Those rewards are a dark pattern, meant to manipulate you into logging in every day. This makes ‘logging in’ a habit and improves the player counts, which looks good to shareholders. This is why many online games make use of such tricks.
Handing you all those rewards without logging in defeats the purpose of these rewards. It removes the reason those rewards exist.
If you ask me the best solution is if CCP removes all those rewards. I don’t like these and all the other cheap manipulative dark patterns in games and think games would be a lot more fun if devs encouraged players to log in with just good gameplay instead.
Personally I think the ‘Log-In Rewards’ should only be available to collect after a character from each account actually logs into the game…
Those items would still be entered into the Redeem list, the only difference is the player would either wait until next log-in to distribute rewards to their other characters on that account or just immediately log-out and re-log back to the character selection screen to distribute the rewards..
Yeah, it’s a few extra steps but it definitely insures the player is actually logging into the game and not just into the character selection screen..
As it is now, players don’t have to actually log their accounts into the game to collect rewards, just open up character selection screen on each account, click collect rewards, distribute rewards to characters, close character selection screen, rinse and repeat on each account… Not even 5 minutes of time spent on each account to complete that…
I do that for most of my Alpha accounts… However whenever SP’s are redeemed, I’ll immediately log a character into the game to apply those points… Most of the time I’ll wait till the end of the Event Log-in reward cycle before actually logging in characters from each account into the game, mainly it’s to contract all rewards to my main character..
However this past expansion was a bit different due to the Mining Arc… I logged in about half of my Alpha characters to run that arc and get a free Pioneer Mining Destroyer…
Anyway, I digress from the topic…
So yeah, I think Event Log-in Rewards should only be available and collected after logging a character from each account into the actual game, not from just opening the character selection screen…
Right but the US is 1 country that has this holiday while all of the others don’t, you’re outnumbered and amount of mental gymnastics will change that america is not and never will be the most important country in any given room at any given time when it comes to EVE
I’m not offended, nor am I bickering – merely pointing out the actual state of affairs over what you imagine them to be.
And for the record, Omega does more than remove alpha restrictions. It provides additional incentives, like extra rewards. Also, Alpha is the new basic. But I digress.
Also no.
In terms of the actual gameplay, Omega status lifts the restrictions on Alpha accounts – what you see as “additional incentives” (dual login tracks, 10x EverMarks etc) are marketing fluff/social engineering to get FOMO sufferers logging in daily. Are some of them advantageous? Yep – but they’re not gameplay essentials; if you skip them, it’s not a tangible loss.
As for Alpha as the new basic? Not even close, Alpha status is nothing more than an unlimited trial with mechanical restrictions on which parts of the game are available, unless you hand over some money to CCP or grind isk to get Omega status.
You’re in your feelings. But facts don’t care about your feelings.
Alpha is the new basic, the default mode of EVE. It’s not a trial run. And that is an objective empirical fact. A trial, by definition, would involve full access to everything (i.e. Omega) to try it out. Times have changed. Deal with it, old man. Yes, Omegas is the way to fully experience Eve and now you have to pay a premium for the full experience. Just like if I buy a car with the most basic default package. It’s not going to be the full range of options. You only get the “full experience” with the most expensive premium package.
What I stated doesn’t just apply to this particular holiday. Thanksgiving just happens to be the one I know of overlapping with the latest event.
Nice try though. There is a reason you forgo directly quoting me because you fully understood you were strawmanning when you wrote that reply. Oh, and the “U.S. hate” red herrings are a nice touch too.
Right and most other holidays are also mostly down to specific countries, CCP isn’t going to avoid putting out an invent just because it clashes with a random holiday somewhere, the beatings will continue until morale improves
