tutorial preparing new players to be a CODE. enforcement officer. Then we can say without any doubt that new players have made informed choices, whichever path they choose.

Carebears kill more new players than anyone else, telling them it’s fine to mine and haul stuff and run missions - they could be honest and tell new players the truth, but then who would mine minerals and haul stuff for the benefit of the Highsec mining CEO?
