Just in the 2 years I have played, they added the flashing reminder, when you hit warp with drones out. Clicking that flashing reminder, cancels warp and retrieves the drones.
There are about only 2 instances where drones would be out.
mining ore
combat
In the event you are just mining, you should get in the habit of bookmarking the site location. Something that I have learned to do. Bookmarks allow you to return and scoop your drones to the drone bay or cargo bay.
In the occasion you are in combat or drawn into combat while your drones are out, it would be cheaper to abandon them than to lose a ship and all its fittings. However when combat is planned, you should use a bookmark to later salvage the combat site. Win or lose there will be something to salvage.
Sorry you got such an adverse reaction on your first and only post to these forums. I kind of recall my first post was a bit of a cold shoulder as it was ignored for weeks. Later I found my own solution to the issue.
Buy new drones for being careless. You can also bookmark a site every time you jump into combat or into a mining site. So if you accidentally jump out or have to jump out for whatever reason, You can always find your way back to collect your drones.
Reminder, Losing drones to buy new ones also keeps the economy going.
Since when is feedback and critique of a suggestion an ‘attack’?
The OP shared an idea to solve a problem that we all have faced and recognize: warping away without drones.
The problem is clear, but there already is a solution: a big warning when you attempt to do so.
At the moment you see that warning can stop your ship to pick up drones first, or warp away anyway if you fear for your ship.
You can easily return to the location if you know where it was and/or bookmarked it. And if you insist you can also return to them with combat probes.
Forcing the ship to stay until drones came back is a very dangerous suggestion as the most realistic situation in which I warp away without waiting for my cheap drones is if my much more expensive ship is about to be destroyed.
So not only is there already an existing solution (a warning, pay attention to it?), it’s also a much safer and better solution.
And how easy is it to stop your ship mid-warp, especially if its a smaller vessel? Half the time the command isn’t even acknowledged and its been that way for years. You also ignored the fact that a MODULE has to be installed to trigger the warp prevention. If you don’t want that behavior you don’t have to install the module. And that behavior would even be OPTIONAL as OP stated. But I know, I know…change baaaaad!
From what I’ve seen the ctrl key is always present on the left on all machines. On the smaller keyboards and on laptops (at least Macs) the ctrl key on the right has been omitted to save space. So I would imagine maybe some right-handed guys using a Mac have problems hitting ctrl+space and not the other way around, but this is the first time I hear anybody claim handedness affects it.
By the way – you can reconfigure keyboard shortcuts to suit your own needs. It doesn’t have to be ctrl+space to stop warp. It could be basically anything.
As for the drone-recall module that you fit on your ship, I see it wasteful of a slot. It would basically be a module that duplicates what the UI notification is already doing, and you lose a slot for nothing. Can’t see why people would use it.
