I see what happened here. Another common problem on these forums, is that people don’t enter a debate with the same usage of terms.
The term “ganking” in this thread is about suicide ganking in hisec, which is the topic of the OP. If you are talking about a different sec, I think it’s best to explicitly state, that you are no longer talking exclusively about highsec. Otherwise, it just results in these confusions, where you are not really in disagreement, just talking about completely different things.
It’s inferred from the OP, that this thread is about suicide ganking when talking about “ganking”. When terms are not aligned, it just results in confusion and nonexistent conflict. This is how your exchange looked with terms aligned.
@Daichi_Yamato and @Scipio_Artelius might correct me if I’m talking out of my ass and they indeed were talking about ganking outside of highsec.
He never said hisec, and you added the word suicide twice to make his sentence different, though if a super stays there for an extended period then he would commit suicide. As I said, it is totally possible to gank a freighter solo.
What ever anyone means, I know one thing, killing criminals in high sec is good for me, so by default I say yes.
Trouble is ganking is not really a descriptive word like pirate or asshat , for example we have a group of ALTs that are trained for ganking , now admittedly we haven’t used them much but what they do is great for the game , they are intended to gank ganker supporters and hard to get to targets . Hope in the coming weeks these will get more use keep an eye open for them .
So ganking is just really something you can do in this game and the judgement is weather it’s a noble act or down right piracy or skullduggery.
Btw one thing I’ve learned large fleet ganking isn’t as simple as it sounds maybe because out fleets are made up of all individual rather than alt fleets under one or two pilots but practice makes perfect.
In a functional world assets are also liabilities. When accounts were subscription-based, more alts means more costs. Right now things in eve-online are dysfunctional.
Production of all weapon modules should require rare minerals. Legit Alpha players will not mind the increased one-off cost while heavy users of suicide ganking alts will quickly find the costs prohibitively expensive, hopefully restoring some semblance of sanity to highsec.
People refer to it as hisec ganking, this is for a reason, the word gank is used to denote a overwhelming power to take out a single opponent without giving them a chance to fight back. So:
He did not mention hisec, therefore I put him right on the simple fact that you can gank a freighter solo.
What is amusing is that the most important part of my post is ignored for a throw away line.
If hisec ganking has only a suck it and wait to be blown up gameplay for a solo player then it is bad for the game.
