Tbh the “missile capabilities” won’t be more than just have an option to fight back a single light tackler. I really can’t imagine it being able to even remotely compete with well-fitted Cruisersize ships. You simply won’t be able to hold it eternally with an disposable tackling-alt unless it’s more beefy than the standard throwaway Sabre.

If you give it “missile capabilities” you need to give it… missile slots which means you give it more high slots which then, to keep it balanced, need to come from low or mid slots. So either no one is ever going to use them because losing those slots makes it crap OR you get some sort of messed up cloaky with T2 resist and tackle, double cap booster and triple reps.
I am not a fan of doom-mongering, because mostly all those predicted op-broken scenarios either never happen or never last long before they are fixed again. I mean, we aren’t talking about 500dps HAM Haulers here that can tank forever via cargo-stored capboosters… not even CCP is that stupid.
I imagine an Impel with 3-4 more Highslots that you can fill with Rockets or Light missiles for example. Any cruiser can ignore that damage output forever. It’s too slow to keep tackle for long on anything that wants to leave. If you go Propmod+Capbooster to feed triplereps you can’t tackle. If you go tackle and capbooster you can’t follow anyone. If you fit scram/web you can’t feed triplereps.
The most hilarious scenario I can imagine for such a ship is warping on top of a Bastion-Marauder, apply Scram/Web and bricktank it while shooting the drones. But then you would still need a Fleet to bring it down and tbh a cheap Sacri would have done a better job.

The whole concept is flawed right from the get go, even thinking about creating haulers with a dps focus is silly so either it’s useless and a shitty gimmick OR it’s going to be worthwhile using because it’s lol worthy.
I disagree, I actually like the idea of (some) haulers having options to fight off light tackle. Currently its a 99% “you got tackled, you die” thingy (because they can simply keep you tackled forever and bring any alt or friend to finally take you down. Which is not really interesting gameplay.

No, not really. Maybe at initial implementation and by far not always. If it’s the case hen we will have to live with a few weeks or months of “disturbed balance” until they get nerfed down again. It is completely pointless to argue that the idea is destined to fail, because that really isn’t the case. It’s not a bad one and I even wish all DSTs and Freighters would have at least minimal Anti-Tackle options to force tacklers to either be on their toes (tank, movement, overheat, kill drones etc…) or bring in support in time instead of holding a point/scram forever until the killsquad is there while the haulerpilot cannot do more than spinning his helpless ship and enjoy smacktalk in local.
Are you ok with haulers losing capability in tank, cargo or mobility in order to gain combat capability?

They will automatically do so, because if you want to make any significant damage you will need to expend CPU and PG for the launchers, tackle mods, damage mods, application mods. Which means you automatically can fit less tank or cargo or agility. To use the cargobay advantage in capboosters to feet multi-reppers or shieldboost you will need to sacrifice meds for capbooster-modules for example. To fit reppers you will sacrifice lowslots. To fit shieldboosters you will need even more medslots. To fit damagemods you will need even more lowslots.
Can you outline a halfway realistic scenario you are so afraid of? I mean, whatever these things might be able to do combat-wise will always be cheaper done in a HAC or BC. Whatever the Cloakhauler might be able to do will always be cheaper done in a Recon or Stratios. Why do you imagine these things might even remotely be able to “break the game” in any way?
Personally there’s nothing I’m afraid of, it just seemed an odd thing to advertise missiles on a hauler as “a new dynamic”. So it’s likely just an awkward notion that won’t amount to much. Or it could turn out to be a balance issue. Or, it’s somewhat possible it could actually turn out to be something moderately interesting. But unfortunately the general expectation over the years has turned out to be that CCP is more likely to screw something new up than to implement it well at the start.

That took several YEARS and in the mean time the pvp landscape was fcked up.
If they add high slots for missiles they need to lose mid or low slots. If they increase capability for one thing they need to drop capability for other things, to keep it balanced. Ships don’t exist in a vacuum, you can’t just “add more stuff”.

The missile options are meaningless and don’t actually work in realistic scenarios, so you lose capability otherwise to gain things you have no use for. Which is a waste especially if they have to create a whole new ship line for it, time and effort that COULD have been used better.

That would be sad but not game breaking, so nothing to be afraid of. The time and resources already have been spent and it’s just not our decision how to spend them.
So you are afraid they put more DPS on a hauler than on a Stratios or Recon? Highly unlikely. Try to fit any Prorator for example for “combat” if you would imagine that thing having 4-5 rocket/light missile launcher slots. There isn’t any scenario where this thing could rival a real combat ship, especially looking at it’s price tag.
There is no way this will be balanced, it’s either wasted effort or OP. If it can’t fend off an attacker then there’s no point in the first place, if it CAN it means it gets silly. All the while being worse than other comparable ships for hauler related stats.
I just don’t understand why they put in the effort to add a whole new ship line to then do this.
Then if that is the case allow them to mount a weapon similar to the Lancer or a bomb launcher at least.

In case of moon mining why not reactivate old harvesting arrays then? We already have tools for passive moon mining, what for we need duplicates? New skin, but the mechanics are the same.

You could just think of them as cruisers with big cargo / ore bays.
I suspect these will be tied into Vanguard. You can either manually mine with Athanors and mining ships, or with these new moon mining drills and defend it with Vanguard clones.
I personally have no dog in this fight thats been going on in the last dozen or so posts but people have been screaming for Q ships for many years, so that CCP delivered on such an idea isnt so huge imo. Lets see what they deliver before we start crying ‘wolf’ all over again.
If this is the case then we could really be mining less in EveOnline and playing more in Vanguard.
