Oh come on it is funny, though I must admit to be getting bored by it. So save me from myself
Well, FWIW, today I’ve been banned from minerbumping chat channel. No more fun for me there talking to New Order agents, and the ones I regularly interact with in particular…
EDIT: There appears to be some drama going on there and I may have been caught in the middle, but don’t really know what’s happening. Wish I did…
I must say this is all a jolly little soap opera. Kudos to the writing crew this season.
That does seem odd, I am actually sorry to hear that. I would not expect you to have a problem there unless they have really developed massively thin skins all of a sudden.
I will check with a couple of other AG who are in that chat channel too, hmmmm one still has access, but he does just pop in every so often rather than hang in the channel.
EDIT: Can confirm that another AG was kicked last week, you are not alone…
I just got back to EVE. Feels like I’m the only hi sec miner left.
TBH I actually kind of like hi sec ganking… up to a point. Managing risk/reward is the only thing that keeps mining engaging. I miss the days when there were paper-thin high-yield covetors everywhere, because from my perspective they would put in brave service pulling suicide ganker aggro away from my highly tanked porp/procurer setup.
Hi sec feels empty as ■■■■ now though. Belts are almost always full, but I feel like a buffalo that’s lost his herd. Everyone’s run away for moon mining or because of the trigs. Such is life.
But that “up to a point” is the difference between blowing things up, and harassment. Back when I used to fly covetors I’d get ganked every once in a while. Sometimes gankers would jeer a little, but I’d follow the cardinal rule of never acknowledging their existence. I’d just jump back into a backup ship, flag them as low standing, scrape off the salt, and get on with it with my guard up higher. Like all cats and bullies, if there’s no emotional payoff to torturing someone, they get bored and go looking for someone else who’ll squeak for them.
But even so, that’s the line. It’s one thing to blow up someone’s internet spaceship - it’s just a game ffs, and if you’re smart about it you’ll keep a few backups and they’re not that expensive to replace. Just because we’re carebears doesn’t mean we have to be pathetic idiots too.
But actually bullying people into real emotional distress and harassing them off the game? That’s the line between being an in-character asshole to a real-life asshole. And it’s also stupid, because by harassing them off the game you’re removing the content - because stupid miners who don’t protect themselves are themselves the content for your playstyle. It’s like a wolf who wants to chase way their prey. Based on in-game needs, it’s stupid as ■■■■. But if you’re a bully who gets off on tormenting people? Then it makes sense - but then, you’re an asshole.
In any case: Good on the OP for outgrowing it.
Question for any gankers on the thread: Does hi sec seem as empty of good gank targets to you as it seems to me? I don’t actually gank, I mainly just spam d-scan looking for catalysts and other miners to fleet up with. I only see the systems that I’m in, and I know how to choose relatively safer systems. So my perceptions could be off.
That said, I remember seeing lots of covetors and retrievers around the place. But lately the only thing I’m seeing is the Korean newbie ventures. Feels like there’s a real dearth of good gank targets for you guys. Does that line up with how it looks to you?
Trump 2020 baby, gonna be an amazing 4 more years when he isn’t held back by another election
Yeah, was completely dead my tz before I stopped playing and pretty bad in us/eu compared to a year or two ago
Hard to want to log in when all you saw was a couple of empty freighters an hour
James 315 must be ecstatic.
Nah, It’s more the game being dead than people not being dumb and following the code tbh
We are all famous!!! Just to correct the record, the miner’s public breakdown is very real.
…yes, and?
If you want people to believe you, then you need to provide proof.
I wasn’t trying to insult you, I legitimately had serious difficulty understanding what you were trying to say there.
Wait, what? Where was this? I just looked through my posts on this thread and didn’t see anything about your killboards until you brought them u- Wait a second.
Is @Octavech_Raholan your alt?
Because this thread is about @Viirilithizu_Ward apologizing for being “a CODE. space bully”, and your argument with Knowledgeminer is what other forums call a derail.
…you know, I was going to snark about him taking after James’ posts on Minerbumping, but from what I’ve seen James is far more coherent.
I also don’t really get why people complain about the length of his writing, but that’s probably because I enjoy reading doorstoppers.
I guess you could look at that post as me incorrectly using the “royal ‘we’”. And your guess is right on the money; I have no friends or any measure of social competence due to my introverted nature and chronic foot-in-mouth disease. Whenever I’m in a social situation, it’s not a matter of if I will say something I shouldn’t have, but when, which is usually followed by ten minutes of me internally flagellating myself for being an idiot and upsetting people.
Yeah, that’s one of the problems I have with CODE. Sometimes their behavior just goes too far from what I’d consider acceptable conduct.
Aaand… I’m back in the minerbumping chat channel again…
You did a comparison on my killboard and Knowledgeminers before I mentioned your killboard, and by the way it is irrelevant. A lot of successful AG work involves making the gankers log off and you don’t get kills, all you have to do is threaten their loot scooper. In any case it means so little to me that I don’t even have my killboard updated.
He is a Korean player, I am not.
Well I have stopped arguing with him, but you want to argue with me.
Good.
No, I didn’t. Nowhere in this thread did I make a post comparing the two of you, which I confirmed by going back through all of my posts to make sure of it. If you want anyone to take you seriously then stop frakking lying.
You made a post comparing us two but you did not actually directly say anything about killboards, instead it was me assuming that is what you meant, so my bad, sorry about that.
Which I replied with this because the only thing I thought you could actually compare in my view was killboards in terms of hot air and substance. which is my assumption.
So I made the transition to killboards, which is my bad but you did compare.
And a reminder about proof in terms of bumping:
The highlighted part is what he would say to me, he did not feel it needed changing. But anyway it is done and dusted and it was finally changed to something that is better balanced.
its looking really dusty…
Alright then, apology accepted.
I said that because Knowledgeminer has provided clear advice, while you have not. If that changes then I will happily admit that I was wrong about you.
Thank you.
Just to be clear, I did not think that I was in some sort of competition on offering advice.
He is extremely knowledgeable, I went into his channel to pick his brains in terms of hunting miner gankers and hauler gankers, I had not really bothered much with them previously having been more focussed on doing logi in terms of freighter ganking.
One thing he said that really resonated with me was the importance of preventing them from getting the loot and that was seriously spot on in terms of beating them, previously I had only thought in stopping the gank as my objective and had ignored the loot, which was the error in my overall strategic thinking. And I have no issues in admitting that.
What does this mean?
Oha! Depressive?
Aspiring depressive?
Concerned minds want to know!
It’s a play on “putting one’s foot in one’s mouth”, a turn of phrase that means making an embarrassing social blunder.
Clinical depression; I need to take antidepressant medication because my neurochemistry doesn’t naturally produce the right mix of chemicals for a healthy emotional state. Without them, I become severely depressed to the point of suicidal ideation.
Some people could probably power their way through it with sheer willpower, but I’m not one of them. Thankfully the doctors caught it before things got too bad, and now I can live a relatively normal life, but with the other psychological issues I have to deal with it’s not entirely wrong to say that I was born somewhat broken.
I don’t feel that ganking miners is a form of bullying. I see it as tough love. Ganking a blingy mackinaw is like pouring an alcoholic’s whiskey down the drain.
