Community Management is not obsolete. It’s there to do spring cleaning and monitor for rule violations.
PA doesn’t give a single ■■■■ about communities. They don’t even include community response patterns in marketing research. Policies are a mere minor point of interest, delegated.
What PA does is strict commercial userbase research, data mining, behavioural analys within the game environment. Cambridge Analytica were amateurs in comparison
I can tell you, my man, im fully “tinfoiled” up atm!!
This move is ominous as hell and can go one of two directions. Pearl Abyss keeps to their word and actually let CCP do what they want with Eve Online (wishful thinking lol) or Pearl Abyss will let CCP do their thing, until they feel like they dont make enough money and then Eve will either be shut down or turned into a microtransaction nightmare, full of p2w.
Well, I went ahead and cancelled my subscription. Not looking forward to additional monetary steps being added (which they eventually will). It’s not like Pearl Abyss would buy the company if they didn’t have a vision for how to grow profitability.
I am worried.
Eve was never a teenage game. Eve is math, strategy and science. It requires intelligence and wisdom, or many dollars, in case you are an idiot and a millionaire.
I respect the culture of other world communities but EVE is not a game to stay under the tutelage of K-POP enthusiasts.
EVE and its community are unique. Nothing in the world compares to us. This must be respected.
I hope we will not be transformed into shallow mobile players.
It’s business, there is no tinfoil. Really, it’s just stripping away the marketing, relying on real world business expertise and experience, adhering to simple analysis of business results and timelines of business decisions and the interaction that created those.
EVE is not going to die. It won’t be killed. But yes, it will change. And yes, it will be milked.
If CCP meets their targets, they get their bonus. Notice how subtle this and some other points are introduced as a marketing point which can easily be used to trigger the customerbase into advocating pro-CCP in terms of retention. Fear, leaving will kill. This is just one example, but in all the statements and interviews there’s the typical dozen of them readily available as and when needed.
At the end of the day, it’s not a surprise. The foundations were put in place already. Heck, people got hints from all sorts of places and angles. And F2P is only ever a one-direction road really, in the gaming industry. It sets the commercial model on a fixed road of strict dependancies.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out long term perspectives on change, direction, content, mechanics and such. It just requires simple analysis and disregarding of marketing.
But humans are what they are. Humans love stories. Marketing is just that. And there is a well prepared foundation already. So there’s no momentum against it. In truth, the customer base is ready to roll with it. Sure there will be exceptions, but replacing those isn’t hard.
And if there’s little turmoil, CCP have the CSM. Distract, divide, derail. Toss in a bone or a crumb, and the show goes on anyway.
So yeah, it may come as a shock to a lot of people. But the conditions are perfect.
Anyone who wants to part with your stuff in game. Contract it to Chaos mancinelli. I will gladly take all of your stuff while you abandon the game. Thanks in advance for the contribution
Im not saying im surprised, im saying im expecting the worst now.
I fully understand that its all business and thats what scares me the most tbh. Business kills off good things, because “business is business” and at the end of the day, its only really about the cold hard cash you can get. Thats why i chose the word ominous.
Im confident this will have a massive impact on the eve we know and have loved for years.
I wonder if CCP actually gave the acquiring company the breakdown of who the real customer base is and not on what is posted on the forums…because they are in for a surprise if they view eve on line culture based on this forum…
This is very concerning for the future direction of the game. I wasn’t happy about CCPs very slow development cycle at this point but I’d take that over the potential P2W features Abyss are going to force into EVE to recover their investment.
