Since when did doing PvP in a PvP game constitute doing that ? It is tiresome seeing people who seem to think they are exempt from PvP and have some special ’ I just wanna chill out and look at the pretty rocks’ status.
A person cannot go out and mine the very ore that makes combat ships…and then whine when their ore comes back to haunt them in the form of half a dozen Catalysts !
I actually contacted support, introduced myself, described my EvE Online activities, and asked is it ok if I gank miners, specifically Highsec miners who apparently can’t defend themself, take all their stuff, and kill their friends.
CCP’s official response was, “We see no issue with that.”
I think you hit the nail right on the head. I do not believe anyone joins Eve just to mine…but they get stuck in that ‘career’ because they don’t have the gumption to engage in combat. Heck, I have seen it many times where corp chat has 300 people and a call for battle is made and only 100 show up in fleet despite people being promised a free ship and SRP and so on. They stand to lose absolutely nothing…yet they’d rather carry on mining.
Then they start to think they have some sort of God given right to ‘chill in space’…or watch Netflix AFK. And anyone who actually plays Eve as it is supposed to be played and attacks them is a ‘griefer’. This mentality is slowly destroying Eve.
If such people end up leaving Eve because they lost their 400K ISK Venture after 15 years of chilling to Netflix…then Aiko and her crew are doing Eve a favour. Long may those who should be playing Farmville instead be culled from the game.
I agree sometimes you just gotta do something else.
Ratting, Exploring, Pvp, Ganking there’s plenty. I do think lack of gumption plays a major part.
My personal preference is ice belts when I’m planning on having a few drinks and a couple doobie snacks goofing off and making isk. I’ve lost many an Ice Drone to that lol
I dread the idea of these intricate puzzle games while I’m faded not even gonna lie.
But it’s not hard to say oh wait these guys are bad news park your ship, clone jump elsewhere and start again.
I prefer heckling and making a new friend, gankers are super handy when you encounter pretentious jerk face miners in the belt trying to bully you.
@Aiko_Danuja
You monster you dare tell us CCP endorses pvp in a pvp game? And that as a Pirate Princess you emphasize taking there loot? That your not out there role playing a pirate but your living that honest to goodness pirate life?
I’m totally jealous, but I’m just going to feign being offended to virtue signal a little for that virtual clout.
Sasha. I know you know this… but for everyone else…Bumping is not as easy as it may seem…trying to hit a moving target with a fast ships is tough as hell…especially to do it consistently. It’s skill, no doubt
@Gloria_Exercitus you are 100% correct. This is exactly what the issue is.
But…there are ways for new-bros to do PvP without having to go to low or null…without having to join a large merc alliance or be targeted by one…without having to deal with structures, either bashing one or the logistics of owning one.
I do this for fun and new-bros who want to get into HS PvP, be it large scale or small scale can do it too.
You and a buddy make 2 corps.
Declare a mutual war against eachother
recruit people who want to play “blow up the ship”
end the war when you need a break
rinse and repeat
The benefit is you can have PvP without structures, completely free of war costs, immune to decs from others (as long as you don’t place a structure), control who and how many people are involved, and you don’t have to go to null or low if you don’t want.
It’s simple, you can have GF’s without interference from others, and take a break when you want. I do it all the time, in fact, new-bros or vets interested can hit me up in-game about it if they so choose.
The point being, there’s no excuse to falling into afk gameplay. Those who want to PvP can find a way to do it. Mining is crucial to the game, but it certainly isn’t all there is to it. Eve is a PvP game by nature. Find a way to enjoy it. If you are inherently risk averse, this isn’t the game for you.
Regardless, anyone who has been around, and many new-bros find out, PvP will eventually find you…like it or not. It’s best to be prepared and know what to do when it does.
It is also reducing server load, which means a significant cost reduction for CCP.
In that way, I am responsible for CCP’s financial success.
You all may only play EVE Online, because I am cutting the costs enough so that the game remains profitable.
A nice little “thank you” wouldn’t hurt, you know.
She’s mad because she wasn’t elected in the CSM. Proof of that is how much crap she gives Mike Azariah so she’s trying to get back at CCP by ganking players and trying to make them leave.
That is easily the most stupid thing I’ve read in a long time.
Aiko did not present herself as a CSM candidate (though I would wholeheartedly support her if she did). So, you’re wrong.
Our leader writes in direct fashion to and about many known carebears. Mike seems to take it in good part and can give as good as he gets in any case. Not an issue.
This is so unbelievably weak and preposterous that I’m surprised you read it over (you did check it, didn’t you?) and hit the ‘Reply’ button.
Aiko (and, before her, James) has been ganking players for years. Check zKill. How on earth is playing the game as CCP designed it a means to ‘get back at CCP’?
Aiko doesn’t care if players leave; I don’t care if players leave. It’s the responsibility of CCP to manage such matters, not the player base. You may not agree with their approach to retention, but it is always, ultimately, a matter for them.
There’s very little wrong with my reading comprehension, though you’ve probably guessed already that I’m going to have a little dig at yours.
To care about something implies that the subject regards the ‘something’ as important.
Nothing in Aiko’s comment, above, either states or implies that the driving out of players from EVE is important to her. It is simply a record of her view, devoid of heightened emotional language or any of the other signs of relational emphasis which might be expected from someone who ‘cares’ about a topic under discussion.
I support Aiko in all her endeavours, as I supported James 315 before her. And, yes, Aiko is most definitely a ‘she’, though you are within your rights to call a cauliflower a mountain goat, if that is your wish.
You may be smarter than me, but you are considerably less so than your grandiosity allows you to believe.
You seem surprised there are “shes” in Eve. You sure you’ve been around as long as you boast to have been? There are more “shes” and hers" in Eve that you apparently are aware of. There have been and are still many influential females in Eve. Some just don’t like to announce it to everyone for various reasons.
It always made me chuckle every time a female jumps onto coms and all the boys seem so surprised…as if it’s their first time. It’s cute really…
What…it can’t be a female that’s blapping half of Eve?
