Dev blog: Moon mining revamped - There’s Ore in Them Thar Moons

It’s not like wormholers need more ways to make isk, but I actually think this could be a great content driver for holes. You see a rock getting close to a refinery, you know roughly when somebody is likely to turn up to mine it, you make preparations to show up and ruin their day. Could provide some fun opportunities for hole pirates.

Over on reddit there was hinting that CCP is not opposed to rolling this out in holes, just not in the initial release.

Wouldn’t blowing up a chunk of moon large enough to create an entire asteroid field just result in… the creation of the asteroid field?

it’s not a hint. CCP Lebowski explicitly said so upthread. They’re open to rolling out these structures for w-space as well, but not in the initial release, and are reluctant to have wh moons provide the same t2 mats as k-space ones (because of the potential economic disruption, I assume).

Actually, there haven’t been any trips by the CSM to the secret volcano lair since CSM 9.

I went there with @Mike_Azariah. Got some ok photos (only had my phone with me :frowning: that was dumb)

@Arrendis
I was only imagining being able to blow up the individual mini-chunk field, after the big chunk is blown up by the refinery.

But, expanding to blow up the entire primary chunk is also interesting.

maybe there’s some pseudo-logical explanation that if the primary chunk is destroyed in route to the refinery, the tractor beams dragging it up from the surface are too strong and will just rip apart all the resultant mini-chunks before they can be safely locked into their orbit near the refinery or mined.

The problem with allowing such tactics is that it enable BS no commitment attacks just like SOV. Would you still push for that idea if it require a few sieged dread level of DPS to meaningfully reduce the number of available rocks by shooting them of do you picture this ebing done by fozzieclaws?

Will their be new mining crystals for moon mining to use in mining barges/exumers?

absolutely this should take a lot of commitment. It takes a lot of man hours to mine out a belt, so there should need to be an investment in the aggressor in terms of resources and damage applied to deny those materials to the owners of the moon.

oooo!!! give an offensive purpose to the Orca and Porpoise, they can fit a new Concussive Opposition Kinetic Barrage Launcher Ordinance Kit (COKBLOK) module that can blow up the chunks and mini chunks. they need help getting on field and extracting from the op, which brings the pvp ship and removes the quick ninja-strike inty doctrine that has few counters.

What I think is more interesting about being able to blow up the mini-rocks is that you can select which resources that you want to deny.

Yeah it would be an interesting conflict driver.

I don’t think making isk in wormholes is as easy as people tend to think. Earning isk in null sec is far easier and less risky.

If you actually read what I said, your reply doesn’t make much sense.

So one day everybody wakes up and suddenly, overnight the moons are now made out of completely different stuff! This… This I think deserves an explanation (lore-wise) that does not induce eye-rolling.

Something greater than, “CONCORD says your Granpappy’s moontools be illegal! Now you use these, they work differently!”

Effectively, this is a natural catastrophe on a galactic scale. I think we deserve more than hand-waving.

Something something drifters.

Done.

the minerals were always there, the tools are literally changing.

I love the improvements to the extremely bland moon analyzer. I’m also rather interested in seeing how the new mining method is going to work out for the long haul. Yes, the areas will be a little more defended whilst mining is occurring, but at the same time - I’m curious just how it’s going to push the entire T2 market.

@CCP_Lebowski :

Passively collecting 40k m3 of Chromium in a month is one thing, but spending an additional 4 hours mining it may be another story entirely. Especially considering just how many different materials it takes to build T2 ships!!

And will we be seeing more randomness with regional goo? IE - No more 12 moons per constellation with Scandium, but only 1 moon in 4 constellations with Titanium?

I’m really curious on how this will work out mining-time wise. Also, will Excavators / Mining Drones be able to mine it vs. crystals only?

Just a few questions I’d be interested in answers with.

I suspect you’re not too far off on their future plans for PI, where that would likely make the most sense. That would be, if I were a betting man.

Hello,

#1. English is not my first language.
#2. I need to ask a question … see #1.

below are two (2) items,

#1. Only available in Low, and/or Null. ((no problem))
#2. Is “looting” okay? <—

I ask for a single reason, … … If a ‘Belt’ is created after the ‘stuffs’ are fully removed from the Moon, it appears ( at least to me ) the ‘belt’ NOW, needs to be mined … <?> ... in addition, will any pilot get a 'suspect/criminal .. KR' i.e. --> *for looting* === means that 'moon' and/or that 'belt'<?> was not for them to take on<?>. ??

I do thank you, in advance.

ty!

if I missed my guess, I send you some nice apple sauce. Apple Sauce, FTW!!!

yeah, that will probably be the angle, it’s ‘good enough’. It doesn’t resolve the disconnect of why the old tools stopped working and poofed :stuck_out_tongue:

There are lots of other logistic considerations. On day one of the change, do all the control towers go POOF!

Where do all the reactions and reactors and silos go?

Do only the moon miners go POOF?
They will no longer be able to mine the materials they have been. Will refineries be available to build before the change? If not, you are looking at a major disruption of supplies. (However long to build a refinery, a week to mine the moon, and however long to run the new reactions.)

That’s cause since the Summer of Rage and the Townhall stupidity you work for CCP now, not for its customers :psycsm: :stuck_out_tongue: For tidbits and the odd little fish :stuck_out_tongue:

You can freely mine in the belt, with no flags.
