But it’s not years to fly a titan. With no remaping or implants it’s 220 days. Doing it properly with implants and remaps it’s likely under 4 months.
Multi billion isk ships are disposable? That’s a new sense of scale you have there.
Players will also be drawn in by epic sub capital battles. Because… you know… see above for price, you can make pricey subcaps, and without capitals you will see a LOT more battleships.
I disagree. Neither of us can know what drives new players, CCP will no doubt have the metrics. From my own anecdotal experience, I came to the game because I read about BR5 in a PC Gamer article. Cap fights get a lot of attention and free advertising and a lot of people try Eve dreaming about flying such ships into battle.
Subcaps didn’t captivate me in the same way. I spent years subbing 3-4 accounts to reach my goal. It was a long grind which I thoroughly enjoyed and provided CCP with my custom for a long time.
I don’t want new players losing access to that… Or CCP for that matter.
I haven’t made an alt in a while, I just remember the last time I did a few years back (ugh), the tutorial literally has you fly by all of the ship classes in the game which progressed up to the titan before the mission ended (damn, that was a long time ago). When my son played it, his literal first words was, “I want that ship!” pointing to the titan.
it is or was part of the new player experience. ISTR firing up the UI for the first time in April 2016 and materialising next to an Avatar wreck and thinking to myself “What the hell is that!?” then some voice in my head saying, or something telling me I could be flying one of those one day… jaw hit floor. That thing was gigantic.
It was legitimately part of the tutorial, at least for Gallente. It was some sort of large fleet battle they’re preparing for and you fly by all of the ships (and can stop and look at them up close) while you go to your objective (final objective).
