Everything about this smells very bad.Imagine if they didn’t retracted, the game risked bankruptcy. I don’t trust anything coming from this rag tag team anymore. Latest CCP crew is so unprofessional and have no idea how to handle things, both about game design and communication .
FIRST OF ALL CCP , ALL THIS FUSS SHOULD HAVE BEEN HANDLED INTERNALY UNTIL A DEFINITE VERDICT WITH PROOFS WAS READY TO BE MADE PUBLIC !!!

While I’m glad they admitted a mistake and things are being corrected, I’m more curious of where the unsubstantiated evidence came from or who screwed the pooch on interpreting the data/jumping the gun.

From a former department head:
- encounter evidence of wrongdoing
- secure evidence, make sure the people in question can’t do more damage (suspend their accounts if necessary)
- Talk to the people involved, get their statements, ask them to come clean if they actually did anything wrong. this can be a shortcut to resolving the issue, or it will give another reason to pull the trigger later on if the accused party is discovered to have been lying.
- if required or desired (e.g. because the suspensions would become public knowledge anyway, in which case it’s better to head things off earlier), offer a statement: there is an ongoing investigation. findings will be posted once the investigation has concluded.
- perform the investigation. make sure you have the proof you expect to have, or that the evidence is strong enough to act on.
- perform the arrived-upon judgement and actions
- if required or desired, deliver statement on the result of the investigation
Sure, it’s a different situation when it’s about an employee and potential litigation issues instead of a game where the owner can pretty much do whatever. It’s still a lot better for one’s credibility to wait with presenting “facts” until these have, in truth, been established as facts.

So, I can understand not wanting to answer because you don’t want people to game the system, but I now have questions about what exactly is your standard of proof and review process (and what it will be moving forward). Naturally, I want you to be able to quickly catch and deal with bad guys, but I also hope that you aren’t punishing innocent players.

Unbefuckinglievable. How the ■■■■ is it even possible to publicly state a player broke a NDA without actual being 100% sure about that?
Correcting a mistake is all good and dandy but this isn’t a “mistake”, this is a blunder on a scale unimaginable.
Other players have mentioned it as well. How can we ever trust CCP again about account bans. How can we trust them that you or me aren’t the next one, or were all those previous bans thoroughly examinations before the hammer hit them.
I think I will take some time contemplating having my subs renewed.
PS: do not good riddance me yet.

I’m certainly speculating here, but it’s possible that CCP’s standard of proof is lower than that which would be required in a civil suit. So normally, they would just ban and be done with it. But this time, one of the players involved might have threatened legal action, which would have prompted CCP reevaluate the evidence to see if it was strong enough for a court of law.

All this makes me think that CCP’s legal and PR department (if they have any) were asleep at the switch. They might want to make it a standing rule to NOT SAY ANYTHING in the forums or reddit of all places before clearing it through them.

What are you doing to rectify his RL smear. I feel you as CCP have created this massive fiasco and great you can fix his in game problem but search Brian Schoeneman and you still see lobbyists corruption news feeds. Are you working with the media and PR team to help him clear his name. This has RL ramifications for him.

You know who we haven’t heard from yet? The CSM.
The same CSM who leveled the charges in the first place, who had a member come out and voice his approval of banning Brisc, Dark, and Pando, and the same CSM who has all but disappeared and remained silent through the whole affair. Where is their statement, whether following the initial announcement or now?
Sure, the same group of null bloc entities will elect their mouthpieces and flood the next CSM with players pushing their priorities; it will be tough to stop them. However, CSM 13 needs to come forth and offer their official statement and explain their past actions in the whole affair. CCP has greatly damaged their reputation and trust with what has happened, but so has the CSM.
The one guy on the CSM who at least reached out and communicated to us unwashed masses is now gone; how about the rest of you stepping up explaining your actions and lack of statements.
…or are you going to remain your normal noncommunicative selves?

CCP- Brisc Rubal has been removed from the CSM and given a lifetime ban for breaking the NDA.
Players- Ah ha, this is proof that CSM does nothing other than allow dominant nullblocs to lobby for their style of play and for scumbags to exploit insider information. The CSM must be disbanded.
CCP- We have reversed our decision concerning Brisc Rubal, Dark Shines, and Pando.
Players- Our faith in CCP has been irrevocably destroyed. All bans are now suspect. CCP must be disbanded.
