Make Battleships Great Again

Whats wrong with caps are 2 things. Their price and balance vs ships below them.

As you stated the economy needs to be fixed, the costs of caps need to be adjusted to the current ISK flow and bots. That would help with proliferation and overall powercreep.

2nd is balance. Currently we have many frig fits that can take out destroyers and cruisers, often requiring 2-3 ships, but perfectly doable, sometimes depending on fits and counterplay, you can even solo a cruiser in a frig, though not often. We most definetly can solo BCs in cruisers, though it becomes much tougher sometimes.

Cruisers can easily take out battleships. For example, I top out around 100k+ EHP with 1400-1500ish DPS on a Rattlesnake, but thats not often the case as I need to plug in some utility etc, thus lowering eitehr tank or DPS. On most battleships you can get a comfortable 900-1100ish DPS + 110-120k ish EHP with 2 utility slots left over somewhere for whatever. Meanwhile, I get almost 1k DPS with almost 50k EHP with a small sig and mad mobility on a Gila. And don’t even get me started on rediculous stuff liek Loki, 900ish DPS with stupid easy achievable 70-80k EHP with mobility + small sig.

The cruiser tank surpasses BS tank due to sig. The DPS is just barely, and I do mean barely under BS DPS.

So to me, a cruiser seems like around a 3/4 of a Battleship with the mobility being teh trade off. So why can’t a Battleship be 3/4 of a carrier ? After all its same tier difference between carriers and battleships like the one between battleship and cruiser.

How many average, relatively decent flown battlehips, do you need to kill 1 average, relatively decent operated carrier ?

How many average decent cruisers do you need to kill 1 average decent battleship ?

See the disparity there ? That is the problem with caps.

Drednoughts should be to battleships what battlecruisers are to cruisers, carriers should be to battleships what battleships are to cruisers.

The scale jumps way off.

So yea, either nerf the crap out of caps, and make them super expensive to get and maintain, or bump the rest of the game, battleships included.

So you are against letting people roam too far with their shinier toys and then complain endlessly about getting hot dropped? Because that is what is going to happen if somebody puts together a BS roam. It gets within “x” systems of a cap staging point and its going to be blown to pieces by a cap drop. Which will pull a lot of additional resources out of stockpiles than just yet another destroyer or cruiser roam getting blown to pieces.

The power difference between caps and battleships is still so exceedingly high the end result is exactly the same. Hot drop by caps wiping the roam. It can’t be power creep when its hard blocked exactly the same as other roams. The power creep is the genie that was let out of the bag with cap and super cap proliferation being so out of control for jump capable ships that can bypass jump gates and had to have a secondary control put in place via fatigue because they are so stupidly powerful as force projection.

You can’t see the forest for the trees you are staring so hard at with your complaints. Also, home field advantage being allowed to reship lightning fast and pick fights when and where they want them… good luck making a case of the battleships being “unstoppable” if a corp decides to bomb the ■■■■ out of them. They have nice big fat signatures, a hard time just warping out on a dime, and a cooldown on MJDs, let alone what happens when a BS group gets caught in some bubbles by hero dictors letting smaller faster ships dictate the fight.

I see the disparity. I don’t have a problem with it. I want capships to be big, bad monstrosities. I want them to strike fear in the hearts of men. I want them to be endgame ships that people aspire to.

Check the Chinese server for end game to aspire to …

Then roam with them as is.
BS already hugely outclass smaller ships in ehp/dps.

Why?
How?

I could still get behind a little bit more Cargo Bay for Battleships. Even after the update.

Battleship cargo bay was increased by 25% in the recent patch. Lock range was also buffed by 20%.

Sorry, do you mean even more?

Both fine changes.
Cargo was stupidly restrictive for such a large ship.
Lock range was too short for “Battleships”, with large weapons.

The speed/agility/AU/align issue though, no.
Its the only Achilles Heel of BS.

If this is changed, BS will supplant and negate BC/Cruiser roams and system defense.

Yes, I had hoped for +50%. Or +33% at least. Those cap boosters and ammo take a lot of space. To bring different type of ammo in large amounts would be great to.

Bring along a Hoarder to resupply ammo.

You said it wasn’t viable. Obviously I was trying to state that there was nothing wrong with the concept of VIABLE battleship roams.

So? Everything outclasses something in terms of something. Industrials and freighters outclass things in terms of hauling capacity. Frigs outclass things in terms of speed, maneuverability, price tag, signature radius, etc.

I did not.

The gap in ehp/dps between BS and BC/Cruisers is huge.

We do sometimes. But that can’t be the solution.

How is that supposed to work, exactly? Maybe he parks a Hoarder in space next to his BS, and when his BS gets low on ammo, he ejects his pod out of his BS, enters the Hoarder, ejects ammo, ejects pod again, enters BS, grabs ammo…

Can you even eject while you are targeted with weapons, or while you have a weapons (or other) timer?

You coudn’t have been serious. 1/10.

Bringing supply ships is an option and we use them sometimes. Someone has to pilot them with an alt or a newby gets the honor. When I read “Battleship PVP” I think of at least a small gang, not a solo roamer.

Any somewhat comptent player would shout the neutral horder ASAP.

A single Hoarder, alone, can carry enormous amounts of ammo.

Thats what it is there for.

Use it.

So?

I was referring to his proposal not being viable, not to BS roams not being viable.
I was unclear there.

The Hoarder can bounce/remain safe by many means.
It doesnt need to be there in the battle, and otherwise is defended by your BS fleet anyways.
