I’m really excited to here the Mac native version is going to available to beta soon™. Any chance that CCP will copy the player database across to Singularity so that those of us suffering daily crashes on M1s can test them out?
@CCP_Caffeine Can you clarify on this a little with regards to impact for older versions of macOS:
OS Support
- We currently support macOS 10.15 (Catalina) & macOS 11 (Big Sur)
Will users with macOS earlier than 10.15 still be able to use the launcher to execute EVE in WINE to connect to Sisi?
I have held off on updating to 10.15 to retain access to a number of older games that are not capable of being run 10.15 and later versions of macOS, and it would be good to know if EVE has a ticking clock for me on getting a workaround in place to keep playing EVE.
Hi
For the playtest, there will be no option to launch the Wine client on Sisi via the launcher. Once we end the playtest, you will be able to use the Wine client again on Sisi.
Tranquility will remain unaffected by the playtest, and that will remain on the Wine client during this period.
We are currently investigating what it will take to support older macOS versions, but I can’t say for sure if this is possible yet.
Thank you. Bummer that I won’t be able to help out with the testing, but I look forward to y’alls getting more data to help development for a native client.

Hi
Without wanting to get hooked on the terminology; I’ve been careful not to call this a beta, as that has a specific meaning in software development. This is most definitely a ‘test’ to find the big issues at this stage
The database should be recent, although I don’t know the exact date it will be from right now.
What version are you currently running, out of curiosity?
Mojave, specifically 10.14.6 (18G8022). It’s the last OS version that retains compatibility with a number of Steam-launched games that aren’t 64-bit compatible, like Borderlands, as well as the launchers for other old-school games like Diablo II.
I’ve been looking at getting a PC tower set up for a bit anyway, just hoping to delay it a while for financial reasons.
By default, there is a minimum required download. Any additional assets that are needed will be downloaded in the background by the client using our ‘Download on Demand’ system.
You should be able to select a full download from within the launcher and have it work for the playtest. Please keep in mind that this will increase the install size of the EVE dramatically, as we are not migrating assets over from your current Wine install.
As to ‘if it matters’ - that’s difficult to say. DoD is quite robust as a system and has been used in EVE for many years. If you don’t normally choose to download the entire client for some reason, then you probably won’t need to for this test.
A complete download is very useful for people on slow connections and would like to download overnight, or if they are traveling and bandwidth caps / costs may apply.
when can we download? will this client interfere with a steam client? any special setup requirements?
Exciting! I can’t wait to test in two days.
If we treat this like a late Alpha early closed beta and expect most things to be broken and or wonky and keep logging back in when dumb things happen without getting frustrated we will help provide a ton of data for our hard working devs to make a great mac client. I’m saying this to myself more than anyone else who may read this post.
Just got the mail that this is going to be publicly tested in the next few days. Yesssssssss!!!
also, loads of log files from the console. All the data helps!
Sure Do a native mac Client… but not a native linux client i know more people that play EVE on Linux then do mac OS so really
please think of the kittens
@CCP_Caffeine Hullo again! Can you confirm if the current Sisi outage is due to prep for the upcoming test? No planned outage for today (April 14) was included in the announcement, nor a specific testing start time, so there is some confusion about Sisi being offline right now - when a fair number of folks are reasonably trying to set themselves up to be ready to test ahead of time (copyskills, plexing Omega, relocating assets, etc.)
Edit: looks like the outage is erratic.
Why not Vulkan as the API? Would improve Linux & Mac compatibility a ton. 2 birds with 1 stone.
I have switched to singularity (bottom right-hand corner dropdown), but when I click play it is still launching the Wine preloader. How do I get the new Mac client to launch?
you probably shouldn’t disclose your account name to public, makes you a target
