Ill just leave this here.
Some people get so upset, they talk about their intent to break the rules.
Gotta love space lawyers
What I find truly fascinating is how behaviors repeat themselves, across time and across contexts:
First you have the “Leader”. Usually a megalomaniac egocentric freak, he comes with a noble cause: “One day I will fly a Titan, my favorite is the Avatar and this is how I am going to make it”.
He presents to the community his hunting collection accumulated over the years on the back of the ignorant, and how he is piling up his wealth, justifies his behavior with “I just follow the rules and the mechanics, I am innocent”, and shows-off how smart he is. What he wants is to get traction and recognition from his peers, and “justifies” his behavior to see if he can continue without being chopped. He does not hesitate the bring back on a silver plate years old warmed-up arguments trying to keep his conscious clean.
Then you have the “Hero”. He presents all kind of intellectual psycho-analytical explanation and justifications why the Leader is wrong and why the leader should not behave like he does. He is usually alone, get most of the time vaporized within seconds by the group below.
Next you have the “Followers” or let’s call them the “Mitmacher’s”. This is usually the majority, they are the worst of the worst in terms of opportunism. They never invent anything, never try out new things,
they never contribute anything of value, the only thing they do is stay in the background and when an opportunity arise they try to be funny but in reality they are pathetic. They machine gun havoc against the Hero with all kind BS like:
“GTFO, go and spit your poison in another thread, learn the mechanics we a right and you are wrong, etc”. The Mitmacher is in desperate need of recognition, maybe from the Leader himself: “Hey, psssst… I am here and I am your friend, don’t forget me”
Finally you have the “Referee”. That is CCP, they hold the key to the castle and are ready to chop off anyone who transgresses the “rules” which in fact are not rules at all. The Leader deep in himself wants the blessing from the Referee.
Then you have me, the “Observer”. He tries to understand how someone can be so stupid as to accept a duel while flying a hauler. This truly blows my mind.
Alleluia!
PS. to the OP, you cannot fly capitals in high sec, they are very poor bumping ships and you will have to try surviving in null (if you can).
You forgot the pubbie
I forgot the Ignorant. He does incredibly stupid and crazy things like flying a jump freighter without a cyno alt somewhere in null, accepting ransom payments, accepting “permits” or simple accepting duels in a hauler.
This category is trully impossible to understand or to analyse with reason.
Sometimes a thread can just be a good read. It doesn’t have to be anything more.
Thank you for your contribution to this thread! I can assure you that I’m more than capable of surviving in low / null. Do you think that highsec fun is all I do?
This has nothing to do with any kind of moral or social justification or the need to be accepted. If you read some of my blog or probably even here, I’m simply attempting to give back to the community and its future players. I got my start in Eve Online by reading all the incredible stories of theft, deceit, and loss from players like @Imperator_Kane (Formerly “Cannibal Kane”). If stories of my unconventional playstyle cause one person to sub or continue playing, then I’ve done my job.
Saw this guy was at war with another group, so I contacted them and they burned 20+ jumps while I kept him bumped. I ended up getting restless so I got him to duel me!
Got him to eject 700m worth of loot
Lacie LaFleur > So you just came back to the game?
Honor DeVries > yes… after two year
Honor DeVries > s
Honor DeVries > come on…please
Lacie LaFleur > Welcome back to Eve Online.
Honor DeVries > thanks …
Lacie LaFleur > You’re welcome
TOTAL:
700m in jettisoned loot
BONUS:
+1 for doing my part for player retention!
So there’s this pilot that I’ve tried to duel before but has since blocked me. I just think that is so rude! Why would you want to block communication with me? Since he didn’t want to hear what I have to say he found himself at war with VMG.
So today I spotted him flying his freighter around, but there was over 2 hours left until the war went live! Dang! Well just curious to see what would happen, I following him from 4-4 into Peri with my bump mach and started doing what I do. I know there were some bystanders watching, and “Basc Grand” some poor pitiful AG decided he would intervene. His efforts were commendable, but in the end he was rather sloppy with his bump machariel.
So I bumped him for 20 minutes and then suddenly our friend logs off! I take the opportunity to shoot at him with a suicide alt in order to keep him with a logoff timer. I stopped bumping and the ship warped away to his e-warp safe where I probed him down and got ready to dedicate the next 2 hours of my life to making sure he stayed put.
So I had to use two suicide alts to swap tagging him for aggression timers, and did this for the next two hours… Suddenly it was GO time and I brought Faylee in to slay this space-nerd and style on him with the killing blow.
TOTAL:
475m in loot dropped
EDIT:
Oh no wonder he had me blocked… I had forgotten that I’ve dueled him before
Providence | CarIito Brigante | Killmail | zKillboardOOPSIE!
Total ISK in the pot: 96,953,000,000
You forgot the fake suedo intellectuals who feel the need to catagorize everyone into groups that support their short sighted narative…
Wouldn’t that be the Hero ?
Btw, it’s spelled “Pseudo”.
What about the person playing a game who just wants to keep it on topic.
There are no heroes in this thread, just rp pirates and some peeps that’s can’t differentiate fantasy from reality.
Every thread seems to have these people, with no sense of humour or irony.
I haven’t seen any ‘intellectual psycho-analytical explanation and justifications’,
I would know, I’m an intelectual.
MacChimpy I think has his own reasons for bitterness,
But I consider his response above tacit agreement that his arguments,
Like all such,
Are nonsense when one considers notions of play.
Serious fools are seriously foolish I guess.
Thank you for your analysis.
Edit: If I have not made it clear enough, I do not consider machimpy a fool, just misguided, with his own reasons for taking the game a bit seriously
Nice how you are always ready to give your victims pointers,
That can only eat into your bottom line.
Earwigging in local chat the other day, it became apparent that many haulers and freighter pilots have never been suicide ganked, and do not understand the mechanics at all- no one seemed to have a clue it was like listening to little children talking about the bogeyman under the bed.
So you are an educator of sorts.
Well we’d all want some part of that cake too at some point, so he better not educate too many …
Pirates have been the main educators in eve high sec since 2004, which is as far back as I can comment.
I wouldn’t worry.
It’s an ecosystem.
I am more than happy to inform, notify, or teach someone that has the right attitude. I understand for some of these people they’ve just taken a large loss, but if they are curious and want to avoid another, I’m always happy to educate.
I mean at some point someone had to teach me what I know. Some of it I theorycrafted on my own, but a lot of everyone’s knowledge just comes from talking about it. It most certainly has eaten into my bottom line, and it’s not just because of this thread or posts on Reddit and such.
I’m not too worried about those that feel the need to project some kind of real life diagnosis on me or anyone that plays the game differently than others. We all have to admit that it has made for a nice collective laugh in between posts.
Can this sort of activity be done with an alpha account ?
Since you can only have 1 account logged in with an alpha, you’d have to have a partner. If you were wanting to do this on an alpha, a Gnosis would be the obvious ship of choice (In fairly sure alphas can fly a Gnosis).
You will of course want to present yourself in a very non-threatening ship, such as the Iteron 5 fit I link and show up on grid in before I swap ships to the TFI.
You will also really want a bump Machariel. I know people offer up fits for other ships to bump in, but if you’re going to be keeping them bumped for any length of time, the Machariel is the obvious winner. It can be expensive if you’re just learning how to bump, but it’s a night and day difference. Mach > all
Alphas can only fly up to Cruiser
Not sure about Iteron 5 though
Nah he said the Hero specifically targeted the leader.
Served Fair one.
