Recently, while playing games, I suddenly felt confused. Whenever I wanted to use my full skilled account to participate in PVP, I found that the playtime had run out and a new monthly subscription was required to continue. But for me, paying for a whole month’s subscription just to play one hour of PVP feels like a huge waste.
I hope one day the Omega restriction for paid players can be lifted, allowing them to use all their skill points in PVP even if the account has no skill training. PLEX should be used to purchase training skill times, while in-game time will be completely free.
Of course, I also hope the game can develop healthily, allowing the company developing this game to earn money from players without turning it into a free, endlessly exploitative journey.
Perhaps (a considered advice) the game could consider offering some paid services, such as cash-based payment options. For example, I think EVE Online urgently needs a voice mail system, where non-paying players cannot communicate in-game, similar to a monthly “mobile subscription” in real life, like a space telecom company. I believe a price of $9.99 per month would be acceptable to most players. If multiple players require this communication service, we could offer a bundled package for three accounts at $15.99. Player don’t buy the communication plan, can not communicate in the local chat, can’t send or receive email. (Maybe only allow them to chat in the npc channels and corp channels)
Game can also consider offering paid AI services that interact with players in the game, helping them complete certain tasks. These services can be monetized through cash payments rather than in-game PLEX, as I believe PLEX could turn the game into a haven for power users.
No chance of this happening. Plenty of Eve’s player base have mature characters that don’t need to train. It would be a moronic business move from CCP/FC that would cost them loads of revenue.
You are right, but we all have loads of mature characters, is it time to for player to pay something more valuable than just paying for destroy gaming assets? That sounds really depressive. We all forget the fun.
I never had an issue with Fenris monetization of the game in the form of omega. I never used or paid for omega. I did train some characters faster when they gifted free omega for a week. Other than that, I am happy to play here as a free alpha. I have said, they sell the omega subs wrong as in they offer us the wrong enticement to buy. That is another story.
If you cannot find the fun in playing, what is the point? I play here very casual, mostly because I have other games, and my time is tied up with medical conditions that need attention. I really like Eve’s PvP style because it is all about knowing what to bring to the fight. You know it is going to be awesome, when your opponent shows up in a missile boat, and you brought the drone boat.
How would this game you wish to play be funded if a major income source (subscriptions) was removed?
Developing and maintaining a game is not free.
What you ask for is that the game:
stops developing
scales down server capabilities
stops support
does far more agressive microtransactions, like selling you the ability to undock the ship you want for that day
does all of the above
I honestly prefer to pay a subscription to just play a reasonably well maintained full game instead of buying a fremium game piece-wise and never feel like I fully unlocked it unless I spend far more than I do now.
If you wish to play EVE for free that’s possible. Play as Alpha, or extract your monthly skill points and sell it to cover most of the cost of Omega.
Yes, you have just concluded what I see when a in-game currency is turn the game into a haven for power users, the development are designer around the users not the game anymore, so fresh starter won’t able to be comprehence the game from the point of what it is now.
Thanks for the replies,
I want to resummerized the points so we won’t get confused.
The constrains by alpha account vs omegas are:
Skill training is stopped (which is fair, skill points=isk=plex, however sometimes you active omega but don’t really want to train your skills, which would be a waste) Skills are partially locked (It really bothers many players, accounts with more skill points has to pay. I think it should be lifted) Multiboxing is not working (I think it is fair, and there is potential for the game to charge from players who wants to play multiples accounts, in a reasonable prices, like a family plan for mobile users in real life.)
Extra suggestion: The communication access, for example, voice mailing, local chat in space, or corporation management add-on etc(everything related to administration), could be the features that the subscribe user can enjoys. (AI assistance, maybe in the future, who knows? )
Again, try setting up skill extraction if you wish to play with your Omega skills and ships for nearly free and don’t mind the effective ‘skill training is stopped’ that you get by selling your monthly skill progression to buy Omega.
You get the best rates with bulk packs of extractors and omega during sales.
No, we are adults. We realize that running and developing the game does cost money. And we we have learned how to make some money on our own. EVE does cost like 8 dollars/euros when subbing long-term using sale offers. It’s ridiculously cheap.
And you can always PvP in Aplha State, Navy Battlecruisers are cheap as ■■■■ and perform pretty well in most fleet setups.
In game age would be fair kinda I guess? But actual age does not work. We were a corp of middle-aged men when we joined. We took in a teenager who turned into a very good pvp player till he hit collage and left the game. Just because someone is young does not mean they can’t be good at the game.
I wish more player can see this post, sort of conclude my perception, as following.
