What I find extraordinary here is the contradiction between CCP’s original statement (since deleted, I presume that was a demand by Brisc Rubal’s meatspace lawyers?) that information leading to the banning of Brisc Rubal came from other members of the CSM, and the final apology by CCP
“for not collaborating with due care with the members of CSM 13, who have acted responsibly throughout.”
How can some other CSM members have wrongly tipped off CCP and at the same time acted responsibly throughout? There needs to be a bit more “responsible” double-checking of claims before CSM members accuse each other of bannable offences. And also before CCP acts - apparently summarily - on claims of bannable offences. If something like this can happen to someone with the in-game standing of a CSM member and who is able to bring considerable real-life resources to bear on a situation like this, what recourse do middling players have?
We’ve notified all the media outlets that had already approached us with follow-up questions based on last week’s interim statement, as well as directing those that had published articles about Brisc over the last few weeks to the new statement.
I wonder if for “normal” players this kind of review would ever happen. And i have to serious doubt it. If CCP blunders in such a high profile case how often do they blunder and hitting the normal paying player?
After reviewing our assessment of the information on which these allegations were based and having spoken repeatedly with everyone involved, it’s now clear that our initial actions were based on unsubstantiated assumptions.
We will work to set this right and will be making changes to our procedures and policies to ensure this kind of situation does not reoccur.
Lastly, we owe our sincere apology to the EVE community for this error. We take full responsibility for any confusion and mistrust caused by our initial assessment of the situation.
Wow, talk about losing face with your customers. Doesn’t matter how much recompense is done, the damage is still done and this whole issue will not be soon forgotten.
I’m glad that Brisc and the others were found to be innocent and their account status reverted back to how it was before.
Not only did you harm the integrity of an active CSM member and chased him away, you also alienated the playerbase with your rash decision and knee-jerk reaction to the entire situation.
It will be extremely hard to believe any official statements from CCP ever again.
punishment first was a mistake, you punished Brisc on false accusations without much of an investigation, though I am glad that you admitted you were wrong and you are willing to make things right, there are plenty of companies that would just bury something like this and pretend it never happened.
This is epicly pathetic CCP. I saw many many MANY misstakes from you people, but this is the most epicly worst. You either sit up for a rumor, and without any investigation somebody had the power to ban 3 people, and declare that one of them broke a real life legal agreement, or you was only chicken to do it against a lawyer. Both thing is horrible. Both thing means that if somebody without a name got banned, he will be banned. The 1st means that you guys bann people without enough evidence (and yet we full of bots). The second is that if somebody loud enough, then he can do anything.
And it is really pretty that you took the full responsible for it. This is something like your answers when the support not help at all. Nothing will happens from it, and the damage is already done.
It is definitely possible. But if that is the case it also makes them look even dumber, because they knew they were damaging a public figure, and should have expected he would not just roll over and play dead.
Maybe as in any normal company and country they should have been assumed innocent until proven guilty or not. Maybe suspended until the investigation has been done. But well done CCP for doing the investigation and admitting you were wrong
