Billy McCandless on drinking the kool aid and why its better with antifreeze.

My Polaris Enigma is called “[CCP] Falcon’s Ride”.

In game, I have a super strict naming convention for all my hulls, but that’s a secret :stuck_out_tongue:

All my ships have a prefix with 3 letters ( that shall remain secret) and then depending on the hull a word that may or may not be related with what the ship does like an Astero I call it Spectre ( Its white and becomes invisible lol) bigger combat ships like battlecruisers and up have two words that don’t mean anything together (Like Jaegers from Pacific Rim… the good one) example: Vindicators are called Diablo Interdictor… non combat ships have other themes but following most of those rules… All identical hulls have the same name except if the purpose and fit of the ship is too different. On my faction warfare character I use the official prefix from the Imperial Navy (TES Something ) cause… Amarr Victor!!!

yeah I’m weird… I carefully choose the name of most things I have including computers and servers =P why not apply to ships?

I prefix my non-combat ships (freighters, blockade runners, bridge blops, …) with GFC and my combat ships with GFM (Gorp Fleet Carebear, Gorp Fleet Military :joy:).

The actual ship names are mostly after Celtic and Old Norse mythology, with some EVE fiction sprinkled in to spice it up… I hope me ancient ancestors are proud of me for upholding their believes!

A weird mix of fun- and trollnames as well as 40k-pseudo-latin.

I like abstract words that start with S

Skylark
Sundance
Starskeen

etcetc

But I also go after names that have some history, mythology, or feeling to them

Argo
Zephyrus
Gunslinger

for example.

I named my BNI “Force Rain” because I think it sounds cool, and it somewhat describes its capabilities. No real convention, I just go by how I feel about any ship after it’s fully fitted…

I try to give each of my ships a unique name, which is pretty hard considering the amount of ships I’ve lost over the last 5 years. I eventually try to find some kind of cool sounding list of names that resonates with the ship.

Caldari ships are easy, as they are all mostly named after birds, so I use various latin genus/species name for that bird. For example, for the heron I would go through:

I name all of my ships with names from the Freespace games. I first give my ships a prefix based on the ship type, a frigate for example would have the prefix GTF, while a cruiser would have GTC. After the prefix I give the ship a name that I think fits it best from the Freespace games.

A few examples:

I typically have a strict policy about not naming ships after things that have sunk or exploded.

However, I’ve named my two Rorquals the “Ishimura” and the “Nostromo.”

Maybe I’m just asking for it.

All my ship names must either have letters and/or numbers in them.

I usually name them something related to their function (Liebher) for an ore hauler, yautja (name of the ‘predator’ alien species) for a PvP stealth bomber or “spectre” for a gunship/structure bombing stealth bomber. Other ships like miners I just name after the system they belong in.

i tend to have some recurring themes depending on the empire, its usually names only:

-Caldari -> japanese names
-Gallente -> french names
-Minmatar -> south american deities and mythical characters

-Amarr -> nothing yet, im currently trying to find a cool thematic for them so for now i just use names of locations i like from my home city. using saint names was planned at some point but i thought it was too predictable and generic for this faction.

i dont fly faction ships yet, probably will have to find a thematic for them too.

Back in the days of years yonder …

I used to name my ships after famous bimbos. No really, I did. Not pornstars, bimbos, there is a difference though the 2 are not necessarily exclusive as many of them dabble in pron so it overlaps a bit.

Usually, the fatter (more expensive) the ship was, the bigger bimbo name it would get, then I would scale it down for the smaller ones.

I actually name them the same as exploded. :joy:

I actually use Pirate name for my ships, one different for each alt. And depending of the Tech level, the name change, and each of my character use the naming convention of the pirates in their original empire, Sasha use Angel Cartel’s name.

Example :
My Caldari alt have a Dire Pithum Gila, Sasha Viderzei have an Arch Gistii Probe (Cheetah), etc…

inb4 some snowflake reports you for “impersonating” NPC rats and demands reimbursement. :stuck_out_tongue:

One of my VNI is named Guardian-Vexor, I’m going to get a big fee for impersonating such juicy target ^^

Try arabic or egytian myths.

I like to name my ships after newbie ships…
