Hi I just started, why isn’t Eve the game I always imagined

This is the most obvious troll thread for today.

  • Look up cynosaural beacons / jump drives.

  • and:

Please keep in mind you are far far from the first person to bring these things up… Something that is new to you does not mean new to everybody…at all…

btw @Nicolai_Serkanner is right
we all love the game some of us play for a decade or more
maybe if you ponder why is that… you will waste your time in a less futile way

Some like eve some don’t, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Do you get spiffy spandex uniforms to go with the spiffy emblem that they ripped off?

yeah
but op imagined that tea tasted like coke
poorly brewed a cup and took a sip , insta bought a ticket to England , goes to Buckingham Palace and start yelling -hey old hag tea SUUUUUCK

Then gets stabbed in the face with the last 6 inches of British diplomacy by one of the guys in a quaint uniform and big hat that just happens to also be a front line troop, for dissing 2 of the UK’s treasures.

No, spandex was banned. Since they recruited mostly from the videogame-playing, sci-fi fan population, most of us aren’t in the best possible shape. They gave us some nice berets, though.

Round is still a shape :stuck_out_tongue:

Imagine a coordinate system elaborate and precise enough to let you warp/fly to a specific location somewhere in a galaxy (what New Eden is). You’d do a lot of typing. As usual the compromise between having a vast universe with +7500 systems and navigation requires simplification i.e., the current system.

There are jumpdrive capable ships (starting from tech2 battleships) that can navigate to cyno beacons, without making use of gates but with other restrictions. Quite the adventure in fact, but also quite demanding on SP.

It’s simply not that kind of a game. You can do planetary production, but not land.

As others have pointed out, there is lore and video about this. Some devs would undoubtedly love to see us slam into planets and stars, but that would create quite a few problems in star systems where connecting gates have planets between them, as an example. That is also why normal newtonian mechanics are not followed (you would spend more time decelerating than actually flying) but a fluid mechanics model is used instead. Again a compromise to make the game enjoyable, at the cost of physical accuracy.

You can stop your ship from going into full warp, if you hit ctrl-space before reaching 75% speed. Others can prevent you from initiating warp, but not the actual warp.

As to your overall question, why is EvE not the game you always imagined ? Because someone else created the game according to their imagination and the technical capabilities at the time. Have you given yourself the time to actually discover what the game has to offer ? It’s a lot broader than mere game mechanics…

You have gotten some very good answers in the above, also a few trolls or more defensive reactions.

Welcome to Eve

You may want to look into the CSM and what it does. Alternatively you may want to try to run for office next year if you are still around.

But the first thought I had when reading your thread title?

Getting married is going to be an interesting experience for you (or it was, maybe you have already been married) Big things are seldom what you imagine they will be.

Oh dear, why does Eve seem to attract these idiots ??

They will not stay long enough to become an annoyance.

If you want to experience how big Eve is why not undock set a course for the sun at your chosen vessel max speed and see how long it takes you to get their. Yes that’s right you don’t need to warp their!

I’ve been playing Eve for 17 years in the same rookie system because I don’t use warp
