Maybe because Mythic spewed the same sort of long term thing every time they posted. I grant it’s a tad on the pessimistic side, but hey, I’m a bittervet. I’ve seen way too many of the grand plans and claims of CCP devs turn out to be hot air to cover up that things are less than stellar behind the scenes.
Jenn, you’ve been throwing shade on WIS since they announced it, IIRC. How about they take away the next lowest player activity: PvP? How will you like that? I’m sure they could save MAD manhours not having to worry about re-balancing things all the time.
i demand CCP to rebalance all rookie ships. when last have they been looked at for a buff
This one was part-developed but looked well worth it
[edit: As opposed to the AFK ratting gameplay, at least this would have had more chat. edit2: PvP was working as intended edit3: Which means people were complaining about the already resolved rock/paper/scissors / fleetfit / scrubfit and wanted different tactics developed by CCP, like fostering resentment]
Actually I think not too long ago, few years at most? Which by CCP standards is pretty recently.
As i’m only a part time PVPr, I say go for it, I kill rats for fun in EVE (pvp happens when someone tries to make me stop killing Guristas lol).
PVP has nothing to do with anything though, it’s not like CCP is ditching a full feature, they are getting rid of the last vestiges of a failed plan they abandoned fully 5 years ago. And good riddance to bad rubbish.
Monty Python said it best:
WiS is not pinin’! WiS passed on! These Captain’s quarters are no more! It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet 'is maker! It’s a stiff! Bereft of life, It rests in peace! If CCP hadn’t let it go on for so long , It’d be pushing up the daisies! It’s metabolic processes are now ‘istory! It’s off the twig! WiS has kicked the bucket, It’s shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-GAME FEATURE!!
I think its safe to say that WIS was a big miss. At least they waited until July to say it since June was a Rough Month and God dam June
give me back all my plex I’ve spent on apparel if you dont want to do your job.
btw, I have an idea how you can save even more expensive resources: remove stars, remove explosions, remove rocks and dust (actually, you had better rework 5\10 exp space, you can really get blind here cuz of this annoying dust!) remove ships (oh, wait, you won’t be able to sell SKINs ), remove drones (why haven’t you make drone SKINs yet?) and capsuleers will fly using only overview. it’s quite convenient.
reasonable decissions! Especcially if you knew the underlying technologies. Nevertheless sad to see that the life of a capsuleer is now tied to the pod again and the pod only. The idea was not bad at all, only the implementation was utterly poor. I hope for a brave and successful new project in the mid term future that releases us from the pods again and opens the DOOR to totally new meaningful gaming experience. For the time being, good call on releasing the incarna ressources for space ship development. Rather improve the main game and wait for some CCPers who spent the off-duty work time on proper game design and prototypes for a WIS type game experience that player actually enjoy.
Oooohhhhh, you bring up a GREAT point!
Clothes, Tattoos, Amputation Appliances () and MONEY !
So upgrade CQ. Don´t remove and upgrade… Add activities. Let there be what to do…
Or make it as a separate application. Just don´t remove…
I’m waiting for the day CCP will take some SKINs out of the game, because they don’t sell good enough and CCP doesn’t has the ressources anymore to rework them too after some ship model improvements.
"We are happy to announce that the May 2019 release will be deployed during an extended downtime on Tuesday, May 14th. This update includes beside hull fixes and an overhaul of all eight Marauder models also their brand new self destruction animations.
Ongoing maintenance for the 97 Marauder SKINs currently takes around 2-3 sprints, or 4-6 weeks of development and art work each year for Team Fancy Nancy, the SKIN team in house here at CCP Iceland.
After reviewing the purchase statistics for the Marauder SKINS, we can see that the development time involved in maintaining the current state of this feature is significantly disproportionate to the number of pilots using these Skins.
With the May release we will therefore take down all existing Marauder SKINs and stop selling them one week before deployment on May 14th.
With the freed resources we will continue improving the new honk sound effects for your ship. Soon available for Gold PLEX in your new New Eden Store with the June release.
Check out the new New Eden Store for further details on these amazing sounds and more offers. Make sure to always have sufficient Gold PLEX in your vault!"
Well, it was fun while it lasted I guess.
Sad but this is why Eve is and will remain very much a niche game that appeals to and attracts only a very small range of the MMO player base. I suppose that CCP can make money by continuing to cater to the current player base but at some point I imagine that the investors would like to see the company expand and make even more by growing Eve’s current subscribers (via adding something new and exciting) or developing new products.
Unfortunately I don’t see CCP doing either of those things while in their current mode of retrenchment, aka “focusing on core game play”.
I’m really sad about the removal of the captains quarters instead of making it something that has a purpose (even if it is as little as showing your character to others in the same station/citadel while walking around in a bar or so…).
I’m still amazed by the intense hostility of players against developing the feature, I guess the initial launch of it just hit too many people on the wrong foot and people understandably do not want to get forced into a feature they do not like - understandable, but that hostility killed the fun for the rest of us that actually like seeing their avatar somewhere.
The CQ being unavailable in citadels of course lead to it being used less and less, but claiming that is a good reason to remove it instead of making it available or finally upgrading it to a real WiS part is rather lame.
Holy crap, it’s been 7 years since Incarna went live? Well, I need to take some screenshots… Sometimes I like to write in-universe and I like to be as asset-accurate as I can.

new honk sound effects
Holy Priceless Collection of Amarr Religious Holoreels, that’s a goddamn good idea!
To hell with all that socialising stuff on stations! I want to kill you all with my spaceship!
But seriously, where is my honk?
Don’t you hate it too, when big freighters blocking the undock with their outrageous left and right turns, so the following ships have to take extreme evasive maneuvers to avoid collisions? Don’t you wish you could show them in such situations who has the biggest pe…persuasive argument in form of a big honk?
It could have different sounds and short melodies too!
Hell yeah, it’s a goddamn spaceship game! Give us our honks and the ability to walk through our ships! My male dancer is waiting for me in my … wait … walking in ships … it’s about spaceships … repairing my ship by my own in my … it’s a spaceship game … it has to be only about spaceships!
Walking into my engine room to make some adjustments to my honk, is pretty much about spacehips!
Don’t forget, spaceships are the core of the game, therefore more walking in spaceships with honks please!
I agree @CCP_Falcon then it may give better opportnities for expanding this feature later, better character re / customisation, it being able to customise your own ship skins here as well, add possabilities of captains quaters customisation, ie wall art desks themes ( i would prefer a office area) corp board room/ meeting area where corpies can meet and read messages and corp bulletins and notices on log on, widescreen tv to watch eve nt, industry or pi on , training skill queue access, lots of possibilities, but on reason mosts didn’t use it as it didn’t get developed further, but get the old code out, upgrade to 64 bit and redo it so it’s easier to maintain and upgrade and to add new features so we can use it more

more walking in spaceships with honks please!
That’s actually a pretty good idea. CCP can give up their WIS plans, so the “game has to be fixed faction” is happy. Every new in-game content will only be about ships, so the “everything has only to be about ships faction” is happy too. Also the old WIS faction will be happy, while standing on the bridge of their ship.
Looks pretty much like a win-win-win-situation to me.

We’re well aware that the fact it’s not being used is due to the fact that there’s been no feature development. On the flip side of the coin, there’s been no feature development on it because our players sent us a clear message that they wanted us focused on spaceships, so we invested more there.
The bottom line is Captains Quarters was never properly coded and quickly rushed in with a promise of future development just to facilitate Micro-transactions. As usual CCP quickly reneged on that promise and just concentrated on MT.
As for players sending a clear message, it wasn’t just about spaceships, it was actually about fixing all the bugs and half finished content within the game. Anyway that excuse was used right after The Infamous Summer Of Rage when CCP released the Crucible Trailer back in winter of 2011 : EVE Online: Crucible forges community feedback into a release filled with player-requested features and fixes. New battlecruisers, a massive graphics update, time dilation and an improved UI are just some of the 100 additions and improvements that have arrived November 2011 in EVE Online’s 15th free expansion.
Just exactly how much time do you guys need to focus / fix spaceships anyway?

Regardless of the reasoning behind the removal, the undeniable fact remains that if we WERE to do any development on Captain’s Quarters, we’d need to start the whole feature from scratch no matter what we wanted to do, so removing it makes total sense given that 1) there are no plans on the roadmap to do walking in stations feature development, and 2) its current state is holding us back from further visual development work.
Instead of all that whitewash, you could have simply just straight out said ‘There are no plans to do WiS Development’.
Removing the CQ because it’s holding back further visual development work? Work on what just exactly? For years now the CQ sure hasn’t stopped or slowed down any of the multiple graphic additions and iterations constantly being downloaded with each new game patch.
Anyway, as a bitter vet I call BS on everything. It appears to me all the constant content removal starting back with the Jukebox was simply to help facilitate server downsizing.
Hell, makes me wonder what type of new server CCP actually got. Even The Likes And Get Likes thread in the old forums caused undue stress on the server 3 times in a row.

On a Totally Related note:
We are capsuleers, we live in liquid filled capsules, why would i get out of it?
On the 3rd hand I need to get out sometimes because the urge to press the Big Red Button is overwhelming!
When docked I just sit in my ship with my 8-track anyway.
