Event Feedback - XVI Anniversary Celebrations!

Fizzled …

here was my feedback from the canned reply:
“Based on the lack of clear communication I am very disappointed that there is nothing that can be done. Based on the forum post:https://www.eveonline.com/article/pqq67x/xvi-anniversary-celebrate-16-years-of-amazing-stories?origin=launcher
It reads " We’re super happy to announce that from May 2nd through to May 20th” also attached is the picture and to loose out on the 1M skill points is unacceptable and really make a longtime 4 account player think twice about renewing my subscription."

I architected my business trip around being available on the 20th to claim the last award and while it might be a nit pick I think through the 20th includes the 20th… Posted as suggested by the GM answering the support ticket.

In my humble opinion this is a great way to give loyal players a kick in the teeth.

Personally I don’t have time to login to eve 16 out of 18 days, and these ridiculous daily rewards are not in keeping with eve’s gameplay style and target audience.

Asking us to log in once during a 2 week period to claim the reward would have been much more reasonable. I guess this has something to do with increasing metrics, but what’s the point if your making the game into a chore and causing people to quit in the long run.

Maybe you shouldve been a better architect and given yourself a days worth of leeway, that way you wouldnt have missed it even if there was a problem.

Actual, loyal players understand how the game mechanics works and also how downtime works.

Great. Then no reward for you.

Sure. And then the reward wouldve been like a 20,000 Skillpoint reward, instead of a million skillpoint reward.

Good thing it wasnt, and good thing those of us who were able to follow the instructions and the rules, got an amazing 1 million skillpoint reward.

Thanks, CCP!

Did it sound like I was interested in your opinion?

The feedback is for CCP.

Does this look like a private feedback system between you and CCP?

Its an open, public forums.

Loved this event, as many others that have been done in the past, My only disappointment with it, I had a Game error arise where I could not log into the game, and despite GM’s many attempts on instructing me on what to do, I went 30+ hours of not getting access to the game and due to this I missed out on day 16 of the rewards. not only that, The GM’s was great on supporting me on the 1st day of the issue, but then all went quite for almost a week before I got a further reply from them. so overall experience this time was Poor and the after support was a let down.

I was always interested in Eve and had dipped my toes years ago but the skill point gap was too steep but this promotion hooked me in w/ the skill gifts and I bought a subscription. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I could claim the rewards even if I signed up after the start date. It was a major bummer that I couldn’t claim the big prize.

One incident/ticket submitted and two replies (Thank you GM’s for indeed replying at all), both of which suggest posting to this thread. While i have read through the majority of the above, and have “answers” to what you see quoted below, i don’t feel that the result properly embraces the celebratory event that one would expect from an anniversary/birthday.

Exceptions to the rules, understanding and communication are all something that drives player experience, as it stands those two of those three things are missing from your reply. It stands to reason that communication only apples in so much as to tell me that i am wrong and then to post on a forum page. Which i see would not assist in anything other than to further frustrate an already frustrated player.

Moreover in doing so i can see that the initial graphic shows “2-20 May” as a date-frame for the celebration. Which is further supported by the “More information” link with details claiming that one must only “log(ging) in to the game and claiming your awesome free gifts between 2 May and 20 May”. As noted and supported by your system logs, i logged in within a few minutes of the above noted time, clearly on within the date-frame stipulated on all of the banners and basic documentation. Then being told that “oops you didn’t read the 3 lines on a login page that you may or may not have been paying attention to because you just wanted to get flying so you get a pat on the head” and sent on your way, as a mildly insulting thing to do no?

As a player/pilot who has supported the game and enjoyed its complexity dating back over a decade, I am immensely frustrated by the lack of flexibility and understanding that should come with the close knit community that is Eve. Being pointed towards a forum to simply troll and complain would be the exact opposite of the outcome one would hope for, and would prove to exacerbate and inflame the issue of date/time semantics vs players worldwide location.

I am not sure how this rewards program is supposed to make people happy, when the rigidity causes people like myself to not want to log in out of sheer frustration.

I do thank you for your reply, granted i was indeed hoping for more.

Artemis

Enjoy your Friday.

Event was too short. Need more days in order to secure all daily logins in the future.

Happy for you - you got your rewards, congratulations. Here’s my problem… I’ve been keeping my accounts running despite not having time to play. I got an email from CCP on 4th May 2019 around 3 pm GMT stating:

Greetings xxxx

EVE’s 16th birthday celebrations have only just begun, and you can still claim all the free gifts from the daily login event! Get all the rewards, even those you’ve missed, by logging in on all the remaining days between now and 20 May.

You can claim rewards that pay tribute to EVE’s community and history, with Omega pilots being able to grab items such as the legendary Silver Monocle, new Permaband SKINs, over a million Skill Points and much more, including all the Alpha rewards too!

It is pretty bad to advertise an event this way (and claim you can still get ALL the rewards) since it was sent past the downtime on 4th May - leaving just 15 days to claim. For the record, I didn’t realise downtime was the cutoff point, nor would I have thought so based on the email.

Anyways, I logged on after I read the email and didn’t miss a single day. On 19th May, when I claimed my 15/16 rewards the event timer told me there was 1 day to go, which clearly wasn’t true.

I never stood a chance to reap the big prize, so I feel duped by the email. Had I known I would have be able to get to 15/16 claims I might have participated. Not sure. The 1M SP reward was definitely what caught my eyes and I am disappointed about CCP’s amateurism.

Hope they’ll learn their lesson.

Still in two minds about un-subbing my accounts. I love Eve and wish I could play the game more. Right now I can’t due to real life commitments, but I wanted to support CCP by keeping my subscriptions live.

After this celebration event I’m not sure what to do…

I think youve got it wrong.

You can miss a maximum of two days and still collect the full number of rewards.

The event began on downtime on May 2nd. So May 2nd, 11 AM UTC to May 3rd, 11 AM UTC is the first day.

May 3rd, 11AM UTC to May 4th, 11 AM UTC is the second day.

Missing both days, and beginning at any point on May 4th will guaruntee all 16 prizes, as long as you do not miss a day.

So yes, I believe you missed a day.

If you had to uninstall, then there clearly was a problem.

People have been bringing this point up a lot recently.

The problem with the exceptions to the rules, is that everyone wants to be an exception. And if we make one exception, there is no reason why we shouldnt make an exception for everyone else.

And then it comes to the point where, whats the point of having rules if everyone becomes an exception to the rule?

And more over, how is it fair for the rest of us who followed the rules?

Well, no, players worldwide location is irrelevant, because the timeframe is set for every player.

But as far as I am aware, CCP has never been flexible with the rules. You can complain to CCP that your Internet cut out, and you lost your ship, and ask CCP to reimburse it, but they wont, because its not CCPs fault that your internet cut out.

The crux of the issue is, you misunderstood the rules, and missed the deadline. You knew it was a daily reward, and therefore it would have to reset at some point. And if you were really a player who had been playing for a long time, then you know that CCP almost exclusively times their events to start and end at downtime. Its been like this for the entire time ive played, which is 6 years now.

The flexibility was the 2 days you were granted. The understanding was the blogpost stating the event would begin on downtime on May 2nd.

New players, id understand more, but as an old player who has played over a decade, I dont understand how you would miss such an obvious aspect of the event. Serpentis Gala, Blood Raider Harvest, these all began and ended on downtime.

By my estimation this event requires more concurrent logins than any prior event. My memory may not be perfect, of course. In addition to this it has the most substantial rewards of any of these such events. Again, memory may not be perfect. As such it’s warranted more of a reaction from myself compared to prior events.

There definitely is a difference between “Log in for a few days in a row to get some skins” and the above.

Hence the post of my opinion of this event in a feedback thread, which very much was not complaining.

You are right.

Going over the logs, I missed the first day (4th May) and didn’t start claiming until 5th May in the evening GMT. What got me thinking I was on course for the big prize was the days left indicator.

  • Claimed 1/16 - 16 days left, check.
  • Claimed 10/16 - 6 days left, check.
  • Claimed 15/16 - 1 day left, check.
  • Went to claim 16/16 - sorry event screen gone, event over.

Unbelievable.

Despite the fault of missing a day is rightfully mine; the feeling of disappointment is real, and I still haven’t decided what to do…

Just for curiosity’s sake, Solonious Rex. Did you celebrate the start of the new millennium in 2000 or 2001. You have stated before that you are not afraid to hold unpopular opinions so I bet you were the guy that was correcting everyone on new years eve 2000.:partying_face:

I’m just joking. It’s just that when I was reading about when the event ended I was reminded of the debate about when to celebrate the new millennial.
