Elite PvP vs Ganking

A nice point. Had I thought about it for longer, I might have used your proffered ‘elephant’ in place of ‘mountain goat’. It shares, with ‘cauliflower’, the two sounds ‘L’ and ‘F (PH)’ - and those sounds even occur in similar places. Too late, alas!

It’s in reference to something the Frostpacker said about Aiko that (among other similar behavior) lead to him being blocked by her. I let you discover the related posts to unlock the full potential of the hilarity of the situation (and to not ruin the meta joke any more).

You have officially piqued my curiosity… :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe (without having checked it, I confess) that he made a derogatory remark regarding her august appearance, using as a reference a term associated with a particular member of the group ‘Pachyderm’.

Outrageous, I know. But I’m sure our Princess has been called much worse by the mewling miners and haughty haulers of Highsec. In fact, I know that she has been thus horribly insulted.

However, Aiko rises above it all - and above us - with a serenity which, in her, is the perfect foil for that legendary toughness.

What a gal…!

I’m not sure of the relevance to what I said has any thing to do with whether I have or have not spoken to Aiko.

But… to humor you, I have spoken to many of Eve players throughout the history of the game in and out of the game. Some know who I am, my real name, what I look like, etc…most don’t…and vice-versa. Let’s just say my knowledge of many of the players, old and new, isn’t just limited to assumptions made through forum posts. Does that answer your question?

Yes. Your answer is no.

You could’ve saved yourself a lot of typing and the risk of looking purposely evasive…

Yes I have. I’m not obligated to answer to you, as you feel I am. If you actually read the reply, you’d realize that. Now stop trying to derail the thread and stay on topic.

I don’t imagine there is “elite” anything in a video game, @Afrodites
Gamers push buttons and slide a mouse. Monkeys have shown the same abilities in laboratories and lab rats have shown extraordinary cunning in finding a piece of cheese in a plastic labyrinth.
I guess it is all about ego as far as video game players go.

Now for the true Elites:

Navy Seals, Marines, Delta Force and French Foreign Legion. Those men are, in my opinion, the only ones who can call themselves elites.
Have a good day, Afrodites

Now with this, I agree with you. There is no true loss or threat of loss and therefore cannot be elite, unless one can be an elite button-pusher.

From the extensive amount that I’ve seen of ganking activity and chats and blogs and so on…most of the people who speak of leaving Eve as a result of ganking were not coping well with Eve in the first place.

Only last week I saw a year old player get leaving level riled over losing 3m ISK worth of Venture. Never mind that Ventures are free in missions…anyone who’s been in Eve an entire year and cannot cope with Venture level loss is wasting their time in Eve. I mean, in 3 years I’ve lost the cost of 1000 Ventures ( though I’ve killed 1000 times more than I’ve lost )…3 billion. That’s equivalent to losing a Venture every day.

Am I gonna leave as a result of such loss ? No…as the flip side is I’ve made almost 3 trillion in kills. Only a small portion of that got converted to loot and ISK in my acount but the net result is I’ve made 10 times more than I have lost.

So I have to ask…how does anyone mine for a whole year even in a Venture and not have enough to afford multiple new ones ? I mean, with a gaussian laser fitted Venture ( 400K ISK or so ) you can mine the cost of a replacement in a single trip.

That is the real issue. I was ganked early on in Eve and far from making me leave it spurred me on to success and more ISK and ships. I think Safety are simply culling the weak who were never going to make it anyway. Eve is not Teletubbie Land…it is supposed to be a harsh sink or swim environment.

I beg to differ. I’ve seen elite at various levels in Eve. I would not claim to be even remotely close to that level.

There are solo gankers outside Jita 4:4 who perform ganks where they single handedly scan a target, see its cargo, check its tank, lock on, and fire and then loot…all within seconds. Its amazing to watch ( which I do, as I suspect hunt outside Jita ).

Likewise there are solo killers in lowsec ( Kubinen in particular ) who have 10,000 kills…most of them solo. They have it down to a fine art and I encountered one such…though he did not destroy my ship as fortunately I knew the guy from a corp I was in with another alt.

Those are examples of elite play. Its a level I want to get to…and still have a way to go.

@Gloria_Exercitus We will have to agree to disagree.

Any game where you can participate in a fleet operation with one hand while eating a slice of pizza with the other is not remotely elite PVP.

Make the ships FPS on the other hand…

Which is precisely why I created Gloria…to get away from F1 monkey stuff and do my own thing.

FPS space games ? Yeah…look how well Boundary did.

Your days on this forum is numbered.

You need to stop faking yourself and come clean!

Time is shrinking .

Frostpacker will teach you what you seek.

I agree with you. And this whole thread is nonsense.

You forgot the Mossad and Shayatet,
Spetsnaz and Sweedish Special Forces.

Sometimes, the term ‘elite’ is used to differentiate between folks who undertake an activity or pursuit in a professional capacity and those who do not. Also, between those whose achievements are notable in some way - and those who have yet to reach the same level.

In EVE, there are certainly examples of the first type - gankers, etc., and also of the second.

Some commentors have illustrated their own understanding of ‘Elite’ (and compared it unfavourably with EVE elements) by citing sundry state military units. This is understandable, but narrow.

EVE’s elites have a lot in common with, perhaps, those of the sporting variety. Yes, they do destroy pixel-ships, but they do not necessarily all belong to teams of players. There are many solo, Elite PvP players - as @Gloria_Exercitus reminds us, especially in the field of surprise stealth attacks.

In the military, the wholly solo special forces operative is rather rare. A sniper might be a solo killer, but he is almost always supported by other colleagues.

But entertaining.

I forgot quite a few actually. My apologies to the Israeli, Russian and Nordic Alliance special forces elites, I love you men too  Stay safe and come back to us whole everytime.

If that’s what you want to call bragging…

I agree, they truly are awesome individuals, not like the braggarts on this forum who think that playing a video game makes them “elite”

Are you always this angry?
