Local Comms Blackout - Discussion Thread

There is already a system in place. It’s called having scouts. and eyes, with braincells behind them, and ears, with braincells between em. Warm body in chair behind keyboard. Paying attention.

Several people have explained this ad infinitum already and yet you still can’t comprehend that the only people affected are bots and lazy idiots. The groups with any amount of cohesion at all will be fine.

Didn’t Dotlan used to show that?

yeah when the game did. It was a goofup, that was quickly fixed once noticed.

the cloaky camper doesnt move on though yes we had this conversation last night i know you go oh nothing continue most sit in multiple systems with multiple toons and wait to blops on something not move on. the longer they sit and do nothing int he system but have presence the more comfortable people get with it and the shinier the assets to gank get its why they choose to camp vs move on. witch drastically (in this change) tip the scales in their favor regardless if they are known to have entered. not to mention it is unrealistic for systems to have active eyes on every gate every second the game is online so at any time they can come and enter the system and are never known about till they drop 100 guys on a carrier.

All these people saying that all you need is scouts on the gates, rofl, you lot are going to die a lot, that is for certain. Please try to think it through, seriously… And if you did and still came out with that rubbish, then all I can say is wow!!!

Then what is the problem?
DotLAN can’t see anything that the game can’t see.

If you can’t defend your space, you don’t deserve it. Plain and simple.
I find it absolutely damned hilarious that you are so fuckign scared of cloaky campers that you attribute so many things that they can’t or won’t be able to do without local.
If there is no local, they can’t see how many of you are online.

no you need scouts on gates and wormholes and be listening and watching for gate flashes and activations along wsith same on the wormholes and then be quickl enough to link name into intel for the briefe moments they are visible unless they are in a not so agile ship or non cloaky ship. its something i already do with local as hearing and seeing adds saftey when you rat mine or whatever the ■■■■ yoru doing at the time it also adds intel to any pvpers in the area who think i can engage that. but it is that simple just a continueation of the efforts like me. it will not and will greatly tip the scale in favor of cloaky campers though as these guys usually dissapear from site too quickly to get name or ship type and generally have ability to blob you via a cyno. and in this change once they are in and camp in system for days theres no way to know if they are there till they drop 200 bombers on your face.

And no has brought up this little trick. Its hard (for me anyway) to pull off, but you can slap yourself on the back if you ever pulled it off!

Oh I know how much fun it will be as i have been playing for a little while now and have some skills and a pvp toon on the side. However you haven’t thought about the affects of removing local without system owner operated system scanner. Now when gankers and sole pvp roaming toons are creaming over this it’s obvious that it opens up a huge advantage over low skill players and small corps.
Get rid of local, don’t care, but the system owner should have the ability to deploy a system scanner that relays information to whomever they like instead of everyone in system. A setup like that would still be effective for defensive purposes and give an incentive for people to start flying cloaky to stay off at scanners and to stage hit and runs on PVE players. The VLY would be the best travel ship at that point.

Its clear you are a pvp player to the core . its not the only aspect to the game and the game play for other than pvp will be reduced. You realy do have to allow for others to have an opinion.

And then we’re back to sprawling empires that span a dozen regions, instead of the most of the Imperium being in Delve, and most of PanFam being in (now) Malpais. They pushed us toward population density for a reason. Hopefully, the local blackout will make running rental empires much, much harder, so the people who want to live in places need to actually defend those places.

Its seriously only thing people will have to do.
Put
scouts

It really is that simple. We do it in wormholes all ■■■■■■■ day, every day, without fail.
We get seeded (camped), we continue on and mine/rat/kill ■■■■. We don’t get asset safety, so if we lose ■■■■ its for good. We get popped and podded, we have to find our way back home.

Quit being a lazy damned moron. Harden the ■■■■ up. Protect your space and quit relying on a broken mechanic that only rewards the lazy and the abusers (botters, RMTards, people with 20+ rorqs).

How many botters in Jspace? Likely none. Because no local = no easily scripted thing to monitor and then warp off to safe. (If CCP has any hard numbers to refute this please chime in).

Protect your space. Or lose it.
That is EvE Online.

Yes It did. Until it was correctly balanced.

see you are using words like moron again … this thread needs a moderator. THERE ARE OTHER VIEW POINTS.

Perhaps they need a structure in space to post.
Sorry. Couldn’t help it.

CCP was to over the barrel by the nulsec mega corps, the new owners have the balls to no listen to the treats from those nulsec corps and do what many wanted CCP to do years ago.

Ok, first? Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly.

Next, learn to break up your flow-of-consciousness into coherent, non-run-on sentences. It will help you communicate in a more credible way. Now, on to your points…

Scouts on gates will be useful. Having proper support will be useful. Watching d-scan will be useful. Listening for warp-ins will be marginally useful, but not really. Cloaky campers will not be much more of an issue than they are now. Most cloaky campers are just not that organized. The organized groups… those will be more effective. But that will just mean people get pushed toward flying bigger things, so the cloaky is only a cyno for the dreadbomb. Which is fine, because everyone loves murdering dreads.

But I’m not. My corp makes fun of me 'cause I’m the “King Krab”. I also do PI and industry. And a side job with a hauling toon.
Don’t assume too much.

However i will say that at the core, yeah, I’m a PvP character. That is what EvE is about, or there would be real “safe areas” in the game – however, there are not. There is punishment for being a criminal in highsec, but there is no prevention. That states a lot about the design of the game as a PvP game.

Rule #1 in EvE – if you undock it, be prepared to replace it.

I’m saying that the in game map and dotlan provided free intel.
You keep harping on about scouts being active and actually playing the game.
When local disappears (and I hope it goes forever) it should encourage people to actually play the game and gather their own intel and not simply get it for free out of either the map or a 3rd party app.
So essentially we are saying the same thing about real players not being lazy and making an effort to provide there own safety.
