I was excited about that too, until they said today that most of the cooler features are still WIP/someday maybe—including the 2D/Dotlan view, which won’t be in the coming expansion.
Maybe in the Fall expansion… of 2028.
If it is corporation only content, then it cannot be used to scam/gank peoples and it won’t buff gankers in any way either.
How do you figure? Put a freelance job out to mine x amount of minerals in y system, then have your gank fleets lie in wait along the way… Sure, it costs you a small fee - but it’s a pittance if they gank something worthwhile.
Freelance jobs would be pointless if they couldn’t be issued to the general population.
They can only be issued by corporations (since you have to have a rental office in a station), but they can be accepted by everyone subject to some limited restrictions.. From what I remember (they only spoke on this for a few seconds), on release you’ll only be able to limit it to capsuleer age, ie: <1 month, older than a month, older than 4 years, etc.
Not sure why they even bothered with the age restriction. As we all know, a 1-day old toon can easily be a 20 year vet. A 10 year old toon can be a player who only ever played for a few days and didn’t log in again for 10 years. Character age means nothing in EVE.
I don’t know - that was the initial limiter (capsuleer age). As you pointed out, hard to exclude “vets” that masquerade as new Alphas. The only thing you could do is limit jobs to capsuleers over x number of years. I’m sure someone had an idea for excluding by age, but I’m drawing a blank.
Okay then, if this is possible. But why would you do that?
Ganking miners is not profitable activity, only handful of players do that and therefore there is tons of content for those who also want to gank miners. Any highsec around Jita is full of retrievers and macks. And don’t get me started on Orcas, there are so many. It is also very hard to gank these ships after all the buffs they got. And thats even if they don’t abuse the Orca swap mechanic that has no counterplay other thank gank the Orca itself and good luck with that, if it is well tanked.
I can’t imagine anything other than “go shoot other players” that couldn’t be already done by existing mechanics (courier contracts) or even without them. (Your example can be easily setup via chat/discord/forum announcement), And I doubt this new system will include shooting other players.
Not saying it is useless of course, if things like this will be more visible it is great.
We’ll see. i think this feature is all hype and little substance.
a Scram?
I, for one, am krabbing like a loon and skilling up for an Angel’s Dread. Just need Gal Dread V and CMJD V
A few lone-operator Angel Dreads may get away thanks to the CMJD, but, they are still in siege at the end of the teleport: no warping or jumping out until that’s over. Depending on the minutes left, an attacker might race right over and keep tackle on it. (While burning straight at your target might be bad for some subcaps in this case, the number of attackers could still win out. It would be a juicy KM deserving of their effort.)
I don’t even want to know what the Trig Marauder is going to cost. Not a fan of single-target ships anyway. I can’t see myself choosing it over a Paladin for PvE content. Now, if they had released an EDENCOM Marauder, then maybe…
That would’ve been interesting…
My first thought was upgrading my current Nestor/Leshak/Eos krabbing setup to include the trig marauder.
On reflection, I’m not 100% sure it would be worth it. I can already blast through C5 sites with what I have (magnetar damage FTW!). Another advantage of sticking to what I have is when I get jumped, I can MJD anything not tackled by the site out as the sabers land, so at worst, I lose one ship. With Bastion into the mix, I could lose the whole fleet.
That said, I have a corpmate who runs paladins and he’s contemplating switching out two of his pallys for trig marauders.
Need more data before making that decision.
What would it do, however? Have massive application bonus so that their weapons can finally kill stuff without needing a handful of them?
IT is not. CODE, Safety et al have not used more or fewer ships since Surgical Strike nuked resistances. They always bring way more than they need to. WAY more. What is going to nerf is solo hunting in null sec because ships there are already massively overtanked and hard to kill if response efforts are nearby.
This is the way
I mean, is it really even worth adding if it can’t be exploited by scammers, seeing as that is one of EVE’s cornerstones
…to lose players, probably. After today’s livestream I’m convinced it’s no more than a null recruiting tool. So yeah, probably not very exploitable (unless you mean by null-sec).
Legion is shaping up to be a ganking nerf. Higher resistances and Freelance projects sucking potential victims straight to null.
The pickings are going to start to get slim…
i want to mine a highsec ice belt (yuck), but it is full of miners already sucking up “my” ice.
I put a freelance job up to kill them and tell l’gankers to come get paid
just an idea, implementation is key
I doubt it will be doable via this new system. But then again, you can already do this. You just need to contact gankers directly.
But they won’t help you. First, these massive multibox fleets sucking ice either belngs to them, or are well tanked (the more you multibox the less you need to go for yield) so it is too costly to kill them. Also majority of gankers are in caldari space, they really won’t come gank miners into some amarr system. And lastly, only handful of players gank miners. After all these buffs it requires too many characters to kill it in highsec which makes it non-profitable (if it ever was profitable activity to begin with). So most gankers gank haulers or abyssal runners.. And these will not switch to miners even if you pay them well (which I doubt you want to do).
