Doctor Who event

So maybe instead of arguing about the root cause of this downward spiral of EVE online (of which we clearly won’t agree), we could possibly agree and focus on the absurdity of the Dr Who event?

Your OP mentioned how “CCP were testing the waters” and how good “OG CCP” were, which linked nicely to what I believe to be the root cause as we discussed above.

Figured it was fine to start discussing that here, since there is another, more popular thread if I wanted to just go “Well, this event sucks…”

Dr Who, never thought Eve would advertise the BBC, will I need a TV licence to access the new content or is it going to be a free affair. Someone has to make some money from this, just a heads up CCP. Dr Who does not stay in the Tardis so will he/she/it be walking in stations lol.

CCP are testing the waters for in-game advertising. Old school CCP were not perfect but they were pretty good and kept the game solid for years in my opinion. There’s not much more to discuss on this.

All I remember about “Daleks” were that they were poorly constructed robot-looking aliens that would occasionally bump into things on the set of the show. Won’t we have to enable “walking in stations” to combat this menace?

Yep that’s about the gist of it. They also can’t climb down stairs but apparently are capable of highly advanced space travel and combat.

Can we get the Dr Who theme as login music?

This could be part of a major decision by the BBC. It might be time to end the long lasting Dr Who franchise, and they decided the best way to do it would be to teleport the good doctor to EVE Online, where his little box will get blasted. The end.

IF the plethora of various long-term issues with the core gameplay of EVE was also being worked on (you know, Faction Warfare, the entire Missions mechanic, Battleship rebalancing, more Epic Arcs and Pochven/Incursions storylines moving on), then I’d not care about TV crossovers.

But they’re not being worked on.

As in 2011, the core gameplay of EVE Online is being ignored in favour of various balls that has nothing to do with EVE.
NFTs, Dr Who, e-mailing people who quit years ago and begging for them to spend $200 on skillpoint packs…
CCP have completely lost the plot.

i’m worried! do we see soon Coca Cola ads in the game?

What scares me the most is the fact they don’t realise Doctor Who is at its lowest point since 1963.
Its absolutely crazy to connect EVE online and the DrWho univerces. Despicable

Huh. Its almost companies need to make money to continue operating. Such a strange concept.

Mm. You should apply  I’m sure your vision would help guide CCP down the right path.

ROFL. Yea but the OG dude is back to run the show. Although he’ll have a lot of retconning or fixing to do. The Timeless Child storyline really threw everything for a loop.

Let’s be fair there’s Star Trek Discovery and Picard so at most second or third worst. :stuck_out_tongue:

Huh. It’s almost like EVE Online made enough money to operate since 2003 without pushing in-game advertising.

I quite liked Discovery Season 1 & 2 but season 3…my god…that was bad. I still haven’t seen Picard but I can’t imagine hating anything with Patrick Stewart in.

You realize business models and times have changed since 2003 right? There is a reason why PA got involved.

Please learn to EVE and apparently take a business class

In actuality, blame your fellow gamers. Gamers have created this “hell” that you are now living in.

i went to bed yesterday hoping for something good. now i’m considering winning eve again…

Understandable my chap. The best way to win is also to pass along your stuff as not to be tempted back. You can definitely give it to me for safe keeping.

You’re quite right - gamers have indeed created this hell. On that we 100% agree. Yet, ironically, here you are defending the very nonsense you claim to call hell rather than protesting it. It’s actually people like you who have empowered companies like EA, Ubisoft, CCP et al to create an environment of greed rather than profit. By saying this was necessary to keep EVE operating just gives them more excuses to release total crap like this rather than expand the game with consistent and well received content. By all means continue to make patronising comments about business classes but keep in mind that all the while, the game we all love is rolling down a pretty sh*tty hill and alienating an already (paying) player base.

Someone else used the word “tacky”. Fits.

This is absolutely true. But, in the long run, it is in exchange for something that people value that they give you your profit. When the value of your product goes down, people find other uses for the money.

For me, the always newer, better gobbeldy goop thrown in just ruins what I’ve learned and invested in. The best new things in Eve, I think, are the new scams, pvp, group techniques, and applications of existing things that Eve players come up with. But I’m just one person.
