Forever cloacked and AFK

Vorton goes from enemy ship to enemy ship.

It will hit your own ship if you get too close.

According to multiple posts in reddit, it only does that in low and null. In high sec, it only hits suspect ships.

Yea, CCP made a massive mistake by allowing safety settings to program the Vorton weapons to be better in HS than elsewhere in the game.

Nothing else in the game acts differently depending on safety settings, it only stops you from taking certain actions.

CCP shouldn’t have done this either - it’s as if CCP allows bombs or smartbombs in HS with safeties green and let it only hit enemy ships instead of all ships within the blast.

Crazy. Overpowered.

But CCP gave in to HS players who wanted to fly Edencom ships without catching a criminal timer any time other players flew near.

CCP had no backbone here.

If you ask me activation of Vorton weapons should require safeties red in HS and result in getting CONCORDed if you hit the wrong people, just like smartbombs. Does that mean people probably wouldn’t use Edencom ships in HS? Yes, just like they don’t use smartbombs often.

But long story short: the default behaviour is that Vorton weapons hit everyone near. HS is a mistake/exception.

I would be okay with Vortons being null only ships. Besides, most new content is null anyway right? Can’t exactly imply that high sec gets special favors.

Besides, cant have it doing aoe damage in high sec. That would cause concord to blow up every ship on grid. Can’t have that.

Exactly that is the ideea, some changes to cloak / cyno drop mechanics must come sooner or later. I find also ridiculous that s small frig like Prospect lights a cyno that can bring battleships class ships. Wanna drop BS’s? Light the cov ops cyno with a BS and a realistic limited numer ships up to max 5 or 10, want more? Light more cynos with more BS’s.

Yea, and if you want to move a supercapital ship you should light the cyno with a supercapital ship! /s

(Good luck moving Titans anywhere if you first need to gate another Titan to the destination.)

The Prospect itself doesn’t pull in battleships, it merely lights a cynosural field that functions like a lighthouse. Big ships can lock on to the signal and use their own jump drive to jump to it.

Also the escalation chain already is limited.

A Prospect can only light a covert cyno which can at best be used to bring in battleships. Those battleships can then light a regular cyno to jump in (super)capital ships.

In my opinion the ability of who can light which cyno and jump to which cyno is well balanced.

The only thing I think could be improved is the time to react to a cyno, which currently is limited only by how fast people can click jump and load grid, which means near instant extra ships after someone decloaks next to you in a cyno-capable ship.

If you ask me it could do with a small delay between cyno activation and the ability to jump.

ditto, there are options but are not really viable
most games make inactive players log off to save resources

If EVE would forcefully log out players not active for ~15 minutes like other games do, we would probably see less than 5.000 logged in players in the launcher ^^

I don’t want to know how many of those accounts are pure afk alts to just survey a local/gate or watch (cloaked) over a wormhole connection.

15 mins is too short, but it will surely be s step in the wright way.

Easily circumvented. Everyone and their dog would start using a mouse clicker or input simulator.

I agree, but somewhere must CCP start to make the game interesting for the real players, and not accepting all the bots, afk campers and so on. EVE was a real hard game based on the real hard work of the players. Future proof is EVE only if he returns to the strategy : You work hard , you have something. No bots, no afk cloaky, rework on drop mechanics…

CCP won’t make it interesting by kicking people out after X minutes.

All that would do is enable people who are willing to cheat with a simple mouse clicker an additional advantage over honest players.

I’m all in favour of rules that make the game better, but those rules need to be sensible, enforceable and enforced too.

EVE is one of the few games that allows scamming and allows multiboxing, even built the game such that these forms of cheating in other games are integrated with the gameplay here so that:

  • everyone can benefit from these ‘cheats’, and
  • CCP can spend their valuable time chasing real cheaters rather than a couple of scammers or multiboxers like in other games

I think that’s a very sensible and fair way to deal with tricks that are in many other games considered ‘cheats’ and only used by people who are willing to risk the loss of their account to gain such advantages.

Adding ‘cannot be online longer than 20 minutes without input’ to the cheat list goes in the opposite direction of that sensible design of CCP.

How? There is no way to combat bots. Games can’t detect them without using spy ware that gets installed on your computer in order to continuously ensure you don’t install a bot program. That’s not legal. I suppose they could add a limiter that will log everyone out after 10 hours each day… but that wouldn’t be well received.

If they log everyone for no activity, all someone would have to do is put their mouse on top of a watch with a second hand or on a phone with a video playing. Look up “mouse jiggler” on YouTube.

I can see a logic here though.

You can do anything without smartbombs.
You cannot use (meaningfully) Edencom ships without Vorton.

They needed to hack the system or players wouldn’t use Edencom ships at all. It’s not that they are used a lot, anyway.

… in High Security space.

They could use those ships safely anywhere else. EVE is bigger than just HS.

Also people could still use those ships in HS even without hacking the safety system. They’d just have to be careful not to continue blasting if someone else warps to the site.

CCP has left this path with the Safety-Settings. They are in place to mechanically prevent a player from doing a mistake that would make him criminal. Which means -by definition- EDENCOM weapons would require Safety-Red to be used in HS.

But I agree, not every system has to be usable in HS (without limitations). Or if (like Smartbombs), the user should be required to operate on Safety Red and be very very careful.

Sending English Dictionary to you

What about being able to stay permanently cloaked but NOT be able to open a portal? Ships that can’t fit a cyno should be able to fit a special covops cloak that isn’t affected by the mobile observatory

You have to decloak to open a Cyno.

Remember how pissed off all the krabs got during blackout? Might be time for another blackout. That was some high quality drama and the first two weeks saw blood running in rivers.
