Concern about Highsec Ganking, Fake “Consequences,” and Omega Players as Farm Content

Can’t reply to ooc in that thread, had to find some way to bring it to your attention that you are supposed to post in character only. Doubt capsuleers know what world of tanks are

Not what exists today. As already stated, the security tags are being used to trade isk for security status. Remove the tags.

Repair security status loss via any other means of a player’s choosing, just not via P2W.

What else would security tags be used for? That’s very specifically their function but you are insisting upon this non-point as if it is some heretofore unknown misuse that hadn’t been considered.

Suicide ganking people is easy. If you’re willing to dedicate the character to that specific activity, and only that specific activity.

For anyone who wants to play “normally”, suicide ganking does actually have annoying long term consequences such as Kill Rights.

Sell them for isk at NPC stations like any other loot item.

Advertising space as High Sec then allowing Ganker Corps/Alliances to roam free is like selling a heater that blows cold air.

On God i flew my Badger gate to gate from FDZ → OBE and only the only time i started to worry was when i hit high sec and had to start looking for your pretentious side profile (I’m just jealous) in local. It’s just nonsense that you can wack these loot pinatas for billions of isk each day.

That’s a core game mechanic.

What’s the problem?

Sigh. Once again you show off how clueless you are.

Security status can be lost via activities other than highsec ganking. I’ve lost security status in battles in lowsec. Also for lowsec solo kills.

Or would you have PvP completely removed from EVE so you can sit around mining AFK and pretend to ‘play EVE’ ?

So you’re saying there are meaningful and inconvenient consequences to suicide ganking?

Yes, but that it’s entirely possible to play in such a way that they become trivial, or even a non-factor.

It is also entirely possible to play in such a way that avoiding gankers becomes trivial, or even a non-factor.

I vote we just rename highsec to danger space, lowsec to mega danger space, and null to milk and honey space. That should clarify things for new players, and end the arguing once and for all.

Where’s my milk and honey?

I got killed recently in milk and honey space, the name is misleading!

If one doesn’t actively cares for his safety, Nullsec is much more dangerous than HighSec. In HighSec a miner, missionrunner, explorer or abyssalrunner can do what he does for a year without even being attacked. Just follow some basic rules and you are 99.9% safe in HS.

Try that in Nullsec and you’ll be dead in a day. NS is also ony safe if you (or your group) cares to take actions to make that area safe and you pay attention what you are doing while you are doing it.

My main home base is a system where there’s a multibox ganker there most of the time…often ganking expensive ships. I park my most expensive ships there. And I undock them even when the ganker is there…..just as I regularly fly into systems where Safety are operating. One day the gankers will get me…..but not today. And that risk is a large part of the fun…..not something to whine about.

You were the milk and honey in this case.

The tags were introduced when dust 514 was round. Instead of removing them, ccp kept them in

Struggling to find a point here. They don’t pertain to Dust in any mechanical way (and never did). It’s not like they rolled back the entire Odyssey expansion when they shut Dust down. Apart from the temporal proximity, there’s no relevance here. The Dust association was purely cosmetic.

From the dev blog regarding their addition:

To begin with, I’m going to list some of the goals that we had when starting this project. Some of these came from the high-level goals for the Odyssey expansion itself.

  • Give players a reason to be out in space. In particular, to be out in low-sec space.

    • Add something unique to low-sec that gives residents and visitors a resource worth fighting over
  • Add an alternative method of raising security status via the proven market mechanics

    • Provide an alternative way to get back in to high-sec for ‘reformed’ outlaw players. We have had players that would rather stop playing altogether than grind their way back up by killing NPCs

    • But we still need to respect the sandbox!

  • Reflect the DUST 514 storyline progression

    • The new NPCs represent the pirate factions seeing profit and/or power by supporting the clone mercenaries of DUST 514. This support has caused local CONCORD officials to offer special rewards to capsuleers who keep this new menace at bay.

They still accomplish every mechanical goal listed, and the bit of RP doesn’t matter in the least and and could very easily be supplanted onto Vanguard if we must pretend it matters.

Well, tbh that point can be argued becaus instead of ‘reformed’ outlaw players it is 99.99% used by players with absolutely no intention to stick to the law. It’s merely used to ‘buy off’ the consequences of breaking the law, repeatedly.

If they would have wanted to adress the goal they said, they could have made this sec-status reset via tags like an one-time opportunity with a cooldown of a year, like the attribute resets. So ‘reformed outlaws’ could use the tags if they really want to change ways or want to join a corp where low sec status isn’t accepted. But repeat offenders could not.

Just sayin’
