Devblog: Preparing For The Future – Retirement Of Captain’s Quarters & Twitch Integration

"Hi CCP and fellow EVE players:

I have played EVE Online for a long time (read 10 years), I remember being very exited about Incarna, of which the first step was CQ.

The promise of Incarna held a specific experience, imagine a mission or ops where a wing of pilots had to fight in space whilst a part of the team had to shoot their way inside the enemy base to the objective…

Incarna was a big step in the game since it would have brought us fidelity, made our characters real and bring us a RP and in depth look at the long and silent world of being a Capsuleer.

At the same time Incarna released we objected against micro transactions (MT) , which is a full service now (and not as objectionable as I initially thought), - but if memory serves due to the march against MT, Incarna was cancelled too.I thought it a brilliant strategy on CCP’s side to manipulate our needs, but that is old news now.

We loved the game so much we let that slide. CQ remained and it would have been revisited at a later time to be a full mechanic in our game-play, open a new world and potentially tie in to Dust in some way.

(OMG forgot the epic failure of DUST 514 there for a second, lol - if it had only been on PC I would have subbed it - ok, anyway moving along)

Ok, so this is my take:

3% doesn’t matter, really ok then, point taken -(I guess my small contribution to the game will go unnoticed then) - No expansion or additions will of course result in a death of feature, it was suppose to function but didn’t.

We bought millions in apparel with no real value, the reason I bought it was there was a promise made that it will be applicable, I mean CQ was there!?. Ok so I think its time to move to games that offer real better services and deliver on promises, even if I love the EVE universe, IT IS CLEAR THE FEATURES THAT WAS PROMISED WILL NOT HAPPEN.

EVE ONLINE could have been a full 3rd-person fidelity experience, since the space part is awesome tbh, but I guess that is over now. maybe someone out there will develop a game for us that has the features we wanted…

Anyway in the interim,

I recommend that it is better to move to games such as Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous that will in a short amount of time actually deliver on their product, (albeit it takes a bit of work to develop) but has both the fidelity and quality of gaming one could expect.

Ad Astra

I’m actually okay with removal of clothing

Instead of retiring CQ to work on 64 bit; may I interest CCP to fix skill training issues that are being reported. Literally terrified of logging in! Terrified of losing legitimate skill-points I trained for and paid for.

It generally seems we get a half baked idea and solution to problems or… i.e. when we first got CQ something not really good for it was not even half baked with only the Minimatar Janitor closet on release… or Twitch… (never figured out that one!

Starting to feel like you guys say one thing and do another; case in point, ‘Ghost Training’. Even against legitimate means.

CCP falcon, Eve needs character immerson for players to better bond with the game and their account. CCP ghost has the right idea, but bonding with a ship/pod isn’t going to happen for most people. A character on the other hand works. Never forget that. Eve is really missing WIS whether the player base knows it or not. It would greatly encourage player interaction for players that currently don’t go looking for it. I can ignore all those ships flying past me but someone waving at me is much harder. Ever wondered why so many people play solo in eve?
Apart from this, consider those large null sec battles. Are they really killing eve? Many players feel like they aren’t an individual anymore. Just a cog in the wheel that has to follow the boss. More like an unenjoyable job… Eve needs to encourage smaller gang fights again, make the average player feel like they make a difference and have choices. Not the instapop battles that decide the null sec games. Fight or flight. Where is the fun for the average player in Eve today? Make FCs running large gangs, spread out their damage by making each additional attacker do less damage on a single target. Maybe calculate the number of people attacking/repping a target and limit the damage/benefits that occur on that target. Same technique you use on fitting modules to a ship. limited returns… It seems to work. This at least would allow small coordinated gangs to kill targets in these large battles instead of always running (i.e limited repping to the target they are attacking) Plus ships would not be instantly popped. It would encourage larger alliances to have more FC’s in a battle with separate wings. More emergent game play with more battles going on and the battle spread out. It might even lessen the lag. It would definitely increase the enjoyment.

RIGHT! But once again I guess someone has been changing the ‘Logs’, about what are issue was. …Or never understood in the first place.

By removing CQ Yahtzee’s comment from 1 minute and 39 seconds on (till 1m54s) becomes even more accurate then it was then… :frowning: Shame…

So, who is willing to buy Clothes if we can’t even properly see it anywhere? I’d suggest a boycott on the clothes department, but I guess that will happen anyway… players ar good at min-maxing and I don’t think Apparel will be above 3% anytime soon

The timing of the original announcement and release made it clear that the purpose of CQ/Incarna was to prototype the WoD MMO’s engine.

Ever since CCP declared that project dead and sold off the WoD IP rights, the writing’s been on the wall for the death of CQ.

I don´t think it makes any sense at all. CCP said we will remove CQ in August and it will be, whether we like it or not.
I like CQ and I use it almost all the time. Even in null, I had to move to the outpost where I can use CQ.
After deleting CQ, EVE will be again just a “spaceship game” and I’m not sure if I still want to pay it. And the alpha acc is bad. So goodbye EVE, welcome “spaceship game” where is nothing what to do with my character that I created.

Well if we’re going to use stats to justify the removal of features.

What percentage of players participate in sov space? What about planetary interaction? I’m pretty sure that the number of players involved in booster production is pretty small.

The future vision for EVE has become so small and without ambition.

My money is on PI also being removed at some point. Another feature that gets a lot of requests for improvements yet never receives any.

Old code, probably takes effort to maintain, and verging on passive income that is not “spaceship” enough.

From what we have seen so far, all the prerequisites for removal.

Good move. No need to waste so much dev time on this feature.

I hope Project Nova doesn’t get canned. I hope PI stays in the game.

At the very least Dev sarcasm isn’t canned.

and sadly even in 2017 it still is since they are canceling it…
(better improve ship’s explosion that you will never see  )

There are ship explosions? All I ever see is a flash, a notice that I’m in a pod and from time to time I find myself back in a station.

If PI goes the whole production chain and R&D will collapse. Then CCP will achieve the game they’ve wanted all along.

Pure space pew pew, 24-7 (with no depth)

Good riddance.

I agree, especially regarding more wing level control, and it is eve players that need to take this up, small gangs are ysed in some little ways but this is where small corps can specialise but it’s all too hard for the bigger corps as their not interested in small corps joining, not starting a flame war, but that is the honest response i have gotten so far, i know i have to find an alliance that wants small corps and are out there, and maybe that is more that should be developed especially for new alphas with frigates, lol just maybe have tons of spare ships! I would like to see some numbers on eg no of t1 frigates to nail a t2 cruiser, basic comparision table using fairly std or even pve fits, as that chart may encourage some pve players that they can fleet up at wing leader level and go after something other than rats or help a indy corp securing mining fleets. I know.some already do this , but i think its rarely seen

Oh no! What will CCP ever do without those 2 little subs?! God have mercy!

No it doesn’t meet all the prereqs for removal.

First off PI provides materials that are essential for construction of most structures including Citadels. Customs offices provide the main point of conflict because they are the gateway to the resources needed.

As for the code, we don’t know what problems the old code has for PI and what the implications of those problems bring. As far we know, CCP hasn’t mentioned what are the major problems so far with PI and they have the metrics to determine that.

The likely outcome is not removal but rather a major overhaul like what’s happening now with moon mining. Moon mining use to be a passive source but now it’s becoming an active source. Planetary Interaction was slated to be somewhat active with the complete unification of Eve Online with Dust 514 but of course Dust 514 was shutdown shortly after release and is instead being replaced with Project Nova.

Turning PI into an active source like how Moon Mining is becoming is going to be tricky because of the unique characteristics with PI. For one, PI doesn’t have the same level of restrictions that Moon Mining has right now. You can setup a colony anywhere (from nullsec to highsec) without having to periodically pay for any bills to keep them active. You don’t need a player-run corporation or any director roles to setup a PI colony. And a war declaration against your corp will not hinder the operations or safety of your colonies.

So yeah, removal is not likely but an overhaul is more likely.

EDIT:

And a second thing about PI is that it may still become an active source through Project Nova if it ever gets to that point but I don’t see that happening for years. It took Moon Mining many years before CCP ever decided to overhaul it. We’re not likely to see such an overhaul for PI for years to come.
