Local Comms Blackout - Discussion Thread

That was only for the weekend.

For example: you can go check Esoteria (the region I’m currently living in right now) to check the activity values. http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Esoteria#npc24

You keep ‘quoting’ stuff without detailing your sources. Cynics might just think you’re making stuff up…

Now check that same Esoteria but specifically select “NPC Kills(24h)” and “Today” (July 17) for a day. I think thats just a quirk of Dotlan where if the day is incomplete it’ll show zeroes for everything, but if you have just opened a region it properly shows kills in last 24 hours (because no specific date is selected).

Others have made similar observations:

It seems impossible that all ratting in a region could be bot-run. I really think that nobody wants to risk their expensive carriers or battleships, meaning regular players as well as botters.

So you think that all those kills were by bots? I can tell you now that I can easly spend 4,5,6+ hours ratting while paying full attention to the game… now I have never counted but I would say a low number is that I would kill 800-1k ships by my self in that time. Now lets say there are 10 other people rattinng in are home system that day, that number could be 6k, 7k ships no problem. blackout hits but we don’t like it so we don’t go ratting simple.

why don’t we like it? well null sec is safe because we have intel chat, there for we made it safe, we don’t have an umbrella but we like to chase ships that show up in intel. we cant do that any more so are pvp is less also now, so whats the point of us logging in?

I like eve so I want to play it still hence im back in high sec semi afk mining and scanning… its super easy isk/ore with crazy little risk but boring as fk as there is no pvp… so will see how long the game can keep my intrest :[

where is this screenshot from?

shows there is some activity, far less then before. but thats as expected since krabs have either not adapted yet, gave up already like lots of the crybabies here and yes, bots.

EDIT: same for esoteria btw, test seem to have adjusted far better

To CCP ,

If you would like to do “login” statistics , please stop cheating the login numbers with discounts and login bonuses during the blackout , thanks

I may say To Pearl Abyss , I am confused now.

I think with the offer they want to see how serious people are about canceled subscriptions.

There should be no Offers during blackout at all.

Me and my buds aren’t bots and we haven’t logged in. I dare CCP to scrutinize everything about me to confirm I’m not botting, my gameplay pattern is 100% human, and I don’t have any secret bot farms either.
My knowledge about bots comes from having 1 year of experience in automated gameplay testing department of a big (24+ games at the time) online game publisher company. It had internal automation engine, complete with OCR, so our scripts could actually “read” and react based on chat commands without needing to copypaste or read memory. Thus I know bot capabilities really well, and don’t have naive opinion that this change would hurt them anywhere close to how it hurt the real players.

It seems to be delayed or something is broken on dotlan side, because it does show some kills for me (still don’t believe this is a complete data, but there’s some data)

The part you’re missing is that it should be dangerous for everyone, and it’s been made completely safe for you like it was never safe for me.

We call them wormchickens, and they have a safe space to live that they can totally isolate and enjoy near-complete safety in.

The problem is people always say they don’t want changes. Then they cancel their subscription only to renew it shortly before the expiration of Omega again.

My guess is that many players have cancelled their subscription with the reason of blackout.
CCP now needs reliable data that shows how serious people are about cancelling.

If many have good responded to the offer, the blackout will certainly last longer than if only a few people responded to it.

Quite naturally, umbrella supers are not as affected as the rest of us.

Subcapital life is eradicated completely, and normal capitals can operate only in space either under umbrella with FAX on call, or out of supercap gankers range (my space being neither, we are being supercap-dropped every so often, and you don’t see me complaining about that, remember I do agree nullsec should be dangerous… for everyone, that is, no safe space for ganktards).

In other news, CCP is ready to release a new update to rename “null sec” to “none space” however it has met noticeable resistance from the community that would prefer to be renamed to “frogs and crickets space”

looks like in 2 months that my yearly subscription expires I will be moving back to high sec as an alpha. The only thing that is currently keeping me in null sec is PI. I suspect the massive drops we have seen in the activity of null sec it will be nothing compared to the numbers we will see when long and short term subscriptions expire.

The good news is that as an alpha I wont need massive amounts of ISK that null can make compared to high sec. I wont be able to use as an alpha many of my expensive fits and I won’t need to being in high sec.

Reminding you that along with cancelling, many of us paused our subscription - meaning we went alpha immediately, smarter people like me before it even started, “we’ll see how it plays out” crowd has done so on sunday presumably. Some unsubbed but refused to pause to keep training skills, and these people will likely react to offer… but would not undock anyway, contributing nothing to the activity.

Result is what we all can see: a slight increase on pvp graph (more ganktards getting ganktarded by each other? No solid data beyond one stat point), and a back-to-2006 drop on PCU, enough to visibly change the shape of a daily routine curve that was unchanged for a decade.

I feel like maybe we have some kind of language barrier thing going on here.

Here’s where you’re getting messed up: Nobody in the thread said he did it in support “against” the blackout.

When you’re looking at dotlan by date like that, it won’t show stats for “today” as far as I can tell.

There were definitely NPC kills in PB on the 16th.

However…

It absolutely did drop off precipitously. The entire region hasn’t produce as many NPC kills since the start of the blackout as some single systems were producing in one day.

Still loving it!
Can almost float like the Dead Sea there’s so much salt in this ocean of null-bear tears!

Adapt now, 'cause you’ll be well behind when it goes permanent!
