The big question is does this update also removes the visibility of activity and active / docked up characters in the null-sec system. Would make sense if it did.
Awesome!
I think there is a recording of the meeting (I was there too) and it had both big and small w-space corps present.
All you’re demonstrating here is your own ignorance - there are many answers to this, probably the simplest being a fleet taking sentry duty in turns - you do an hour at a time, then go mine while someone else stands sentry.
Wormhole dwellers do this stuff all the time, it’s not hard…
I’m just here to say… I LOVE YOU GUYS <3 Thanks CCP, Proving once again you guys are breaking the mold.
I still think bringing back mines would balance things perfectly - but then if there’s a “mines in space” tab or something like that, then bots will just spam gates to death with them, constantly check for number of mines… you all know the rest.
For those of you complaining, remember: it’s the bots’ abuse of the present system that brings us to this. I would imagine that those complaining to CCP are the botters. Notice how real players favor the change, and even those who farmed in nullsec but are not botters offer some enhancements and suggestions as well.
As for driving nullsec towards “bigger blocs” - this is apt to be true, but the big bloc is still going to have to toil for their bread. They are actually going to have to work as a team, instead of a network of AFK entities that only show up to blob an intruder. And yes I’m biased. Many times I just wanted to pass through a system but oh look a fleet of supers just because I popped out of a wormhole. Much can be said about “hunting” that will be said, but this is going to be a boon for one other important thing not always related to hunting: Travel. It may actually become possible to travel. Oh yes bubbles will still be possible. Oh yes “hurf blurf we’ll just put bots on the gates!” - now arguing past the sale of actual bot use and showing a sense of entitlement notably - but losing instant intel at least gives us a CHANCE.
CHANCE is also related to “difficulty”. It’s all we really want. The only people who have difficulty who are still motivated about Eve ironically happen to be the gankers, in spite of their constant complaints about getting nerfed. The real kicker here is that CCP also nerfed just about every damned thing else, and that is what has brought the game low. Fellow bittervets can speak of the more difficult days of Eve also being the more vibrant - a golden age practically. What people want is a CHANCE and options for difficulty. It’s supposed to be a game, not some “outlet for neurotic min-maxing” that people bring in from RL.
Remember it’s abuse that brings this about. And that unwritten rule of “we don’t report our own bloc members for botting” is now coming to bite nullsec on the ass. Just as we have warned.
“Staring at rocks for hours is bad” - says the ganktard - “Stare at the gate instead, is good!”.
You’re demanding each alliance to invest 23 manhours per gate in their constellation doing the most fun gameplay ever?
I think it would be good idea to do so as it will make it harder to see activity in system making it harder for campers to find what systems they should camp without having to roam the system. gives pve-er better chance.
And to prove my point.
What presently watches a gate for 23 hours?
Bots.
So here you are, arguing that players will have to watch a gate for 23 hours. What about time zones? Prime time?
Also, does the organization lack entirely in combat capability? Oh I see, bots just dock up. So now you not only post on a cability of watching a gate for 23 hours, which a bot can do, but operating on the notion of no combat capability, furthering point that nullsec is mostly farmers.
Interesting Idea. Perhaps this should lead into a new small structure that links to the fluid router FTL network. Where CONCORD no longer supports NS local. It would be a structure that can be built, anchored, fueled and destroyed.
This device could also be deployed and used in WH space?
Could you set it up to work for blue only?
This.
And if you don’t have your people logged on for whatever real-world reason you can’t roll a hole to defend yourself. Null is NOT WH space.
Null is plenty risky because of Hot-droppers. Dial down the loot maybe ( comments about unsustainable levels of stuff ), but losing Local is just nuts.
I won’t fly during this period. I’ll just go play something else.
I know what CCP wants now. Null smashed up to make it the bad-lands again. And I really hate to say it but the bad-lands are supposed to be Low Sec.
This is a bad strategy. Null players pay big in real world cash, and this won’t help that Income stream.
As I have said if I wanted to join a WH corp I would have.
You know what we do in wormholes about this exact problem? Alt cloaked up on grid with the hole/gate. Zoom in on it… Then background the tab while listening for an activation. You hear one that isn’t called on comms or in the chat? Run or if you’re into pvp decloak that alt in a saber and bubble up!
You just bought your ratter a good chance to get away.
But but that would imply that EVE would’ve had sound that is more important to @Orca_Platypus than his own mindless narcissism.
We have an alt (paid account) sitting at the wormhole while we mine, rat, hack, whatever. This alt is on the same PC as a main account actually doing stuff. The alt is set up so that anything passing through the gate will make a loud noise, but all other noises are suppressed. We are fleeted-up so warnings can be issued immediately the sound happens. The alt doesn’t even need to be visible on the screen, still performs its function perfectly.
Half the problem with the whiners her is they haven’t even tried to think theirway through the new challenges, it’s just an immediate response of “something changed, I’m unsubbing - take that CCP !”
Not a bad idea.
Here again my statement. As long as this is gonna be limited time event, and is sorely needed for lore wise, it feels like acceptable to be honest.
If there are any piece of idea in your mind, that to introduce this for restructing economies or nullsec balancing, this doesn’t feel good so much.
Although you can easily forsee some sorts of PVP content will be encouraged like what’s going on wormholes, this will not necessarily help you to solve ongoing balance problems.
Disclaimer 1 : all the statement below is based on assumption that local blackout last long enough to impact whole game.
Disclaimer 2 : I have no salt about driffters invasion. Totally neutral.
As you know, game balance issues are comming from multiple causes. As it’s pointed in this article, numbers of Bottings comming from outer-null’s geographical factors. ( You can dispute this article though, it sounds enough reasonable )
Rise of super capital online and fall of small gangs, or Inflation of economy are widely said to be originated from flood of skill farming and empire of Rorquals.
These ongoing issues can only be solved by restoring broken parts of game mechanics as you have already started. ( e.g. nerf rorquals as it used to be)
By making local chats blackout, as stated above, PVP may be encouraged. And it’ll give entire game mechanics into the chaos.
However once local is blackout, Nullsecs gonna be a horrible places for PVE / Mining / Production.
People may refer wormhole spaces (a.k.a. J-spaces) for comparison. No. It’s totally in different situation. In this case BOB never smiles at nullseccers.
I had been in wormholes a long time, and am now in nullsec a while.
In J-space you can artifitially collapse wormholes ( means connections to another space ). And you canintentionally make your own space isolated from any other entities.
You never see cyno there. Wormholes allow limited mass passing through as well. These two factors brings you consequence that there are limits of firepower you’d get even if you are assaulted by any chance.
Meanwhile, you say delete local from nullsecs but not the cyno or gates. There are horrible Cyno mechanics in nullsec, and stargates allow infinite mass of ships passing through. It’s gonna be difficult to know whether hostiles forming fleets too. This means, going outside the stations and doing something except PVP while blackout, will promise you a death.
Thus here now you see Nullsec is going to be just downgraded j-spaces.
Unless people being true retards, economic activities will be directly impacted.
People tend to focus on the PVP side, one true is that EVE is a real sand box though. i.e. every single ammunations, drones, ships and weapons, etc, etc, are all generated from players activities.
You have seen countless changes and waves of new eden markets affected by war/politics/conflicts so far.
Again, EVE is sand box. How do you continue PVPing without source of ISK, or even without ships themselves ?
Sandbox has another meaning as well. It’s that EVE allow all the playstyles for all the players as they will, unless breaching EULA.
There are four major areas - HS, LS, NS and WH. People can determine where to go and what to do. This changes potentially force nullseccers to live them downgraded J-spaces instead of NS.
If people wanted to have stuff in no-local environments, they’d already gone there. CCP doesn’t need to enforce it for players already in NS.
I sincerely hope this blackout is ONE TIME EVENT and you’d persuade players with fascinating new story lines.
TLDR: Local black out will encourage sorts of PVP but will directly impact other than that and can potentially ruin the game if it last long.
like i needed one more reason to stick to PVP only?
If people wanted to have stuff in no-local environments, they’d already gone there. CCP doesn’t need to enforce it for players already in NS.
One counter argument I would offer for this is quite a large one. Wormhole space does not offer asset security, and that means any destroyed structure will result in a loss of all stored items. A great many players find that, combined with the scanning mechanisms, the main reason not to head into the space.
No local isn’t the only thing about wormholes that makes them different. Hell it’s the least dangerous thing about them. But please, keep saying it.
Maybe CCP will make them more similar, take away your asset safety, bring in status effects, limit ship mass through gates (let’s make it an hourly limit to be nice)
Then I’ll listen to the “just like WH” argument.
I appreciate this change!
