Yes it’s childish to complain over free stuff because you as a player can’t commit just 1-2 minutes to get to the character screen.
That being said I don’t like this sort of chained reward thing dangling the only real reward after x days of consecutive login . It seems like a dirty move more akin to cheap mobile games than a subscription based MMO. And now that I mentioned subscription we’re a stupid bunch to accept skin micro transactions and have SP trading tied to micro transactions too when we pay a subscription already.
Before anyone says CCP needs moneh duh.Well CCP wasted and wastes alot of money still alot more than they should and that’s your money not going into EVE
I agree that the chained reward seemed to be in poor taste - but I pay for my subscription. If I plexed my account or had an alpha account, perhaps(?) I would feel differently. When I pay over a hundred bucks a year to play the game, I kinda feel like they should treat me more like an adult and just give me the stuff and let me deal with my sick kid, my work deadline, or whatever. If I am going to get ganked and have somebody take my stuff, please let it be after the sign in page,
Do you get a message announcing events? I only get messages from CCP about payments and such. I used to get e-mails, luring me back to the game if I took a break. They seem to not want me anymore.
I have not had “come back and see us” emails in quite a while on the accounts I let laps to alpha.
I think the issue is that since the introduction of alpha clones, identifying whom is really on a break and whom just went alpha would require some work.
Perhaps not a lot of work, but more than they think it’s worth, clearly.
And I think the big picture issue here is, they still suck at their jobs. 16 year later, and they can’t get ■■■■ right. This event isn’t the first time they’ve screwed up things that should have been simple. And there are going to be issues with the Invasion stuff coming up, guaranteed. Because they haven’t allowed any testing on Sisi to work out the bugs.
You’re right, there will always be a next time for them to screw something up, and then tell the players “sorry, not sorry”.
I don’t want to presume your knowledge of sportsball (in this case baseball), but you continue to bat until the third strike, and then your at-bat is done until you come back up in the rotation.
Similar to baseball, in this event you could miss two days of logging in (again, between downtimes) and still have enough (sixteen) logins to claim the ultimate reward. Miss three days, however, and you are stuck on the penultimate login reward, short of the one million skill point bonus that seems to be the sore spot.
So again, three strikes
There is an email address: eveonline@email.ccpgames.com that sends me periodic emails about EVE. I had categorized it as “not important” during the years that I was away from the game, so it went to a folder that I almost never look in. Now, since I have been back and my email autosort choice has cost me some stuff, I have changed that setting back and added that address as a contact.
My computer was also in the shop during half of the event, otherwise I probably would have been logging in enough to discover the prizes on my own.
So on May 6th I came back to eve after a break of almost 6 years, I didn’t know anything about any kind of event but I was pleasantly surprised to see all those upcoming rewards for me in the character screen.
I didn’t check how the reward system worked, I didn’t even see the final 1 mil SP gift at first but later I read about it in a reddit thread. I just assumed that I would get all of those rewards shown to me eventually and I continued happily playing, thinking about how to invest that SP, what a perfect gift for a returning player.
Yeah so then the event ended, I didn’t get the SP, wrote a ticket, got a mass reply and it was only then that I finally learned about how the reward mechanic worked for this event and that I never had any chance of getting those 1 mil SP.
You know in comics when people ride on donkeys, holding a carrot in front of the donkey with a fishing rod? Well I kind of feel like the donkey here, a little bit.
To make it short, my feedback is that this mechanic has the potential to be very frustrating. Also I don’t think the in-game explanation of how it worked wasn’t very clear. I could be mistaken though, I was excited about playing the game again, didn’t give the rewards window too much attention
Yes and no.
Yes, CCP sucks at fixing bugs.
No, this wasnt necessarily CCPs fault.
We had a guy come here a while ago, complaining how he died in Lowsec. He complained how bad the mechanics were, why he died, and that there was no warning.
We asked him, didnt he see a prompt that came up on screen before he entered Lowsec for the first time? And that it physically stopped his ship?
He said, yeah, he saw it, but didnt read it, and just closed it and went through anyways.
CCP could make it so that the game closes before you enter lowsec. So that the screen suddenly turns flashing red and saying “WARNING”. There are a million things they couldve done to prevent him.
But thats the problem with some people. Giving them the tools to realize whats going on, doesnt always work.
It is sad eve replied to all of us in a mass response. In this response they did not take any unique circumstances of real life events which prevented some of us from playing during their designated timeframe. That is Real life events that are not excuses. I think, deaths, family emergencies, car wrecks or hospitalization etc. should be considered. I have no pity for those players who did not log in, were on a break, playing other games, or were inactive. eve has been an active almost daily part of my life for over six years. I thought that the game I loved, played and paid real money for would be more caring for the individual player under unique circumstances. I find the mass email and their inability to consider real life events to be in extreme poor taste. I have really never asked for anything from eve before and this impersonal response to my unique situation from an active player has rubbed me wrong.
Problem is, once someone gets the rewards after claiming he had a real life, unavoidable event, everyone will claim it. Even if its a lie.
You say the mass response was in poor taste. How so? What if someone who was just lazy, and forgot, claimed his family member died(a complete lie) and couldnt log in to eve, and got the rewards? And what if you, who had a real life tragedy, was denied, because CCP found out that an increasing number of players were just flat out lying to get the reward, and they had to deny all future claims? How is that fair to you? How is that fair to anybody?
Real life, sometimes gets in the way of video games. And I think thats perfectly fine. Real life, should always take precedence over video games, and you shouldnt complain about it. Its real life, after all, and CCP cant be held responsible for what happens in your life.
The fair thing to do was to inform everyone, that those that didnt follow the rules, were not eligible for reward.
That is the fair thing to do.
I imagine there were at least 4 thousand support tickets sent in over this.
Can you imagine how upset you would be in six weeks, still waiting on your individually crafted response to your specific real world issue? How many people you think they have on staff at the support desk?
Unfortunately that is exactly what would happen. Once that door was cracked open, a bad situation would become exponentially worse
While I don’t feel strongly about it either way, I don’t disagree with you one bit.
To all of the ignorant folks that dont understand why people are angry. Ill try to use small words.
Why I missed the last reward. I was on vacation, it was a nice vacation. I knew about the event was was planning on missing it, NBD I have 150m sp on most of my main accounts. Three days into vacation I had some relax time by the pool and thought id check out Eve, it is an addiction after all. The character selection screen read 16 days left to collect rewards. Oh goodie I thought. Any person knows that 16 days to collect 16 rewards is still in the time frame. Logged on all the accounts day after day, not missing a single day. I couldn’t miss a day, need them all! Arrived home after vacation, it was a nice vacation, continued to log on every day. Near the end the screen read 2 days left, good, I have two rewards. The very next day it said less than one (11 hours maybe?). Clicked the penultimate reward and thus ending the event. Bottom line is CCP’s char selection screen was wrong, it was rounding up, while the event rounded down.
IDGAF about the SP TBH, I’m really bothered by CCPs error on the char selection screen along with thier BS petition response.
We understand why people are angry. We just think theyre being angry about something ridiculous.
There wasnt really an error. You had 2 days to redeem, you got 2 days to redeem. You get a day to redeem one gift.
Also, how was the petition response, BS?
leave it to eve to make a “good will gesture” and mess it up.
Did both of you (Solonius Rex & Scarlett LaBlanc) get your rewards for signing in each day?, did either of you truly have a heart stopping real world event, do you really get the issue with what happen to thousands of players based on the parameters CCP established ? Otherwise you cannot really understand the situation. Yes, I did have one and yes I am unhappy with CCP. So your comments are noted.
Solonius Rex you are right it is a game. You fail to realize that CCP established criteria for a game without considering the impact of real world events. You also directly go to the end state that people are dishonest and would look for loopholes by using a real world event to gain something they don’t deserve. You fail to grasp that CCP could have looked at them case by case and made a determination. They chose not to. It was easier not to make the hard call by a case by case determination and just say no to everyone at the same time. They take no responsibility in their poor criteria for a massive and awesome event. Based on poor criteria they effectively shut out and angered thousands and thousands of players from getting any or some of the rewards.
Scarlett LaBlanc, CCP manages an on line community with thousands and thousands of players. They should have a support desk to be able to reply to individual inquires, which they do daily for in game activity. Their poor execution of the event caused an influx of support tickets. They lowered their standards which I have come to expect from them. I will not freely give them an out like you did. You don’t know how many people it effected and you don’t know what CCPs capacity is. You missed the point entirely.
Overarching comments:
Basically its a game, CCP established bad criteria and penalized players who did not log in during their specified timeframe. This event should have been at least double the days it ran. If there were 16 days, there should have been 32 days for players to take advantage of it. That would be reasonable, not 18.
My only suggestion would be to make it less painful for those who are way out from “Eve time”. I lost two days (and since I started late I missed the buffer days because I wasn’t aware of the campaign immediately) due to the differences in Eve’s “end of day” and my timezone’s End of Day.
This cost me the last two rewards which, as a new player, is very painful (That 1,000,000 SP was worth 25% of my total SP so far).
(EDIT) Looks like I lost the last day to the round-down/round-up / last day confusion thing people are talking about.
Are you kidding me? Case by case basis?
Lets ignore the fact that it would take months, possibly a year to sort out all the potential cases.
All it takes is one. One person, who outlines what he did to get the reward, and post it on reddit.
Everyone else from that point on, would follow his instructions. And if CCP were to say no, to any of them, that would be unfair, would it not?
What, did you expect CCP to ask you to send in the death certificate of your recently departed loved one? Did you expect CCP to ask to send them your hospital bills? A note from the doctor? And do you understand how absurd it is, and how much backlash CCP would get, in asking for that as proof?
Just recently, Bethesda was both under scrutiny and mocked for asking players who were banned, to write a 500 word essay on why its wrong to cheat in a multi-player game. And they were mocked relentlessly by the media.
So please, do tell. How was CCP supposed to make a determination on a case-by-case criteria to begin with? When two people are claiming their parents funeral prevented them from being in the event? And one, or both, could be lying? When even a hundred people could claim their parents funeral? And what if one of them was telling the truth, but the other 99 were lying?
Please, share with us, how CCP would determine the liars. Polygraph test? Torture?
What if im in the hospital for over 3 weeks. What about my predicament?
You were lucky. You only in the hospital for 1 week. But i was in a much more dangerous, much more serious accident, and i was in the hospital for 3 weeks. There was no way I couldve made the event in time.
And this outlines the biggest problem of all.
You can, and people do, have commitments that end up lasting multiple weeks, even months. And there will always be someone, who, even if the event lasted for as long as you wished, will miss out on the event.
For the guy who was in the hospital for 3 weeks, 32 days wouldnt have cut it. For him, it would be reasonable to last 2 months. 32 Days isnt enough time for him.
And he would be here, just like you, and be saying “CCP should take into account my real world events, 32 days wasnt nearly long enough, I needed atleast 60 days”.
What do you say to a person like that? What about the real world events of someone like that? Why arent you considering him, and his predicament, and stopping it at 32 days, and not 5 months?
Leave it to players to take a “Good will gesture” and complain like they deserved it.
