Yes but what ya gonna do about it?
The truth is yes its the model.
Is it a bit ■■■■ - yes.
Truth is if you don’t like it quit.
This is the same hard truth as the one CCP has to accept when some one says im never playing EVE with that being the case.
I know A lot, and i mean a lot of people who quit EVE because it is too much and that account requirements to be effective are a big big part of that. And tbh I and many others are often on the fence about it.
@OP Yes, it is pay-to-win. But to be frank it’s not going to change. CCP has made that pretty clear.
You’ll have to make up your mind if you can just deal with it or not. Personally I’ll never multibox, because I’d rather group up with other people to tackle …if you’ll excuse the pun… something I couldn’t solo, but I came to terms with it being a part of Eve years ago.
And I get that it chafes. Gaming should be about skill and working together, not just throwing more money to get an edge. That’s why p2w has such a bad name in gaming in general. But, as I said, it’s not going to change. You can still have fun in the game running only one character at a time. You’re not going to win over people who are entrenched in their opinion because they’ve come to accept the situation. Including myself, I just happen to agree with this point already but still have fun anyway.
Pay-to-Win is not, and never has been, used to refer to literally paying to win. It’s used to refer to games that allow you to pay for an advantage that others don’t get by paying the same amount.
If you’re multiboxing multiple paid accounts then you’re paying to have an advantage.
Whether or not you agree because some people can do it without money doesn’t mean paying for multiple accounts isn’t paying for an advantage.
That person who is earning their omega through work is putting far more time and effort into achieving what someone who is dropping tons of money into the game is.
Nice gaslighting mate. I never said I was upset. I literally said I came to terms with it ages ago and told the OP they could have fun without doing it.
I’m fine with it. I think it’s a bit sucky that it’s an option, but it doesn’t ruin my experience. That doesn’t take away from the fact that someone can literally come onto the game and drop a ton of money to be better than another player. Whether buying skill points directly from the store, or paying for a gabillion accounts.
A millionaire could be better at this game than I ever will be, purely by the virtue of spending more money if they wanted to.
This implies that EVE requires no player skill or knowledge, just skillpoints and ships.
I can assure you, this is not the case. Game knowledge and manual piloting skills are probably more important than skillpoints. Yes, skillpoints give advantage when all other things are equal. Player skill, understanding how tracking works, knowing which ships are capable of what nasty surprise can net you far more success in pvp than some extra skillpoints.
That knowledge can’t be bought, it must be earned.
I never implied that at all. You may have inferred that, but I am not implying that skill means nothing in any way, shape or form.
But the fact of the matter is that money and skill points do make a difference in this game. If I could clone myself and my clone won the lottery, then brought the same ship as me to a fight but multiboxes with 3 of them and finished up some of my skills, I’d kick my own ass. Purely by spending more money.
Edited that fairly heavily because it’s silly o’clock and I need to sleep. Sorry about that.
