Event Feedback - The Skilling Spree Returns!

Too many unsubs@blackout #metoo

So online count is needed =)

I would target lock a pirate for, fireworks, ammunition crate, accelerator, etc.

Why?
I mean, if we free ourselves from the context you closed yourself in that years of sub entitle someone for some kind of advantage, and look at it from the bird’s eye, why should SP take time to get?
We want more people in space? If the answer is no, go to sisi and rot there.
They probably also want to get in space, but they can’t, because they only have SP for corvettes, and unless you like curbstomping corvettes, that’s a bad thing.
So why should they not be able to get that sweet sweet SP and go out in a decent ship now instead of a year later?

That argument works both ways, they should also get some broken ■■■■ you abused the hell out of, which is now non-existent, like T3Cs in hisec plexes, old PLEX and mineral prices (once upon a time mining in hisec actually paid, you know), and so on. They don’t have that. Can you give it to them? If no, you have no moral basis to take what they have from them.

Hi,

just my point of view:

I like free skillpoints.

But now (like the first sklil spree) all i do in my limited playtime is login / undock / kill 1-10 npc dock / logoff because i want the skillpoints for a lot of alts. 90 % of my playtime i look at boring login windows and do not do any other thing.

i know thats my own fault but i think this event is not great at all and we had much better events in the past.

I’m an old player and I’m hardly pissed about a skilling spree. There are more game-endangering CCP moves to worry/forum rage about.

I just think it’s sad that CCP has gotten to the point that it has to bribe players to log in.

Why should new players have it free ?
They should spend years on subs and training like the rest of us did.

EVE switched to free to play so the servers wouldn’t be barren. It is a choice between there being EVE and there being no EVE. The events they are having are trying to encourage players to play the game, rather than stay logged off.

All those BITTER BITTER vets that just complain for a single reason : that they didn’t had something like free sp in THEIR noobtime and they had to train sp over time so they REALLY think nobody today should have free SP…

Sad sad bitter bitter veterans…

Like some of the old grandpas hanging out of the window yelling at the kids playing because said kids making “too much noise” while playing outside…

Sad sad vets…

Ok now this crap goes too far.

You don’t really think 10k sp would REALLY bribe someone who lost interest in the game to come back?

Are you REALLY that stupid or so desperate inside your bubble that you really think this is a valid “argument”?

Aww, did someone tread on your lawn, old-timer ?

Oh yeah

Apparently not desperate enough. I got nothing.

Well, if EVE isn’t economically viable we all lose everything. The Bittervets will think about about this game, which used to be cool. The new bros miss out on a vastly unique game. Lose lose lose. I trust that CCP has a better overview over their product than the consumers. Who can say otherwise, without hard sales numbers? If these events help to engage players, and yes of course lead to sales, they will continue. This of course leads to change, but when I leaned one thing in EVE, than to adapt.

Just use the agency to find a combat site. Done.

Can’t blame me for CCP’s decision that it needs your sub less than mine.

The problem with Skilling Spree is it’s simply not fun and doesn’t encourage any beneficial game-play. Effectively it creates a scratch-lotto effect where people rush to log into every single character they have to see if they have ‘won’ any of the best SP prizes. But the rushing out to claim does not encourage the players to go and have fun. If anything it becomes a chore to find the easiest rat(s) possible to kill just so you can get back to your primary character/game-play.

I agree the extra SP is necessary at this point. We had a rl mate join us and he was having a blast for the first few days. He was getting into new ships which he thought was super cool, but he was listening to us on comms talking about stuff he knew he wouldn’t be able to do for months. He wanted to join in. He tried to join in a few times and he barely escaped with his life. He simply logged off one day and never came back. When we asked why his response was he didn’t want to have to wait months to join us.

So it’s a problem. Both in new player retention and fairness to the vets. Honestly though I think the vets need to understand we need new players and anything that can be done to help retain them through the first few weeks is necessary.

I’d personally like to see Skilling Sprees morph from a gambling mechanic into a effort vs reward mechanic. Make it so you can earn up to X SP each day by killing rats. Everyone gets the same target. The reward per kill can scale down as characters get into new SP bands. This gives new players some excitement in both earning and spending new SP and the vets get to participate too albeit for lesser reward; since they don’t need it as much as a new-bro. I also don’t think it should be an event. Make it part of the game. Give new players a permanent leg up so they can get out here playing with the vets sooner.

While we are talking player retention. There’s a huge problem I’ve not seen discussed. It’s the sheer amount of time it takes to get into a Corp. It’s something we have created ourselves with the Spy game play and the API checks. My personal experience trying to get into Eve University (which is designed for the new bros) was a 2-3 week wait before I finally gave up. By that stage other mates had come back to the game and we were able to join up. Imagine that as a new player though. We the player-base need to help solve this problem imo.

I don’t know the answer. Because you know… spies… but it’s hurting the game.

My father finally feels like he has a reason to log in again. Because he can progress faster, instead of progressing AFK.

You raise many good points, but this one is a call for complexity that doesn’t matter toward the intent of this ultra-simple reward mechanic. On average, if a player logs in to shoot 1 NPC, “something else might happen.” They might stay longer than planned, and do some other thing. Statistically times the number of logins, it adds up to additional game activity for next to no investment on the company’s part.

I miss the engaging Crimson Harvest style of events which can have the effort vs reward you are looking for, but that costs extra compared to this flipping of a switch. Depending on how those events are structured, they might be a turn-off for some casual players looking for a quicker EVE fix.

Still, to be all-inclusive, I think Skilling Spree should be expanded to detect other activity like mining some trivial amount of ore, updating planetary production, or performing a market transaction. (The “my playstyle is excluded” argument was brought up in 2016 during the Thrill of the Hunt daily login event.)

Didn’t they basically admit in the minutes that so many changes at once made it hard to sort through the blackout/cyno change data? And now they’re inflating things yet again? I’m seriously worried for this company.

That’s because they don’t want to give discounts to people actually paying already. Instead, they’re doing basically permanent Omega deals that can only be used by alphas. There’s one at LEAST every other month, often up to 50% off. Its basically double as scummy because it doesn’t reward people that actually give them money already.
