Only for the purpose of exploiting them for success. Perhaps you define your business entity as your corporation rather than just yourself, but your goal is still to crush your business rivals and claim as much ISK for yourself as possible. Other people only matter as long as they are providing a necessary component of your ISK-making machine.
You can’t sell what nobody wants to pay for and fighting over it only makes this worse.
Fortunately EVE is a PvP game with permanent ship loss, and CODE does their part to keep this true even in highsec. There is no “want to pay for it”, you either buy stuff or stop playing.
There are far too many things needing to be mined, to be build and to be moved for anyone to have the time to fight over it.
Why does that mean that I shouldn’t fight over it? If I can sell my complete production capacity for X billion ISK I can sell it for even more if my rivals are annihilated and I am the only seller. Now, I’m obviously not going to accomplish that monopoly goal, but war is good for business. It’s especially good in the case of things like suicide ganking, where my rivals can be destroyed and demand can be created without me having to put any effort into it. CODE simply increases demand and profits as an act of kindness towards me.
Nor has CODE destroyed any number of ships for it to matter for EVE’s industry or economy.
Personally? Maybe not. But the net effect of combat, including suicide ganking, is positive for competent industrial players. It all adds up, and claiming that one piece of the picture is not the complete picture is missing the point.
To say CODE was great for business is however about as wrong as saying ‘criminals are good for the police’.
That’s not a valid comparison at all. The police are employed regardless of crime, and police exist to perform a morally good service to the community. Even if crime creates more demand for police the negative effects of crime are far worse, and even most police officers would rather live in a world with lower crime.
In EVE there is no such moral issue, only profit and loss. If police existed in EVE then crime would in fact be good for them, as it would create demand for their services and therefore more profit for the police. In fact, you’d probably have police players making throwaway alt accounts to commit crimes and then “investigate” with their mains to collect the bounty payment (or whatever other means by which police get paid). The ideal situation for the EVE police would be a crime-filled hellscape where the grieving families of every murder victim have to bid against each other for an investigation, driving the ISK/hour paid for police services as high as possible.
