I absolutely believe that you don’t. I won’t trash hisec ganking, knock yourself out. But if that is your game play, it is likely that you don’t know why people with different play styles are annoyed that effort goes into events like this when there are significant issues with multiple playstyles that go unaddressed and have for years. Nobody really cares about this dumb event, but many care that time and effort went into it to the detriment of other long overdue corrections.

I’m glad you guys are excited for this - great. Doesn’t mean that others share your joy or should feel as though they can’t speak their mind.

I’m not a Whovian, though I’m not anti-Whovian, either. While this crossover doesn’t really make sense to me because it’s never been established they’re in the same universe, I don’t really care if EVE does a Dr. Who event. It’s not going to end the world or end the game, and if I can get something valuable (in terms of ISK or just “the cool factor”), then okay.

If CCP were to announce that EVE is now a Dr. Who game from this point forward and everything was retconned to fit with the Who lore, then I’d have an issue, only because that’d be like taking the Star Trek franchise and retconning it so it becomes part of the Star Wars franchise. As long as they aren’t doing something that extreme, I’m okay with one-off events like this.

My knee jerk reaction is to agree, but on second thought, I might be ok with this if it meant aborting this NFT nonsense, and end to trash daily login “rewards” and less obnoxious marketing / NES tie in to game. I might actually really like it if it meant more investment for development as long as it stayed on billboards in game as they are presently configured. I generally ignore them anyway and have no memory for what i’ve seen on the bill boards in game, lol.

Just went to the doctor who sub Reddit to see if anyone there actually looked to start playing Eve. There are already Eve players in the sub telling folks to stay away from Eve because the player base here hates this event and will be toxic. You guys are doing the lord’s work. Keep all new players for this event away and make them as unwelcome as possible. High sec gankers need to pull double shifts.

Maybe you’re just not seeing it this way (yet), but these events (and not just this event, but events stretching back to when reward queues became a thing) have the effect of chipping away at player agency, which is in fact why many people are upset.

Case in point: the outcome of the Triglavian invasion was in large part predetermined. Another example is how the gate to Stain was built without any genuine player input. And there was that mining event a few months ago where CCP pretty much explicitly threatened to punish anyone who interfered with event runners in a PvP manner.

I would be careful about casting my lot with the makers today just because this specific event doesn’t upset you, because at some point in the future they might have another event, and that one might have some new and improved mechanics in it, such as the inability to attack other players, or the need to buy event-specific items directly from the cash shop, which are good examples of what certain casual demographics expect from their games today.

The betrayal you’ll feel when that happens will feel much worse than how good poking fun of the people who are upset by the Dr. Who thing feels today.

There’s a reason we protested CCP’s “$800 jeans” so many years ago, when the ostensibly rational reaction should’ve been to ignore it and just let people buy them if they wanted to, because it’s not really “your business” and you don’t have to “take part if you don’t enjoy it.”

Scarcity happened literally because people farmed to a crazy point. You also have to reflect on the longevity of the game and the impact of having everyone on one server.

all this crossover stuff is ruining games. check out “magic the gathering”. they are doing fortnite and streetfighter crossovers now and the community hates it. still they are in a better position than CCP is, because they have tenths of million of players (still growing), while EVE is on a declining position since a decade.

I mean hate is a strong word. The DnD set re-printed some cards I thought lost forever so there’s that. You also aren’t forced to buy the new cards if you don’t want to. My play group plays with the only two rules, besides the standard rules of course, no proxies and whatever you willing to pay to play with, you can. It isn’t unusual to see revised dual lands and Tolarians hitting the board. It also makes for interesting card combos.

Dr Who long since ceased to be sci-fi and became a wise-cracking comedy show. I got tired of the wisecracks literally every 10 seconds. It might have worked for Han Solo a few times in Star Wars, but it just got irritating in Dr Who. That level of jokes and puns means they no longer take their own ‘sci-fi’ show seriously.

Alas…the level of wisecracking has extended even into Lost In Space, Star Trek - Discovery, The Witcher, yada, yada…as if ’ we don’t do scary any more ’ has become the norm and someone has to be doing a joke every 10 seconds to placate the snowflakes.

At this rate, by the time they do finally release Half Life 3 we’ll be battling Teletubbies and My Little Pony and the end boss will be Mr Bean.

Mm for the Matt Smith era, definitely. I would say you might enjoy Capaldi’s run. Jokes still, but much more dry than Smith.

I also hold the heretical opinion that Capaldi has been the best Dr in recent times.

Dr Who became the worst culprit for this. It’s as if they are embarrassed about presenting a scary plot to the snowflakes and have to lighten it up every few minutes with puns and jokes. Star Trek has followed suit.

I do disagree with the retconn of the Time War. Not that I enjoy genocide of course, but it was such an essential part of who the Dr actually is. Honestly, I think the way back is to have them make a similar choice again. To be put in an impossible situation and choose the only slightly less terrible option. They’ve flirted with it in the past, but I think they gotta go full bore now.

Except that when Michael goes and does all the prior red angel incidents before jumping 800 years into the future…including somehow miraculously rescuing herself…they completely forget that originally the red angel had been revealed to be Michael’s mother. Not even the temporal police can sort that one out. I guess the audience were just not supposed to notice

Its why I’m generally not a fan of time travel unless strict rules are in place. The thing I do disagree with Who on, is that the rules of Time seem to be becoming bendy, which isn’t good.

It isn’t tho. Cause the whole point is that its voluntary. No one is forcing you to pay or to play. If you don’t like it, vote with your wallet and go.

For example, I used to play COD pretty regularly until the most recent adoption of the BP system and locking guns behind a paywall. Once that happened, I simply stopped playing. No dramatic posts on their forums or reddit. I simply stopped spending money on a game I no longer enjoyed.
