its kinda hard to describe a solution proposed by a vast majority of the people almost immediately after the change was announced that ccp was able to accept and work on implementing as anything other than troubling it wasn’t already the path that should have been taken from the get go.

though I still find an entire new mod rather than just adding a script that retained the attributes and disallowed activation if a prop was running to be just added clutter.

The signals for a jammer (for a cell phone) are of a similar strength over every frequency used, so to try and find the location of a jammer from a jammed device would yield no results as all signals incoming would be of the same strength.
To detect a jammer among multiple transmitters you would need a specialized receiver able to detect and separate the transmitters using a single frequency from those using multiple.

In EvE terms you need a special module

Like a SeBo.

Oh no, SeBo aren’t special enough apparently.

umm not sure why we are talking irl in terms of game balance but are you trying to compare jamming a military ship with jamming a cell phone.

A cell phone jammer just jams know cellular company frequencies not all frequencies.

I would equate a targeted ECM to finding out what frequency you are using and jamming just that one, the SEBO would switch frequencies and the ECM ship would try to find and jam the new one.

with ccp ignoring everybody in this topic, i would suggest a general stike on the use of ecm after the patch.
Perhaps this might change ccp oppion on the ecm change.

It would still have been a more sensible change to ECM to add the “can target ECM ship” to the SeBo or the ECCM script.

At least you would have to fit against ECM then to make it useless, and not get a free pass against it.

People don’t complain about having to fit a battery against neuts.

Military jamming & Cell phone jamming - same principal - There are only so many ways to do something like this either burn it out, drown it out, mimic it or mirror to nullify.

Talking about how things work in real life, in a discussion about a game that uses references to real life items to define in-game items, seems a fair tool to use for game balance.

I suggested adding targeting abilities to the ECCM script a long way back in this discussion - I still think its the best way to give agency to the jammed player.

well the release is here - and oh look no mention of any change (stats buff) to any ecm ships. what a surprise…another poorly thought through release - balance pass? unbalanced pass more like it.

… you are flying submarines in spaces and an entire race of ships uses ■■■■■■■ gravitons for its sensors. 21st I think we left the realm of 21st century reality. EvE is an arcade not a sim when it comes to anything outside the market

considering if you fit ECCM your probably not getting jammed clearly fitting against isn’t much of an option. and this changes from people not taking the agency to fit into the game not allowing it. many ships simply don’t have the slots to fit one of these

Activating the SEBO with the ECCM script allows you to target lock the ship jamming you - I had thought this would be a new script not the existing hardening script.

I can see how limited mid slots would make the choice between Prop & Tank vs Prop & Sebo difficult (I don’t know how many ships only have 2 mid slots)

Maybe this could be seen as an opportunity to also rework the auto-targeting module as there are fewer modules to compete with for a utility high slot.

but gsm + cccp CAN give you fewer things to fit against; like inty’s and ecm (see changes).

ps: I see @brisc_rubal came out of his ‘dream job’ just long enough to contradict himself, yet again, and repeatedly, about breaking inty’s, but not, heavy use, but no impact, but impactful and uncounterable, but easy to kill and hardly even a nuisance, but needing nerfing now to make them useless, to save vni’s that dont need saving, but not all of them, only some. breaking ecm in multiple instances, but not, cuz its in heavy use, but wont be, but will still be in certain situations, except when it isn’t. uh huh

CCP hates caldari that much is obvious.

Why not just introduce t2 shuttles for travel and make interceptors actually have to fight instead of just being used for ganking.

nullification tied to weapons timer would work fine tbh. oh but THATS too much WORK, said some lazy sob somewhere along the way…
