I gave EVE a try --cannot recommend to new players

It’s a thing.
I usually don’t label things “good” or “bad”.
I just thought it was noteworthy for no actual reason beyond that.

I haven’t done this in a long time.

well, I was thinking their rookie ship looked a lot like a B wing… trying to remember who fields the nebula looking battleship… other strange facts… folks seem to say the civvie gatling rail is ‘total crap’ but with a few rigs, it’s like having 75mm rails that never run out of ammo.

Ooohhh, you’re discovering the depths of the rookie ships!

I like that! Most people just move on to frigates. :frowning:
A dozen rookies in properly fitted rookie ships pack a serious punch!

Reminds me … I’ve waited over two years until I’ve first flown a battleship.
I had no use for them. My main ship was the hurricane, which is now the navy hurricane.

But before that I’ve spent my first six to eight months in a 10mn AB speed-tanking Rifter fitted with 250mm Artillery.

Actually, a venture with twin civvies, and the Damage and range rigs for hybrid makes for a tanky little ratter that is xerox cheap and expendable…

There’s people baiting in ventures …
… though, admittedly, they’d not be using civilian turrets.

I have no idea if it’s actually viable.
Maybe you should try.

There’s something kind of zen about orbiting a Guristas tower at 2500 meters, with afterburner on, and doing like 12 DPS… watch them miss you all the time, as you nickle and dime them, and be like “I can just do this -all day-”

Do you like mining too?

I do it, and PI… near 1.8Bn value, most of it is in BPO for what I fly for fun, and what I fit them with… Mining and Ratting for the minerals and salvage to cook off stuff… I’ve got like 30 ventures right now, 3 slicers, a Min shuttle, a badger, a few Tristans, an Incursus or 3, 2 punishers…

I admit I care a lot more about how a ship looks, than how good it is meta wise.

Xeus,
FYI, you should be aware that someone can be new to EVE, but have decades experience with gaming… what first got me going on EVE is that it reminded me of Homeworld ((on the Amiga at that))

If you were truly new to Eve, you wouldn’t have so many long opinions about why you think it is wrong. You would just be taking it all in.

Xeux,
that’s the decades of BDSM talking,
first impressions are important, and why I’m saying that they didn’t think that out so well with some of the new folks just getting into gaming that doesn’t have candy neon colors and awards for being able to chew bubble gum and walk at the same time.

The Eve New Player Experience is frightfully bad. CCP changes it sometimes, but they don’t fix any of it. I find it rather shocking whenever I run through it.

I’m not talking about player ganking - I’m talking about players being pushed into mining and mission running.

Xeux,
that’s what you get when stuff is written by folks who have spend months coding a game…
“what you mean that a total newbie doesn’t instinctively know you are supposed to press ctrl-alt-f8 to do that?”

It is more like they don’t know how to encourage new players to meet veteran players. The solo highsec gameplay in Eve is atrocious.

I’ve run across several ‘gank bait’ things, like some BPO’s that go for like 180 million on sale for like 5 million in some isolated .2 or .1 , buy the contract on 1 alt… re-contract it to a different alt… then zip in, and back out in a speed small ship, at some god forsaken hour… missing the popular ‘camping’ times… and making some decent value for myself…

Yeah . . . but the tutorial didn’t teach you that.

My beef with the tutorial is that it focuses exclusively on the things in Eve that are horrible.

well, the tutorial is supposed to mostly teach you the pertinent controls I think… and actually there are some advantages to being an old school gamer new to a decades old game…

And how many months did you spend playing with the Thrasher? :stuck_out_tongue:

One reason I try and think outside the box… I like how the Minmatar ships look, but autocannons almost make me cringe.
