You definitely were mistaken. Eve was deliberately designed so that you have more options than fighting someones main fleet. You can choose strategic targets like their industry or logistics. Burn down their homes. You can bait and ambush. Infiltrate, steal and sabotage. Make deals or intimidate.

That level of agency is what makes eve so special.

The term “ganking” did not start with EVE and it is not unique to EVE. The starter of this thread was quite right to say “Hisec ganking” because the general term “ganking” can well apply to attacks in low sec where the attacker or attackers have a ridiculously huge advantage, especially by virture of numbers but also by surprise. Ganks can happen anywhere, but hisec ganking in EVE has some unique features.

What happens in the low sec border gate camps of Frulegur is correctly called “ganking”, and those guys are gankers.

Still…it does not excuse the very real griefing that CAN BE either an accidental or intentional aspect of ganking. Its not always there, but the potential is always there. And that’s problematic…thus why I would approve of such a pop up…to curtail griefing while the game carries on.
