Not the worst Idea. Iv never done gas before
Want to add some feedback regarding one of the sites that I feel pretty well done. The Eastern Gate (Hacking Site).
CONS
- Depending on your expectations of how difficult a Christmas themed event should, this one can vary as a PRO or CON. Yet I must recognize the hacking difficulty is fairly brutal, requiring virtually topnotch hacking skills and mandatory hacking ship to have 110 Coherence and 40 Virus Strength to reliably hack the sites consistently. To be fair, I boosted mine with a rig to give me 120 Coherence, JUST to have that edge to succeed. The null-sec level difficulty is to be sure to exclude a good number of folks admittedly. So yes, a part of me wishes this one wasn’t so difficult so as to allow even alpha level players with alpha hacking skills the chance to solve these sites. And I say this knowing it might increase the competition towards getting those boxes in sites, especially since I do enjoy having the sites without being bothered… heheheheheheheh. But hey, even in PvE, some competition adds to the thrill of these events.
PROS

Good relock rate for the sites. Once it was fixed, admittedly I was worried the data boxes would be scarce, being limited to one site per constellation, yet fears were abated, and CCP pulled a good balance here. Plenty of sites with plenty of boxes to cater 4 players reliably, and still provide a bit of competition when there are about 5 players or more to actually race for the boxes (which it hardly fills up in my experience, but admittedly, I have not gone close to constellations such as Jita’s or Amarr’s to see). Good spawn rate, one that takes into account in at least catering to the population level of a constellation, well done here.

Good amount of rats. A good number that allows a solo player reliably fight off the rats and even tank it. I am speaking as a character that has combat skills topped to lvl 4’s and 5’s, but it actually feels fairly challenging yet not overwhelming when done, say in a Stratios. This one was good.

Fair amount of rewards. I am speaking from a subjective perspective, since I in particular prize Glacial Drift SKIN’s quite a lot. It can be frustrating when the box results empty, but thankfully, a SKIN shows up every 2-3 boxes reliably, with the consolation Agency booster to complement. If you value the Glacial Drift SKIN’s, this one is one where CCP did it well admittedly.
That’s my feedback on this site in particular, gonna see how the other two sites turn out. I for one though, am liking the Eastern Gate for sure though, and one that washed my distaste for the non-respawn fiasco of the first day.
Well done on this one CCP, by my reckoning, sites like this one feel like a good step towards the right direction.

I can’t seam to find much ‘Brainfreeze’ Cerebral Accelerators or Bps for them is there a drop chance issue with them?
So, for giggles and just to see what all the fuss is about, I took a low-skilled character in a Venture with something similar to an alpha fit to the site. Warped to the West gate to get a feel for the rats and what the mining was like.
The “Invisible Cloud” killed me while I was still in warp. I landed in a blinding sea of white in a capsule having gotten no warning and not having even arrived at the site.
Very uncool. I can’t believe that’s intentional. If it was, that’s going to upset a lot of people- dying before you even arrive at the site is just unacceptable, especially for new players (and I see that one of these is in Couster- a Career Agent System and has claimed several Ventures there). If it’s not, as others have mentioned, I’d move that towards the top of the “fix this ASAP” queue.
Based on everything I’ve read here, I’m not even going to bother with this event until some of these things get sorted. And that kills me, because I LOVE these events
Just my opinion but there was so many changes to eve in the last patch do you guys think maybe ccp ran out of time so had to push out this unfinished event ? kinda feels like its still in development stages to me.
Well at least bringing all these players together into the rooms mean some are going to leave me some very expensive stuff… like the couple geckos I just grabbed out of space. So that is fun. Also a T2 fit caracal can do any of the combat in this thing.
Has anyone seen a mordus transporter by the way? (another not spawning element I think)
I know the team has been stretched, and given that there are so many elements to this one (it’s really almost three different kinds of events within an Abysmal-esque environment) this seems to be an order of magnitude more complex to manage and deploy than previous events.
I’m all for experimentation- I really liked this year’s Crimson Harvest event- but adding more complexity seems to be adding more opportunity for things to go haywire (see the first couple of days of Crimson Harvest as an example). I’d trade some of the experimentation, complexity, and novelty for stability and functionality.
I’m not trying to be unduly harsh or negative here- I appreciate the team’s work on this, but I do hope that these issues get sorted for the event before it ends and that some analysis of what went south here are taken when developing the next one.
Man after reading a majority of this thread I think I’m just going to pass on this event all together and stick to jspace.

My God, CCP, would you please turn off the whiteout flash!? It’s hurting my eyes! I can’t even see my overview! I’ve got my monitor on lowest brightness possible and it’s still killing my eyes! The entire site is this awful all-white!

All my alts are Alpha with just under 5 mill SP and they all fly Gilas.
But it helps if from the start you know you want to train into a Gila.
CCP devteam seem to be going backwards with this event, I’d suggest getting rid of this team or at least sending them to the naughty step for some timeout.
My suggestion is that every can should spawn with something in it.
I have a cargo scanner fitted. When I left each group of four cans had three empty ones in each group. I imagine that if I had kept at it eventually all the cans would be empty.
BTW … The rats do very good dps and the cores are red.

So apparently putting the gas harvesters on a battleship doesn’t produce any gas in your cargohold.
Lemme guess - it only works on ships with an ore bay…he asks in his Machariel knowing a Venture can’t tank 2 cruisers and 4 frigates?

edit: tried another site today to see if there’s anything redeemable. left because the screen blinded me and physically harmed my eyes. i was squinting for 5+ minutes just trying to read my hud (white text on white background. nice design. well thought out).

my venture blew up on warp in to the west gate. cant get to my wreck
warped in my pve ship for the north gate. also took damage and dropped to half shields
idk what to say about that but i guess the event isnt worth doing unless u wanna lose ships on fly in before doing anything
I know this isn’t a bug report thread, but something I did notice is that the BPC (and subsequently the booster itself) for the standard boosters do not have the “limited” icon on their top-left corner. Fyi for any devs watching.
