Gankers During High-Sec PVE missions?

Why is gank squads warping into a high-sec mission dead space pocket part of the game experience?

I can understand players attacking valuable shipments. Interrupting a player’s mission run is something else. When a fleet warps into system and mission pocket within a minute, there is no in-game method to avoid the ganking. What does Fenris expect the PVE content players to do?

Shielding beginners from the PVP mechanics might make them play a few weeks longer. When they see PVP in action, rage quitting seems inevitable. Skill into a battleship and outfit one just to watch a fleet of Catalysts shred it? Who enjoys this?

Because… it’s sometimes hard to catch ships where you’d normally expect.

Beginners have credit cards just like everyone else.

You fly a BS or BC? Fit an MJD. Don’t sit around at the warp-in beacons. AB or MWD away from there in ships without MJD. Don’t fall for suspect traps.

Rage-quitting over PVP in a game that is ALL about PVP. Weird flex, if you ask me, and these players have hardly a place in this game if they cannot deal with PVP.

We can, of course, debate about PVP shields, but those who use them should have a 50 % drop in rewards, loot and other benefits from their activities. At least.

Local, DScan, warp out of the mission when they are at the gate.

Simples.

Because there are no gate or station guns. You can easily get caught with your pants down.

Hi sec players will tell you that they don’t do any of that and they shouldn’t have to. :man_shrugging:

Dscan will have told you they were looking for you ahead of time, as you cannot enter a mission pocket without either being invited by the owner, or combat probing him down. Furthermore local will have told you when the gank alts appeared in system, and if you’d done your due diligence beforehand you’d have looked up which groups are active in your area and could have marked them. Furthermore furthermore in most missions they would have appeared at the initial warp-in point, outside the first acceleration gate, in which case a short range dscan would have given you a minute or so of warning that someone is about to crash your party, more than enough time to warp out with anything other than a marauder.

No highsec mission requires a marauder, so “I was in bastion” is a choice you actively made, as are not checking dscan, not keeping an eye on local, not keeping an eye on killboard for your area to know who you might run into, and so on.

Why would someone gank a mission runner? Plenty of very legitimate reasons. Many mission boats are blinged out, and you can earn a lot of ISK just by sacrificing a couple catalysts. Maybe you show up, blap his MTU, in the hope of showing him the power of the Nergal when he starts attacking you for it? Maybe the system is under your sov and you require mission runners active in it to have a valid mission running permit? Maybe you just want to see him rage in local because it’s funny. Maybe you just wanted to blap something.

Because that’s how PvP happens elsewhere in the game too.

Luckily you have a directional scanner and access to combat probes to check if any hostiles are approaching your deadspace pocket.

Good luck!

Risk averse high-sec players like me will tell you that “yes, we do all of that” and regardless of whether we should or shouldn’t have to - it is what it is.

Welcome to Eve Online. Where you are either loaded for bear or chum in the water. The only way to know the difference is who gets turned in to a pretty fire ball in the sky.

I understand this game focuses on the PVP aspect. Asking if the high-sec PVP game mechanics is enjoyable for anyone other than suicide ganking fleets? Could Fenris adjust the game mechanics for the high-sec PVE content players for their game enjoyment?

The problem is that an optimized fit for mission running is chum in the water, so it’s impossible to be simultaneously loaded for bear.

Why are we accepting the “it is what it is” philosophy? This seems especially relevant when Fenris rolls out a newcomer area to help them learn the game. How well does Eve Online retain active players? How does PVP players entering a gated high-sec mission space effect player retention?

You’re asking questions that only FC can answer. They keep new player numbers and stats closely guarded, so it’s basically best guess for the rest of us.

I’m all for PvP combat. But it’s never PvP - it’s GvP (gang vs. player), BvP (blob vs. player) or CvP (cyno vs. player). This is what I have a problem with.

Not only is the battleship less than 4 days to unlock with Omega, both the standard battleship and the Navy issue version are Alpha Clone unlocks.
